So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

Re: Tyrion - I’m wondering if he’s pushing her to breaking point to show Jon what she’s really like and to get him to claim the throne.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 14:14

7 years of character development for that?

I hated:
Dany - it was way too quick and why not just blast The Red Keep? I understand that she's lost everyone she cared about but her rage was at Cersei. The turn was way too quick.
Greyworm
Euron and Jaime
Cersei's death was shite
Cleganbowl was ridiculous

I think the wildfire must have caused some of the explosions but not all. I also wonder who Varys was writing to.

I think Jon will kill Dany now. No idea who ends up on the throne but hope it's not Sansa.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 13/05/2019 14:20

I thought that was brilliant - loved it all. (I've not read the books, only watched the show and it all made perfect sense to me)

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 14:21

I don't think Emilia Clarke is happy at her character's end. In an interview with Vanity Fair she said "knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone's mouth of what Daenerys is" and recently I saw a clip where she was at a premiere (GOT premiere??) and was asked about the writing of the final series. She made a comment along the lines of "yeah best writing ever" then pulled a face. I definitely thought she was being sarcastic.

RussianSpamBot · 13/05/2019 14:23

Haha maybe sweetsummerchild. I'm just surprised that budget limitations would have such a significant impact on the way they approached the series.

Dany blasting the whole city makes sense because she's realised she isn't going to rule through love. So she sees the other alternative as rule through fear, hence what she said to Jon. And smoting the city will make the rest of the populace fear her. I'm not saying it was sensible, nor that it won't come back to bite her, but I think that's the rationale. Combine it with being increasingly paranoid and upset after being betrayed by Varys, being unable to rely on Tyrions judgement, losing Mel and Jorah two of the people she loved the most and Jon no longer wanting a romantic relationship, I think it makes sense for her character. Plus there were indications this was coming, and she's always been comfortable enough with death!

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 14:31

I really don't think that Arya will be the one with Danny. Emilia Clarke said Danny's ending was bittersweet that can only apply to Jon or Tyrion at this point. I think it has to be Jon he will have to kill the women he loved and then probably her dragon and either go down with Drogon or run away to the north to wander alone in his usual self loathing way!

Arya is at Kings Landing for another purpose 1) I think to complete her assassin arch and see revenge isn't worth everything and 2) I wonder if she gives Jon a pep speech to help do what we all know he has to do.

We still have 1 o shit moment left! With Sansa, brienne and bran out of the way at winterfell Jon and Danny's Fate sealed that only really leaves
Tyrion and Arya....Arya has has a big moment already so you have to worry it's Tyrion!- plus he is both Lannister and hand of the queen so he can and probably will get both sides of the anger!! I hope it's not that he is a secret tarygern though that's been done and in the show there is no real foreshadowing of that!

SweetSummerchild · 13/05/2019 14:33

itswinetime I agree. I know his editor was p*ed off back in 2015 when he announced Winds would be further delayed, and I can’t see any reason for them to agree to let him push the publication further back because of the show.

Considering this is his Magnum Opus, you would have thought he’d have an interest in seeing it done ‘properly’ on screen. D&D were always good at adapting, but have been crap at writing.

StarbucksSmarterSister I saw that Vanity Fair article earlier this year but hadn’t mentioned it on these threads as I thought it was way too much of a spoiler.

KittensinaBlender · 13/05/2019 14:35

Overall I enjoyed the episode although Cersei and Jamie's death was a bit meh (if in fact they are both dead). Great music and cinematography and some properly touching moments.

I'm quite disappointed with Cersei's portrayal overall this season. I imagine it's hard to wrap up so many storylines into 6 episodes but all she has done this season is stand around either looking a bit smug or with one artful tear balance on her eyelid - where did the machiavellian Queen go?

I think Arya might kill Jon and then kill Dany wearing his face. The Targ's need to go. I hope Sansa and Tyrion end up ruling but we shall see.

SweetSummerchild · 13/05/2019 14:36

I can’t believe there is such a large proportion of the fandom that thinks this isn’t going to happen in the books.

D&D would never just make this up off their own backs given how popular Dany is amongst show watchers.

I’m guessing those ‘mother of dragons’ shopping bags in Primark won’t be selling too well now.

KittensinaBlender · 13/05/2019 14:39

I saw that interview and I thought she meant the ending of the whole show was bittersweet, not Dany's specific death (if she dies at all, which she must, surely?).

IhateBoswell · 13/05/2019 14:39

Someone has suggested on reddit that Rhaegal should have been killed in this episode, after the bells had rang calling a truce, to add to Dany's wrath.
I agree.

Lellochip · 13/05/2019 14:40

Ridiculous leather clad camp pirate that he was.

Camp, you say? Grin

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 14:42

I saw that interview and I thought she meant the ending of the whole show was bittersweet, not Dany's specific death (if she dies at all, which she must, surely?).

Could of I had I just assumed she meant for Danny! But yes it could of been the whole show she was talking about I hadn't thought of that!

TheQueef · 13/05/2019 14:42

Euron just makes me think of a Kenny Everett mash up.
Hate him.

Encyclo · 13/05/2019 14:44

Arya can’t kill Dany, that’s far too contrived for me. I fear for Sansa though, now that Dany is a megalomaniac

musicinspring1 · 13/05/2019 14:45

Hello all - I’m a long time lurker of these threads and am grateful to all those more knowledgeable than me who point out things I’ve missed Grin
A favour - did Tyrion block the tunnel exit ? Is that what he asked Davos to do? Or did Davos put the boat there ?
I’m not clear if Tyrion was genuinely trying to help Jamie or it was a set up ( quite a key difference that I feel I should have got Confused)

Lellochip · 13/05/2019 14:46

I'm not sure how I feel about the ep yet, currently brain is just occupied by poor stupid Sandor... We knew it was going to happen, but ugh, if there was ever anyone in more need of a happy ending Sad

(Should've learnt by season 1 to never have favourites!)

IhateBoswell · 13/05/2019 14:47

No, Tyrion didn't block the tunnel exit, it was rubble in the way.

SweetSummerchild · 13/05/2019 14:47

I’m not clear if Tyrion was genuinely trying to help Jamie or it was a set up ( quite a key difference that I feel I should have got confused)

I think Tyrion was genuinely trying to save his brother in the same way Jaime saved him.

KittensinaBlender · 13/05/2019 14:50

Euron is the camp lovechild of Ewan McGregor and Jack Sparrow.

I was disappointed that Jamie didn't set him straight on the parentage of Cersei's baby. I would have loved to see his face if when he said "I fucked the Queen..." Jamie had answered "Yeah, well I fucked her first and it's my baby she's passing off as yours", or somesuch. Och well.

KittensinaBlender · 13/05/2019 14:54

Yeah I think Tyrion was genuine too. I think he knew that Jamie could never be settled without Cersei and so he knew he would have to help him rescue her to save him.

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 14:55

I fear for Sansa though, now that Dany is a megalomaniac

I did wonder if Danny would call for the lords/lady's to come bend the knee know which could be mirroring what happened when Rickard, Brandon and the mad king. But I don't think there is time!

musicinspring1 · 13/05/2019 14:55

Ah ok , thanks guys. I’d like to think he was genuine after their conversation.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 13/05/2019 14:57

Poor Jaimie Lannister, spent all of those years being called 'Kingslayer' because he had prevented the mad King from burning all of the innocent folk of King's Landing with wildfire, only to it to come full circle.

My initial reaction was both shock, and the feeling that I didn't like this episode. On reflection, I think I'm just feeling very disappointed in Danaerys, daft as that may sound.

I'm making no predictions at all for the last episode, and am trying to stay strong and away from reddit the temptation of spoilers.

TheQueef · 13/05/2019 14:58

Tyrion is puzzling me I know he's blind to his brother and sister but I don't understand why he grassed on Verys, I thought he really liked verys? It just doesn't seem his style.
