There are suggestions for shows that we’ve enjoyed - those marked with asterisk(s) are more uniformly loved or admired. Cautionary note: in categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. romance and thriller; supernatural, romance and a thriller, crime series with blossoming relationship aspects. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier elements. View the categories below as approximate & ask if you need guidance, eg for younger teens.

We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references. (Although its possible we have scared them all away since our early threads with the incessant fangirling. If you’re still reading, please say hi.)

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, film and kpop when the mood takes us. To get to grips with the lingo, try dramaloveaddicts.proboards.com/thread/24/korean-word-day?page=1

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but usually only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

Urgh. The two men in One Spring Night who will just not let their women go are awful. There’s FL’s boyf of 7 years and her older sister’s awful, awful estranged husband. What is it? Is divorce hugely frowned on in Korean society (only relevant to the big sis)? Why is the boyfriend clinging on for grim life, even though she’s been really clear she doesn’t love him? He’s even suggested a loveless marriage. Is it about loss of face - some kind of weird, all pervasive male pride?

I’m getting a bad feeling about the older sister - she doesn’t seem to have a way out of the corner she’s been backed into. 😞

So it was only in tonight's episode of Absolute Boyfriend where Diana is wearing a heejeous black dress with huuuuuuge shoulders that I realised she is Choi Da In from Her Private Life!! (who was after Ryan Gold)

Yes, looking forward to Hotel del Luna it looks fun. It looks like there are 40 (20) episodes of Boyfriend on the Viki page so either it's been pre-filmed or he is filming both somehow, or they have only filmed the trailers for Hotel

Still don't know how the story will go but am on Team Robot. I am assuming that due to the unwritten laws of kdrama that as they have now kissed they will end up together. Am also enjoying the sub triangle of tech guy, sauna goddess & Ma Wang Joon's manager.

Search WWW continues to be interesting. There’s something about ML that I can’t quite put my finger on. He’s a bit of a shit-stirrer/agent provateur with an edge to him, but has outward persona of being affable, level-headed and gentle. You never know what twists will fall in a kdrama plot so, I really hope he doesn’t have nefarious purpose and is genuinely affable, level-headed and gentle for FL’s sake.

There’s already been a twist that points to dark doings and sabotage, which is why I’m now on high alert.

There’s a character in ep 5 of WWW that it took me a few minutes to place. Then I realised he looked different without long hair - he’s Dong-Mae’s right hand man/yakuza in Mr Sunshine.

Oh he was good in that.

Just caught up with last night's Angel - awwwww tugged at the heartstrings as only kdrama can.

Oooo! Will be catching up tonight!!.... 😘👍

Lots of exciting series coming through! When the devil calls my name with JKH, Hotel del Luna with Zero Nine Crowned Clown, a legal thing again with a devil them with Choi Jin and Melt with Grrr JCW !!👍🤣😆

OMG. You guys have to watch WWW. The FL is such a bad ass and Scarlett is a fantastic sidekick. It’s so much fun. In terms of approach, they are reminiscent of Thelma and Louise. The arena and events are different, but their response is 👌. Episode 5 was hugely gratifying.

WWW is getting a lot of love from a kdrama Tumblr account... Will add to list! 👍👍

New drama with Choi Jin Hyuk is called Justice coming soon - another tall ML that fits boatyard's criteria. I'm not sure though whether down the pub he would a) guffaw b) be a bit too earnest c) be shy and his face would just crinkle up into an adorable smile
