Sorry for the boring title...

OP posts:

Why do people say that Colin is the act that “the Royal Family will love”? How do they know what Chaz & Camilla like?

itswinetime · 03/06/2019 01:08

Isn't it Meghan and Harry that do the royal variety show now? They did last year. But I agree we have no idea what any of them would like to see but to be honest I'm not sure any of the finalists were acts you could say that about.....in fact could we ever? For all we know they wanted fartman though!

GoFiguire · 03/06/2019 01:20

How do we know they wouldn’t have loved The Queen?

itswinetime · 03/06/2019 02:57

So a few people on here said the didn't get hope with x I have watched the act a few time now if you followed the instructions there is no way not to get hope! Out of interest those that didn't end up with hope where did you start? With hope the only circle on the middle line I don't see who you could follow the instructions re circle/square make a diagonal move as he said and not get hope it was the only answer unless you didn't start with a circle or made a wrong move somewhere. It's one of those 'tricks' that seem random but in reality you only could get one outcome. It may seem clever but in reality the other tricks were better.

RealJudas · 03/06/2019 07:55

Agreed that you're always going to get hope (if followed instructions correctly), very unimpressive Hmm

Also I reckon in the audition where Ant and Dec drew the same thing, they would have been given pens that don't actually write and the pictures were already there, then just a bit of sleight of hand required... I doubt Ant and Dec were in on it.

Have been a bit underwhelmed by the (billion) magic acts this year - most of the tricks have been either manipulating what the person picks or manipulating the reveal..... It becomes a bit boring after a while. I preferred Ben Hart's story telling/sleight of hand - very slick.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2019 08:14

X/ whoever conveniently said he didn't show the book in the cot last year because he didn't get through to the final : so it being not shown last year would be excused away.

callmeadoctor · 03/06/2019 08:28

Will someone explain the book? Missed it completely and Ive no idea what people are talking about!

LIZS · 03/06/2019 08:38

Marc used footage of his daughter Isabella from last year which showed her in her cot with a book entitled Hope. Presumably it would have been his finals act had he got through then as it related to the story. Producers must have know his identity and someone edited the footage. If he was around the theatre during rehearsals it can't have been that big a secret, as demonstrated by a mnetter iding him earlier this week.

itswinetime · 03/06/2019 14:10

If you search his original audition from 2 years ago the John Lennon book is there in the video so I think it always was there you just don't notice it because you were looking at the teddy. I don't think that was editing. But yes his whole act while it seems clever is very easily explainable where as although bens tricks seem simpler and we all know it was slight of hand it's harder to see how he did it.

louise5754 · 03/06/2019 14:19

Lol when SB and MB duetted my DD9 said oh no way these won't get through 😂🙈

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 03/06/2019 14:28

I thought magician Ben was excellent. I still can't get my head around his amazing egg trick! I'd pay to see him. The gimmicky predictions and over the top reveals from x and the other magicians this series are boring as we know how they will end. Derren Brown was doing it years ago.

jinglebitch · 03/06/2019 14:29

Am fairly convinced ant and dec didn't know X was Marc Spellman; we were backstage all day with him and no body there knew. A few researchers admitted they knew afterwards, but he never once took his mask off, and didn't talk at all. We thought he was a woman, because he has little feet!

louise5754 · 03/06/2019 14:31

I was convinced x was a woman because of the body shape.

I was rooting for Ben. Good old fashioned magic. I am a bit of a killjoy can normally work out how tricks are done, but not the shrinking card deck

Jacesmum1977 · 03/06/2019 18:11

I think Colin won due to patriotism more than anything else, and why not?
It’s coming up to the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings, he’s 89, served for his queen and let’s face it if there’s one thing the British public love (most of them) is the armed forces; especially a veteran. I think he was an obvious winner.

Jacesmum1977 · 03/06/2019 18:12

I thought SB and MB were awful. Sounded quite pitchy imo

CoolCarrie · 03/06/2019 22:31

I’m glad Colin won, he fought in Korea just as my dear late Dad did, and it’s always been the Forgotten War. My late dad would be the same age, and he could hold a tune as well.

GoFiguire · 04/06/2019 09:27

Is that why he wasn’t on the semi line up with the K-Pop band?

SESthebrave · 04/06/2019 10:00

Did anyone else hear David interviewed yesterday on Heart. He said that he met Colin a couple of years ago when researching his Chelsea Pensioner character for his Ice Monster book.

I wonder if he mentioned Colin to the BGT producers.

Bailey6 · 04/06/2019 10:40

It’s a real shame, that someone had his act nicked. And I really hope he gets recognised for this.
Unfortunately it’s now a very contrived process. Like X Factor. Comedians on the circuit are being invited to audition in select auditions. And due to other comedians success on the show, they have decided to give it a go. Janice (Barbara) isn’t the only one that is a working professional. The majority of them are now. John Archer, (fooled pen & teller) The escapologist Guy, siobahn, Kojo, last year’s winner & all the comedians on there. On x-factor they keep the acts up and give them songs to learn st midnight for the morning.....so you get the heightened emotion etc. It’s a huge machine. Personally, I really liked chapter 13 and the group of women dancers that did the whole empowerment routines. John Archer was really good too. I wish he’d had got to the final instead of Kojo. What really alienated him from me, was his comment about untidy houses.......I found that to be judgemental, and actually not nice. I stopped listening after that. And started tidying 😂 CP was probably told to audition by DW. Quite like the fact that he was on& the winner. Never too old, and we need s bit of a pin up for the older generation. My OH disagrees, vehemently. Loved Flakefleet - such Unadulterated JOY. Hopefully he will get a tv show out of it..... how to make show costumes on a very, very tight government budget. Hated what happened to the ventriloquist guy, felt sorry that the producers had put him in that position. It is great to have a variety family show on tv but the format is tired.
I liked X’s reveal and did think it was clever. And he had put a lot of work in. Of course the producers knew who he was, don’t think the panel did at all. They may have even suggested that he come back. Ben Hart has amazing eyes and charisma but you can find his tricks revealed on you tube.
Cannot stand the BGMT, it hasn’t. The title is a lie 😂.
Diversity, were outstanding. I went back and watched their previous auditions and they were phenomenal. May just look at their tour. In fact, Ashley should be a judge now. He’s such an inspiration.
Wonder what is in store for next year.......

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 04/06/2019 13:12

I totally agree Ashley Banjo should be a BGT judge. He's got the talent and experience. He'd bring credence to the show and freshen it up. It's tired. I also think Stephen Mulhern would be a good judge. He's a great magician, he's been in the business forever and he makes me laugh.

SunshineCake · 04/06/2019 13:26

Actually BentBaastard Colin is giving some to where he lives to help them build accommodation

BentBaastard · 04/06/2019 13:34

That’s good to know sunshine.

SunshineCake · 04/06/2019 13:36

I didn't get what was empowering about the women dancing in their pants.
