It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

I liked it. I’ve been reading the books since they were first published (sooo bloody long) and think that Bran ending up as the king brings the story round in a full circle. If you haven’t read them - every chapter is from the viewpoint of one character, and the very first chapter of the first book is called Bran. He’s a small child and as a younger son has no great expectations for the future, but when the game finishes he’s the king. Seems kind of fitting to me.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 20:12

I keep hearing ‘What was the point of Jon being a Targaryan?’

My interpretation is that it’s about the ridiculousness of inheriting the right to rule to having some ‘destiny’ due to your bloodline.

Both Jon and Dany were dragon riders. They were both clearly Targaryan. Dany’s ‘Fire and Blood’ mentality was not about her blood, it was about her sense of entitlement. Jon Snow, who ‘knew nothing’, didn’t carry that baggage. He was a Stark due to his upbringing. In the same way he told Theon he was both a Greyjoy and a Stark. I suppose it’s the old nature vs nurture argument.

Traditional fantasy stories love the ‘hidden prince’ trope. This ending was far more satisfying than sticking an unwilling and unhappy Jon on the throne.

Orangecake123 · 20/05/2019 20:15

I wanted Dany and Jon to rule together.

Soubriquet · 20/05/2019 20:15

I hated that ending

Bran looks permanently stoned too.

Seems a complete waste to have all that battling... just to have the stoner king on the throne and Jon back in the north.

In literally just cried laughing 😂

Have you been watching? Never. Going. To. Happen.

cardibach · 20/05/2019 20:29

Seems a complete waste to have all that battling... just to have the stoner king on the throne and Jon back in the north
Apart from getting rid of the biggest threat to men and removing two tyrants...
And that’s where Jon wants to be!

IHeartArya · 20/05/2019 20:31

Will be interesting to see what thronecast makes of it all.

agirlhasnonameX · 20/05/2019 20:31

The council was nothing more than casual fan service and I hate the term 'casual fan,' but it really was....

Figgygal · 20/05/2019 20:31

Watching it again with dh as he doesn't know I've Seen it

I've gone from uncertain about it to realising It's actually good until Jon kills Dany then it's boring as shit

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 20:32

Ghost is missing an ear and got this black mark on his back.

My cat hates me if I leave it for more than a day. I sort of wanted Ghost to bite Jon’s head off. Joking not joking

I really liked the scene at the end where Arya, Jon and Sansa are all walking through different places. Linked together but far apart.

Lolly86 · 20/05/2019 21:16

I enjoyed it I think they all had the ending they should have done

ChaircatMiaow · 20/05/2019 21:29

I kept waiting for Drogon to come back for Jon, and for Jon to ride off on him

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 21:35

Jon never wanted to be king. People kept making him leader of shit and he did it because he had honour (and also not very bright) but he couldn't rule the seven kingdoms. People who think he was the 'true heir' have completely, spectacularly missed the point! Like whoosh over the head missed it.

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 21:39

I wanted Dany and Jon to rule together.

Like, yeah, though ... government made up of narcissistic megalomaniac and nice but dim guy who's way out of his depth but, like, totally means well and lends her psychopathic streak a veneer of legitimacy that stifles dissent. Should work out just dandy, right?

While I'm still not entirely sold on his majesty possibly literally a tree but definitely weird AF, I couldn't possibly imagine a worse outcome for the unfortunate inhabitants of these lands than those two as a 2-in-1.

Honeyroar · 20/05/2019 21:42

We thought Drogan was roasting Greyworm who has come to attack Jon, and I thought he was going to fly him away. I wish we saw what happened inbetween Dany dying and the dragon pit.

Stripyhoglets · 20/05/2019 21:49

Just watched it - avoided spoilers all day - I liked that ending. Destroying the Iron Throne was a nice touch. Genuinely didnt know who had stabbed who at first out of Jon or Dany. I would have liked more episodes to tell the story but the story was fine.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 21:53

When Jon stabbed Danaerys I thought for a minute that Arya had stabbed her or someone else had stabbed Jon. No way would Daenarys stab Jon though. She'd have burnt him.

SapatSea · 20/05/2019 22:00

So... Jon has to abide by the NIghtwatch rules (no children etc) but Sam can be Grand Maester without the training and a wife and children in tow, what happened to him ruling the Tarly lands?

I felt cheated by the gap in time after Jon killed Dany. What happened? Surely, Greyworm and the dothraki would have gone crazy and had Jon tortured and killed? not just locked him up for a few weeks while they waited for Bran to arrive and then naffed off to Naarth.

I thought Bran was supposed to have to meld with a weirwood tree and be the 3ER not get power himself. Did he have fore knowledge of a lot of it and knew that Sansa would rat on Jon's secret?

Why would any of the other kingdoms want a King when they could be independent like Sansa? Stark's cleared up.

Arya going to unknown lands reminded me a bit of Reepicheep in Narnia and LOTR.

Sad it has ended.

Oblomov19 · 20/05/2019 22:00

Just watched. Avoided all spoilers. Dh was very disappointed in the whole of s8 and thought this episode was poor. I had to agree. Was very disappointed.

Oilyskinproblems · 20/05/2019 22:00

Literally could have sat guessing for hours and I still wouldn’t have guessed Bran!

Also amazed that Tyrion survived to the end - I’ve been living in fear for his life in every episode for a season or two now.

Such an emotional episode poor Dany I wish there could have been a better ending for her but I get why she had to die. Such a fantastic show loved every minute of it!

Iambuffy · 20/05/2019 22:03

I rather liked the juxtaposition between Jon - being "punished/banished" but ultimately probably happy - and Tyrion - most powerful man after the king but probably miserable in a job he didnt want....

NotMyPuppy · 20/05/2019 22:07

But his whole story arch is a bit odd for me what was the point in him being Targaryen?

I agree with this, such a big plot point and seemingly for nothing.

Also was the wall fixed?!

I was emotional when Sansa was crowned Queen in the north to the theme music starting up, it’s how I pictured the ending (except on the iron throne). Also loved “died protecting his queen” from Brienne.

Mixed feelings about the small council meeting because it seems a very glib way to have the last dialogue but then I suppose it signified things getting back to normal.

Dany’s face when she realised Sad Wonder if she thought it was because he wanted the throne for himself?

I’m just sad it’s over really!
