wtf is it about ?! We caught an episode before DSD this morning , kids are really too old for CBeebies so it has (fortuitously) passed us by until now. What planet (or drugs) are the "writers" on ? It is curiously hypnotic though ....

OP posts:
Loobeeloo · 26/07/2007 22:40

I knitted Iggle Piggle for my ds

Barcelonababe · 26/07/2007 22:42

i love it, my dh loves it, my dd (13 months loves it) my mum loves it, my cleaner loves it, my friends love it..... i love it

Loobeeloo · 26/07/2007 22:44

You have a CLEANER?!

Beauregard · 26/07/2007 22:49

dd2(18 months) loves the programme ,she has started 'singing'to the tune now and holds her hand out at the beginning of the programme for me to draw a circle in her palm.

madamez · 26/07/2007 23:19

My DS loves it and spent most of our wander round Morden Hall this afternoon going Woo! Upsy Daisy! to the twigs he threw in the river. I find it quite soothing as well. Even if I do think all the characters are, like, a bit pervy. Oh and of course DS loves the Pinky Ponk and shouts gaily "It's farting, mummy! It's farting!" every time it appears.

Highlander · 29/07/2007 20:04

I thought the Ponty Pines were called Concubines (was in kitchen at time). A very bizarre, but addicitive programme and I hate CBeebies

growingbagpuss · 31/07/2007 11:08

haHoos - not haboos - we got this wrong on the first episode, and now DS won't call them HaHoos (its the "sound" they make...)

DS loves it... it drives DH and I mad - primarily because of the lack of continuity in perspective (i.e the size of things - not v good at explaining myself) - the ninky Nonk is a pull along train -so how the hell do they all get in it?

DS knows everyone, and he talks about mucky patches on his face and needing Makka Pakka to clean them off -quite cute really!

Fortnately we rarely watch any other TV (CBeebies) so I've escaped Granny Murray - I've seen it once or twice and can't quite work out if these are real children who have to contend with her as their childminder plus tv cameras etc - or what.... but TBH I think she looks fairly normal compared to the "parents"

JeremyVile · 31/07/2007 11:10

Went and had a splurge on the night garden toys in ToyRUs yesterday.

I was disproportionately excited by this

SueBaroo · 31/07/2007 11:14

I have serious trouble watching it now.

I keep hearing Derek Jacobi saying "Hello Iggle Piggle, I am the master.." or "I turned into John Simm, isn't that a pip!"

growingbagpuss · 31/07/2007 11:17

Jeremyvile - were the toys any good? I had a peek on the Bcc website, but held off for fear of joining the Teletubbies race....

Will I permanently harm my DS if I buy him a Makka Pakka?

TootyFrooty · 31/07/2007 11:18

I bought my dses a makka pakka and iggle piggle each at the weekend. They love the programme. Ds1 tells me that Derek is his best friend now. Ds2 just squeals with delight the whole way through and he generally doesn't get tv yet.

Granny Murray is the devil.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 31/07/2007 11:21

I love it and so does DS - it's the only TV programme that will keep him quiet for any length of time. The music is just lovely and Iggle Piggle is fab. Makes me laugh to think of Derek Jacobi as a young man deciding to be an actor never envisaging that one day he would be singing the Makka Pakka song.

Lolly68 · 31/07/2007 11:25

I also love it and so does DD who is 18 months. She loves Macca Pacca. I must say though after watching the same episode one 5 times in a row most evenings I may not love it soon!

JeremyVile · 31/07/2007 11:25

I'd say yes GBP.

I (and of course DS) think they're great, but we may be biased as we really love the show.

We got the NinkyNonk train, which is really cute, good size.

Also the pack of figures which are great cos theyre not plastic, more a very sturdy rubber material.

Also got the mini plushes of IgglePiggle, UpsyDaisy and MakkaPakka, they are cute and a nice size.

We wanted the big IgglePiggle with songs and games but apparently it has been put back til mid august, not sure why.

So, yes i think they're pretty decent, not as cheap looking as alot of TV merchandise stuff can be.

lucykate · 31/07/2007 11:25

i have warmed to this programme, hated it at first, and although i still think it is very weird and the result of smoking pot, little ones love it.

after all, it is aimed at children, not adults, their minds work differently.

MegaLegs · 31/07/2007 11:26

It is the first (and so far the only)programme that DS4 will sit and watch. The theme tune is lovely and the welling string bit at the end always gets me .

I love watching DS4, watching it, he love the tombleeboos the best and the pontypines house looks like ours.

edam · 31/07/2007 11:29

I love the music, beautiful and hypnotic. And think it's very clever - they've done all sorts of research on child development, I suspect.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 31/07/2007 11:35

I ordered the plush singing Iggle Piggle from the BBC and wondered if I'd just got it wrong when I checked and it now said mid-August as I had been expecting to receive it last week. Thanks JV for clarifying.

NattyThomasandEllen · 01/08/2007 20:21

this program has been a life saver for me.. really has helped DS settle for bed.
i also bought iggle piggle and upsy daisy for him and he takes both to bed, tucked them in and says "buh bye" before laying down to go sleep (he is 15 months old!)
i love this program it is the only one he actually watches.. but the dvds not out till NOVEMBER!! so if late back from a day out its is hard to get him to bed, he points at tv an=d crys. really need a dvd!

the singing iggle piggle is in argos now if ur interested JV... unless thats another one..

mustrunmore · 01/08/2007 20:26

Well, its much better than teletubbies, despite being in the same genre. After a while, you tend to block out the ridiculous bits, and you see that it is quite nice. I've even found myeslf debating which character I'd rather be, and if i'd rather live like Macca Pacca or the tombliboos. And it is a lovely theme tune/opening credits.

Beauregard · 01/08/2007 20:35

We love it.
I bought dd2 iggle piggle the other day and she was soooooo excited.
She watched it tonight and kept pointing to her iggle piggle.
The way she dances to the little songs is gorgeous.
Dp went a bit far though when he downloaded the songs to our mobiles

morgansauntie · 01/08/2007 21:00

I think its a brilliant and enchanting programme which I only discovered a few weeks ago saying that i don't have children

My youngest niece came to visit (she's 3) and we went onto the Cbeebies website and In the night Garden was the first thing she wanted to look at - after a few minutes she wanted to go onto something else as toddlers do but I'm saying to her 'whose this and this' and to my mum 'whens this on, how come you didn't tell me about it' - sad or what. I've been looking at the toys on the BBC website for the little one and her sister I'm very tempted but will I be able to hand them over?

choufleur · 01/08/2007 21:12

can't get the bl**dy iggle piggle song out of my head though 'yes my name is iggly piggle, iggle piggle iggle piggle ....' aahhhhhh

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 02/08/2007 10:15

If you look on the BBC the DVDs are out in September. I've ordered mine from there, although I've also Sky+ it so have them all anyway.

growingbagpuss · 02/08/2007 16:25

oooh I'm the same with the song!! once it is in your head, it is very addicitve..

Have you noticed the similarity in the names to things we often say to our DC'S?

Upsy daisy - oops a daisy
Iggle piggle - little pickle
Makka Pakka - mucky pup

haven't thougt about the others... or is it just me?
