It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

I very much enjoyed Robin Arryn's sitting down expressive teenage legs of whatevs this is so lame.

Mitzimaybe · 20/05/2019 18:36

I liked: Sam suggesting democracy and everyone else just laughing. Edmure's comedy banging his sword into the tent pole when he turned round after his "why I should be king" speech. Liked seeing the representatives of the surviving houses at that "let's pick a king" meeting.

I didn't like: Well, most of it actually. Dany would have killed Tyrion, not locked him in a cell - in the prev. episode she told him if he betrayed her again it would be the last time. She executed Varys PDQ at Dragonstone and had just torched the entire population of Kings Landing. She would have executed him right there on the steps in front of everyone, to set an example.

She would probably also have killed Jon to secure her claim to the throne. She did accuse him of betraying her iirc. Even if she didn't, Greyworm would have executed Jon immediately for killing Dany.

Jon wouldn't have defended Dany to Tyrion when he visited him in the cell. Jon was appalled by the torching of the city and the death of all the innocents.

Bran as King is just rubbish. Unlike a lot of people, I've quite liked "other-worldly" Bran in the last few series but just no to him being king.

So much more things I thought were "cop outs" that I could go on for ages about it but I'll spare you all.

Mitzimaybe · 20/05/2019 18:43

Oh one more thing - terribly, terribly disappointed by Arya's non-role in the last two episodes. What was the point of all that training to be a Faceless Man? Just to kill the Freys? Meh. She should have had some part to play in killing one or more of Cersei, the Mountain or Dany. All we had was her trying and failing to save a mother and child from the fire and riding off on a white horse in the last episode.

(Favourite moment of previous episode was Dr Frankenstein being killed by his own monster creation.)

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 20/05/2019 18:45

I really enjoyed it. Thought it was (mostly) a fitting end for all involved.

Can't wait to watch it all again as think I'll enjoy it even more now that I won't be stressing over how it ends!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 20/05/2019 18:46

Without the training, she wouldn't have been capable of killing the NK - I assumed that was the point (the Freys killing was just a happy by-product).

MsMarvellous · 20/05/2019 18:51

I'm up to s2 e8 on my binge rewatch of the whole series.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 18:55

Umm Arya killed the night king...

The faceless man training isn't necessarily a good thing. Being an assassin with no individual identity is hardly what you'd want for her is it? And she never completed her training - maybe she shouldn't be wearing faces willy nilly in case there is some risk to it that she doesn't know?

JaneEyre07 · 20/05/2019 18:58

I kind of feel a bit disappointed in it all - but then I think I was always going to feel like that because it's the end.

It just feels a bit meh that strong women like Cersei and Danys were just killed so "easily" if that's the word. They've gone through so much to just have that ending, if that makes sense. I think the 7 kingdoms should have been split and they all had one each..... and then the war carried on to get them back again. Like infinity.

Honeyroar · 20/05/2019 18:58

I think killing the night king was totally the point of the faceless lessons. She learned to sneak up on people and position herself.

Perhaps Drogon needed to be charged up or have another canister of butane before he could kill Tyrion or Jon. He took a few minutes to fire up when he melted the throne!

hoxtonbabe · 20/05/2019 19:00

Bloomin Bran?!?! I didn’t see that coming, I can’t say I’m best pleased with that, and I’m annoyed Sansa is queen ( although many on here already predicted that) as I really dislike her. That said i did like this episode though, as much as I have always rooted for Dany even I knew she Tool it too far and had to go after her last stunt! I just would have liked to have seen drogon at the end as I felt so sorry for him when he realised his mummy was dead, I’m glad he melted down the iron throne though!

Towards the end when they mentioned Tyrion wasn’t mentioned at all in the book and he was not best pleased, and when they were all at the table discussing matters made me chuckle.

Well that’s that then, I came to GOT very late, I watched season 7 on sky when It was released, really liked it, so then went back to watch season 1-6 but luckily I had 2 very long years to catch up on it all.,. now I need to find a replacement 😢

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 19:04

I think Danny didnt kill Tyrion instantly because she was queen she wanted to make a show of what she would do to those who betrayed her.

What made less sense was the unsullied they could have killed Jon and Tyrion got justice jumped on the boats and been off before the northern armies even knew he was dead.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 19:14

I like the idea of Sansa as QITN: ruthless, strong-minded and intelligent without having super-powers or being a sadistic psychopath (apart from the bit with Ramsey and the dogs but that was understandable).

Bran as king sort of makes sense. He is the least worst option out of fairly poor pickings.

Jon is the new Bloodraven - killing a relative who is a contender to the throne and then going north of the wall - while the old Bloodraven becomes king.

WhiskersPete · 20/05/2019 19:16

Oh ffs not Bran Flake - the most boring character in the whole thing! So many unanswered questions. So many pointless plot holes. What is the point of the 3ER and surely Bran must have known he would become King all along? What was the point of Cersei's pregnancy? What was the point of sending Bronn to kill Jaime and Tyrion? What was the point of Danny's entire character arc? Why would Jon be sent off to the Night's Watch as they don't exist anymore? What was the point of Jaime and Brienne? Come to think of it, What was the point of Jon being a Targaryen at all?

Certainly peaked at season 6. It became too successful for its own good after that.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 19:20

Did there have to be a point to everything? Some of it was just storytelling!

WhiskersPete · 20/05/2019 19:40

Well of course not everything needs a point but there was just too much where we were made to think things were significant and they weren't.

I think it's an interesting point PP made about GRRM being about people and show producers being about plot. It's great for episodes like BOTB and Long Night which were brilliant but not so much for other episodes with character development.

Lilybetsey · 20/05/2019 19:49

I loved it, all of it. I cried , and felt emotionally rung out by the end, fab job !

MaddieElla · 20/05/2019 19:52

They did a grand job of building the wall again

Hmm
Xyzzzzz · 20/05/2019 19:53

I was so disappointed. If they’re have developed the storyline a bit more and executed it better, it would have gone down better.

I’m really annoyed that Cersei got to die with someone she loved and dany was killed by someone she loved. What was the point.

Tyrion got to be hand of the king and poor Jon got sent to the wall? How is that fair? What a rubbish season it was for Jon all that build up for what?

BlondeBumshelll · 20/05/2019 19:53

The only part I hated was the small council meeting. Why the fuck would they put Bronn in charge of anything?? It's as if they decided to round up the fan favourites and have them all at the table, but Bronn's behaviour the previous episode made me dislike him.

I was ok with Bran becoming King but I would have liked to have seen him use his 3ER powers to show that he was the best choice. Just something like dipping into the past to tell us what he planned for the realm for the future. Just......something!!

Jon got fucked in ass. He's the rightful heir to the throne, he killed the Queen to protect everyone, he brought the armies together to fight The Night King and he got what?? Fuck off GoT. That's the only real annoyance at the whole ending. Sam and the Starks should have fought harder for Jon.

MsMarvellous · 20/05/2019 19:55

But Jon didn't want the throne and got to live with Ghost and Tormund in the North where it's always been said he belongs. He has the North in him.

He would have been miserable as king in the south and didn't want to lead full stop. Jon's ending was a happy one.

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 19:56

Why the fuck would they put Bronn in charge of anything??

I thought he got master of coin because he had loads of money they money Cersei gave him and high garden is associated with money to isn't it so they didn't really have a choice. I'm starting to think I completely misunderstood that though Blush

sonjadog · 20/05/2019 19:57

Going against the flow, I actually enjoyed the last episode! Yes, it was very much finishing everything off neatly, but it was always going to be that.

I think the star of the episode was Drogon. Finally we got a glimpse into his dragony mind and it turned out he thought the whole fight for the iron throne was a huge waste of time. I hope he finds dragon friends to hang out with somewhere.

Jon turned out to be as hard of thinking as we always suspected but finally Tyrion got a thought to stick in his brain. I think the North is the perfect place for him to get over the last years of his life, which, let´s face it, have been pretty traumatic. Also I liked his smile when he was reunited with his dog. Sometimes in life you just need your dog.

Iambuffy · 20/05/2019 19:59

Well.

Very bittersweet ending.

The end scene with Jon riding off into the forest was a bit "meh" but tbh it was always going to be, wasn't it?

How do you make the last ever scene in something as epic as GofT...um....epic??

I think for Jon this was the happiest ending he could have had.

Sansa as QITN is good. She will rule wisely.

Arya going travelling also believable.

Anyone think GRRMs statement about the wolves foreshadowing their owners fates could be true?

I think under bran the broken the 6 kingdoms will be safe and prosperous.

After that? Who knows?

Brienne being head of the kings guard is ace and her filling in Jamie's page in the book was lovely.

Being hand as Tyrion's punishment very apt!

Feeling rather deflated now its over.

Eps 3 and 5 were so incredible I'm not sure where the finale had to go.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 20:02

Master of coin is like chancellor of the exchequer - it’s not their own money they spend!

I cannot imagine Bronn negotiating with the Iron Bank of Braavos.

And Sam dropped out of the Unseen University after half a term. How the hell is he suddenly Grand Maester?

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 20:06

Master of coin is like chancellor of the exchequer - it’s not their own money they spend!

Yes I'm realising that now it's just the way they were talking to him last night it all made sense in my head it was like 3.30 that's My excuse anyway Wink
