So worried for Emily.

TheFirstOHN · 16/06/2019 21:35

Out of the women who are post-menopausal (or known to be non-fertile for another reason) how do they decide which become Aunts rather than Marthas? Is there a pyschometric test?

TheLoneWolfDies · 16/06/2019 21:39

It was said by one of the marthas either in the show or in the book I cant remember 'thank god I could cook' so I think thats the basis of it.. I could be wrong though.

TheLoneWolfDies · 16/06/2019 21:39

Actually I think Rita said it

hopeishere · 16/06/2019 21:42

Is she dead?!

TheLoneWolfDies · 16/06/2019 21:42

Nevermind a quick google says its based on class. So Aunts are some of the highest class of women (obviously unmarried) and marthas are lowest class like econowives etc.

HigaDequasLuoff · 16/06/2019 21:44

Think so yes.

mizu · 16/06/2019 21:46

Can't work Commander Lawrence out at all.

Roussette · 16/06/2019 21:47

Nor me. I can only imagine that, as one of the architects of Gilead, he gets occasional flashes of guilt and helps the resistance. Then hardens up

Berrys245 · 16/06/2019 21:51

I think commander Lawrence is being cautious to protect his wife. Aunt Lydia’s comment about “what’s wrong with her” suggests that Gilead would not be sympathetic to her

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 16/06/2019 21:53

So Cora is from the book, I wondered why they hadn't bothered with her in the first series, her butter tip is from there too

IcedPurple · 16/06/2019 21:53

Yes, I think Lawrence's wife is going to turn out to be quite significant.

Crinkle77 · 16/06/2019 21:55

He is also probably worried about ending up in the wall. That's why He was saying that we don't know who she is cos she could potentially grass then up then they would all end up dead.

Bringonspring · 16/06/2019 21:55

Quite a slow episode this week in comparison so last week!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/06/2019 21:55

Zig I thought that too - didn't June hide it from her dinner and use on her face.

Luke really felt like a spare part at dinner I think, having no F-ing clue what they'd been through

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/06/2019 21:58

Can someone remind me how Luke escaped again?

mrsshelby444 · 16/06/2019 21:58

So are the waterfords done now then? Where have they gone?

Berrys245 · 16/06/2019 22:01

Would Handmaid’s really not be allowed glasses?? That may be the worst thing! I’m so short sighted 🤓

MyGastIsFlabbered · 16/06/2019 22:03

Oh, maybe I'm not so worried for Emily now.

FrankiesKnuckle · 16/06/2019 22:03

They're not allowed to read, so no glasses.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 16/06/2019 22:05

Grin she called her!!! Yay 💗

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 16/06/2019 22:05

I'm so pleased she phoned her wife. Really hope they do get their happily ever after.

Glad it looked like Luke is going to step up for Nicole. He appears to have survivors guilt to me, especially re Hannah. I really feel for him too.

Tinkhasflown · 16/06/2019 22:05

I agree @IcedPurple I think Mrs Lawrence will be very significant too.

How did Emily have the phone number for her wife?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/06/2019 22:05

Agree a slow episode but I loved the ending, so happy for Emily!

MrsShelby (ace username btw!) I definitely don't think we've seen the end of them.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 16/06/2019 22:05

Me too Berry. I'd be a bloody liability as a hand maid.
