I'm not holding Yewande to different standards - don't be so patronising. Molly Mae directed no anger at Maura. She said repeatedly to Maura 'this isn't your fault'

TatianaLarina · 22/06/2019 12:19

I see Yewande held to exactly the same standard as everyone else. She was being a pia. So was Amy.

There are undoubtedly issues around race on LI, but this is not one of them.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:20

Quite, @TatianaLarina

Proteinshakesandtears · 22/06/2019 12:20

Jimjamjooney you are missing the point.

My point is that you can assume people are being biased without knowing it. Some people may be.

But you have no idea if that's true. Because you dont know individual posters.

I have name changed twice in the time Love island has been on, because my bat shit sil like to stalk me on here.

Bias may be part of it. But its may. Not definitly. And its arrogance to say anyone who claims it isnt, just doesnt understand.

Also if you claim the group of people that share an opinion because of a racial bias. I will defend myself.

I dont think it was you that said that I am talking I general

HighsandLows77 · 22/06/2019 12:21

As a black women I definitely think that Yewande is being held to a different standard compared to Molly-Mae.

Molly-Mae stood and was shouting at Tommy about Maura being a ring girl and it’s classed as having a tantrum. Yewande tells the girls she’s fuming and she’s being called a nasty character.

Proteinshakesandtears · 22/06/2019 12:22

There are undoubtedly issues around race on LI, but this is not one of them.

I agree with this.

I really expected them to out more women in from different racial backgrounds, this year.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:24

Yewande said she was about to go crazy.

At the beginning of the show she seemed incredibly mild mannered. It is her actions and not her face which have made people think differently.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:24

Race not face obvs

Proteinshakesandtears · 22/06/2019 12:26

I dont think Yewande was aggressive for, simply, telling the girls she was fuming.

It was her tone and demeanour. And the 'I feel the crazy coming out' comment.

You can say you are fuming and it not be aggressive. I actually became concerned for her last night, incase she gets dumped. I dont think she can handle it. But how she came across, to me was aggressive.

TatianaLarina · 22/06/2019 12:28

In fact MM was described as being aggressive too.

I don’t think Y is being more aggressive than MM, they both were.

Yewande is not coming across as a particularly nice person, but that’s not specific to her saying she was ‘fuming’ - rather it’s over a much longer period. I don’t like her manipulation of Danny, her gauche possessiveness or her petulance. Samira from last year, by contrast, was great.

Whisky2014 · 22/06/2019 12:28

Yep exactly, unless you know posters have made comments about 1 person and then about yewande you are actually lumping everyone together and tarring with the same brush. When people called amy a bitch I actually said we shouldn't be calling anyone names etc and was accused of putting a serious tone in the thread!

Even for Sunday night's episode it seems like yewande is being nasty to Danny like putting it all back on him, her line of questioning etc. It's just not nice.

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:29

So Danny is very good friends with Arabella and Lucies ex boyfriend.
Who is Charlie the one no one remembers from last year.

No wonder Arabella has clicked with him.
She already knows him.

Also regarding the staged chats.
Youd think a bunch of good looking 20 somethings would be able to flirt and get it on and argue without the bloody producers constant interference.
I know if prefer watching that show.
But cos it's subtle and random it's not good enough for the teens. God sake

TatianaLarina · 22/06/2019 12:30

If anything I cut Yewande more slack because I think it’s tougher being a black contestant. I used to like her but I’m disappointed.

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:30

How they think awful awkward filmed many times chats are better than natural goings on I'll never know.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 22/06/2019 12:31

I agree @HighsandLows77, she's definitely being held to a higher standard but whether that's because of race or because MM is the kind of extremely pretty girl that people always excuse/downplay her actions, I'm not sure. I think Amy is also being held to a higher standard than MM & I think it's because of how pretty MM is compared to Amy (or Maura - she's so pretty that her actions / aggression/ 2-faced-ness are excused.)

Anyway, I didn't see Yewande as aggressive at all and neither did those in the Villa or we'd have seen them commenting on that in the diary room (or whatever it's called on LI).

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:34

And I'm also annoyed with 3 episodes just of D A and Y mainly.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 22/06/2019 12:35

I agree with that too @unique1986

Proteinshakesandtears · 22/06/2019 12:37

Anyway, I didn't see Yewande as aggressive at all and neither did those in the Villa or we'd have seen them commenting on that in the diary room

Unseen bits is on tonight. And it happened at the end of the episode. Theres possibly going to be more shown. Or maybe LI producers have decided not to show it.

We saw amber moaning that she couldnt take it if she went back to being like she was before and no one challenged that. So I think she is seen as a bit of a negative person.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:37

See, Molly Mae shouted and swore but my feeling was she was more upset than anything. Whereas Yewande seemed angry from a more territorial point of view. She thinks nobody is allowed to get to know Danny because she's decided he belongs to her. I remember MM saying to Maura 'now he decides'

I guess we'll see if Yewande calms down and realises she's not really being reasonable.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:42

At the beginning of the show I thought Amy was really pretty. Her personality has turned me off her. However, I also feel a bit sorry for her because she's obviously very insecure and has issues. I do think that she's going to have a tough time when she leaves LI.

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:46

Amy must be quite confident to do the job she does even if she has insecurities about her looks.
She's very old school. Bet she wanted to marry a pilot.

MoominMantra · 22/06/2019 12:46

Confidence can be a facade though can't it?

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:51

But if she was not a people person or girly there's no way she would have been interested in being a flight attendant.
It's quite sexist. Some of them have to be a certain look and figure to get the job.

unique1986 · 22/06/2019 12:52

She's deffo got issues tho. As do most people these days.

SlipperOrchid · 22/06/2019 12:56

It was her tone and demeanour. And the 'I feel the crazy coming out' comment

This!
