That's great about DS, well done to him. DH has a summer holiday birthday and said it was crap growing up as everyone was away. Meanwhile in the winter we have mine and both the DCs all soon after Christmas with mine being last and everyone is tired of celebrating by then.

Raahh · 16/08/2019 09:42

Thank you Dogs , we are hoping it will give him something to focus on at least. (Gets him out of bedGrin).

Expletive it's an odd time to have a birthday, between Christmas and New Year. Ds was the best birthday present though, the year I had him Grin. I don't tend to bother doing much. We try to go out for a meal- and we are rubbish at it. Last couple of times, I've been in bed before 9.30 Grin. (Asleep, I might add!).

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2019 10:51

I could go in and embarrass him for you Grin
I could be THAT awful customer
In fact I'm heading over your way over the weekend Grin
Congratulations 🎉 little Raahh on getting a job

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 16:57

You could go in and use the touchscreens to order some very bizarre customised burgers. When I take the DCs we have a giggle wondering what they'd do if you ordered a burger with no patty and no bun.

Raahh · 16/08/2019 17:06

Red Grin.
We've just been to see Tot story 4, as it's dd1s birthday. I felt a bit guilty having Nandos whilst we works ( don't know why, he goes out with his mates all the time!).
His shift should be finished about now, so I'm hoping the first day ( fire safety training!) Went well.

Raahh · 16/08/2019 17:09

expletive dd1 is convinced you can order just a slice of cheese, by removing all the options for a cheeseburger on the touch screen . Not that she's tried it. Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2019 17:40

Oh so I could order just a slice of gerkin
This could be fun
I've never been banned from McDonald's yet

Raahh · 16/08/2019 18:05

Red we had a lengthy discussion yesterday, about the advert where the bloke goes to a McDonald's and buys just a lot of gherkins for his pregnant wife.
I'm really sure you can't drive up and ask for just a box of gherkins.

Plus, you can get a jar full from Aldi for probably a fraction of the price.

Grin we might have been over thinking it a bit...

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 18:12

They'd still be asking if you wanted to go large with it.

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2019 18:29

Raahh my oldest son is currently working his last shift at McDonalds as I type. He started there in sixth form, worked weekends and holidays while he was at university and since graduating has taken a year off from education and has worked full time (with a proper contract). He starts his PGCE in two weeks so that's why he's leaving.
The restaurant he's worked at have been very good employers.

My younger son was at a different restaurant and it was a totally different story there! He only stuck it for six months as he wasn't getting many shifts, and when he was they were then cancelled at the last minute. He's since got a job at a supermarket and he's now got me a discount card, bless him Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2019 18:29

I must have missed that advert, but I do have a jar of gerkins Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 18:39

I have a jar of Ikea gherkins and they are very nice. Did you see that AMA from someone who worked in McDonalds a few months ago? It went on for several hundred posts and was oddly fascinating still not sure it wasn't a plant from McD HQ it was so glowing

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 18:39

This thread is so random....

Love it Smile

Raahh · 16/08/2019 18:49

Madison I'm going to keep an eye on how he gets on. I think things do vary from branch to branch. At the moment, I'm just glad he's finally found something to get him out of bed.

Even if he is just motivated by the thought of the cash, it's a start.

And yes, the thread is very randomGrin.

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2019 19:38

Cash is a great get out of bed motivator, Raahh

Yes, it totally depends on the management I think. My oldest did a brief stint at the branch where his brother had worked to cover a staff shortage and he said that there's no way he could work there permanently.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2019 20:13

If there was an award for the most random thread on MN I'm sure this would win

Raahh · 16/08/2019 20:50

Now, that's a timely thread, Expletive Grin

Funnily enough, a few years before he came back to the UK, my Bil ran a McDonalds franchise in the US (DH and Bil grew up there til their parent's divorce, American dad).

Ds likes the fact he gets a food allowance - but a lot of people have said that you get fed up with McDonalds everyday (as you would)- and even though he's skinny as a rake, it won't do him any goodGrin.

Must admit, dd1's birthday tradition meant we had McDonalds breakfast today (Pancakes mainly, and hash browns).

The morning I went in to be induced with her, we stopped off for pancakes at McDonalds. Grin

She didn't make an appearance until 36 hours later, by emcs, but I enjoyed my breakfast Grin.

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 20:54

I've never had a McDonalds breakfast (there isn't one here or where I work). I am partial to a Wetherspoons breakfast though.

I worked in Pizza Hut for 6 months once and had pizza every day. I didn't get fed up with it (but was probably malnourished!).

Raahh · 16/08/2019 21:00

I worked in a bread/cake shop for years from the age of 16 (used to work there in my holidays during university). The bakery was on site. I got fed up with cakes and bread very early on. Was years before I could face a cream cakeGrin.

I like Wetherspoons breakfasts too. Mainly the endless cups of coffee. Dh and I go sometimes when he is off.
I don't eat meat- but I do love the McDonald's hash browns Grin.

Raahh · 16/08/2019 21:01

I do like Pizza HutBlush

I just love food that is probably not good for me.

I'm almost past the point of caring Grin.

TDogsInHats · 16/08/2019 21:29

I like all the fast foods apart from KFC. Chinese, Indian, McDonald's, pizza . Blooming heck it's making me hungry.
I must say I don't think I've had a 'spoons breakfast. Better have a word with DH tomorrow!

TDogsInHats · 16/08/2019 21:31

Your induction pancakes story is interestingRaahh.
I ate a McDonald's a few hours before DD made a surprise (2 weeks early) appearance. She loves McDs.

Raahh · 16/08/2019 21:34

There's nothing I can really eat in a KFC- although they have started doing a rice thing, that I'm not sure about. Everyone else likes the chicken- but the fries are not a patch on McDonaldsGrin .

I may have mentioned this before- because it is one of the things that cheered my up a lot when I discovered it. I have the 'Spoons Carpets' book.

I love it.

Every Wetherspoons has a different, very unique carpet, that is made in a special factory.
When I first found the book, I thought it was brilliant. Grin.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2019 21:35

I've never had breakfast in Spoons or McDonald's.
Is beer compulsory with a 🥄 breakfast ?
These might be my new challenges before Doctors returns.
I only mentioned Doctors in case anyone forgot what the thread was about Wine
