Just talking about racism it stopped and made me think about Asian people.
I honestly cannot remember seeing any Asian people on LI at all.
So I did a bit of digging and found this on Huffpost talking about last year's show:-
"The show is now in its fourth season, however when you look back, out of 97 islanders, there has been a total of 17 people of colour on the show. Among them, two have had South Asian origins – Omar Sultani and Malin Andersson (who is mixed Sri Lankan and Swedish)"
So there are significantly more black and mixed people on the show than make up the UK population but hardly any South Asian and no East Asian people on the show.
I was reading that the show reaches out to people via instagram etc to get them to take part in the show. Is this right?
If that is the case are they contacting Asian people and are being turned down by them or are the producers of the show simply not even trying to get Asians on the show or even deliberately making the decision to exclude Asians?
I think that is where some of the real concerns about racism lie.
