Hail survivors of The Battle of Winterfell.

The 'mysterious' episode 4 premieres tonight.

Who will be with us at 2am?

I am desperate to find out if Arya's kill is openly discussed and acknowledged, or does Bran take the credit, or does it remain a mystery.

Given Emilia Clarke has said Episode 5 is the one for which we will need 'bigger television screens' what will lead up to it?

I can’t predict the ending- so many theories. Loathe Dany, don’t rate Jon. Don’t mind Cersei. I see her more as a Margaret Beaufort figure than Dany. More manipulative. I could see Margaret burning her enemies in the Sept.

Stannis sacrifice of Shireen I think must be based on Agamemnon’s sacrifice of Iphigenia for the battle of Troy. It’s not in the books I don’t think. So is it likely to be so in the future or something D&D put in?

ElspethFlashman · 12/05/2019 07:57

I have a suspicion that Tyrion will survive now. I always thought he was a goner, but his current arc doesn't seem to he heading for a heroic death.

However it could be heading for a "disillusionment with being Hand" arc and he might decline to be Jon's Hand and retire. So he goes from someone who seeks infucence and importance to someone who no longer wants to be involved.

I still think Sansa will stay Up North.

Dany has to die if Jon gets the Throne. There is no alternative universe where she can rule beside him. I think her ending will be wrapped up in the dragons ending, that she chooses to end her life by saying Dracarys to her dying dragon and he immolates her as he dies or something and it's all highly symbolic.

The big question about Cleganebowl is: do we get to see what’s under the helmet? Confused

OrianaBanana · 12/05/2019 08:37

Isn’t she immune to fire though Elspeth?

SweetSummerchild · 12/05/2019 08:47

Stannis sacrifice of Shireen I think must be based on Agamemnon’s sacrifice of Iphigenia for the battle of Troy. It’s not in the books I don’t think. So is it likely to be so in the future or something D&D put in?

Shireen’s burning will be in the books, but the execution (no pun intended) will be different. In the show Stannis took Melissandrea, Selyse and Shireen on his military campaign to Winterfell. In the books they are still at Castle Black. My guess is that her being burnt will be down to Melissandre and Selyse (possibly with the knowledge of Val who is a book only character).

Stannis, like all the nobility of Westeros, is utterly obsessed with having an heir. I just don’t see him burning his only daughter. I may be wrong though.

RedForShort · 12/05/2019 09:12

Think I totally missed the Cleganebowl boat!!! So much so I've only recently looked up what it means (had seen it just skipped over it!!!)

I would say that if we're GoT of yore we couldn't be sure anyone survives the next two episode. But I think Tyrion, Jon and Arya are fairly safe bet in not being dead at the end.

ElspethFlashman · 12/05/2019 09:26

Is dragonfire different though? 🤔

You're probably right.

OrianaBanana · 12/05/2019 09:47

I think Jaime has to die, whether killing Cersei or not he’s a bit pointless after the big battle (assuming there is one).

weaselwords · 12/05/2019 10:28

Varys is very unhappy with Danaerys and has told her so, but she disregarded his advice. If she does burn Kings Landing, which is what I think will happen in revenge for Missandei’s murder, he will look to get her killed. That is what Tyrion was saying “Don’t” to in their most recent conversation. Mellissandre predicted that he would die “in this strange land” so I’m guessing he will try to off Danaerys to stop her murdering thousands of ordinary people and she will get wind and kill him first. Since Arya is heading south, I’m wondering if she will do it, but we’ve never seen her act for Varys before, so I’m not sure.

Slightly off topic, but have just waded through Fire & Blood and it was such a slog. Even with the family tree and me making my own notes it was very complicated. Plus, I was expecting a novel style narrative but instead it reads like a history text book. I was really frustrated with it. To be honest, I think GRR Martin is a very self indulgent, narcissistic arse, but I still bloody bought it Grin

You're right it is a total slog. Although when I bought it I knew it was supposed to be a history book, but I didn't think he conveyed this very well as one moment it does read like a matter of fact account of history and the next it goes a little off and is more story like than document, so had a really strange feel.

I would just like to say that these threads have been such a pleasure to be on this season. Everyone is level-headed and rational and respectful of others’ opinions.

A large proportion of the fandom seem to be suffering a major bout of cognitive dissonance after the last episode and Facebook groups, subreddits and livestreams are full of death threats, rape threats and suggestions that people insert various inanimate objects into bodily orifices. It’s quite frightening really.

No wonder D&D are going ‘off grid’ during the finale.

agirlhasnonameX · 12/05/2019 11:50

Omg sweetsummerschild that's disgusting! Over a fucking tv show! I mean I'm obsessed with it as much as the next person but people really loose all perspective don't they! Threats to D&D or to each other for not agreeing? Not that either is acceptable nor better than the other.
I've been avoiding reddit and such as scared of spoiler leaks, so I'm grateful this thread is respectful of people who don't want them, but hearing that even more so!

RedForShort · 12/05/2019 12:02

, I think GRR Martin is a very self indulgent, narcissistic arse,
I'd say so too, and it's the reason he's not written the book. Far preferable for him to travel around being celebrated and worshipped by his fandom (and it is quite intensive lauding as the fandom are slightly obsessive as noted above!)

M15sterPip · 12/05/2019 12:09

This thread has taught me that there are so many teasers and foreshadowings in the show that the number of directions it could head in is pretty numerous, and everyone has their own theories (although those theories probably say as much about the theorisers as they do about the story) so there is no way everyone is going to be happy. Maybe making the theories is actually the enjoyable bit? I've decided that so long as the ending makes reasonable narrative sense I'll try to be happy about it.

(But I don't want them to kill Tyrion. Grin)

OneInAMillionYou · 12/05/2019 15:48

I agree with you SweetSummerChild (again)!

These threads have been so enjoyable. Elsewhere in the fandom it is like Battle of the Bastards every single day. I don't even dip a toe in the waters any more.

Dare I say it might be because this is a female dominated website? I know men post and their views are welcome but the general vibe here is a bit more supportive and respectful. (Except AIBU of course 😀)

I'm loving this thread too - it's making watching the show even more enjoyable. Thanks all!

OneInAMillionYou · 12/05/2019 16:05

I've just opened the thread for tonight's episode and really look forward to carrying on our conversation.

It's been about this time in the last few weeks that the leaks and spoilers have been seen elsewhere on line. We want no part of them!

Hope everyone manages to get a disco nap in before 2 am. I am so torn between wanting to know what happens and dreading the end of the show. We only have another two episodes 😢

ElspethFlashman · 12/05/2019 16:28

OH MY GOD I'VE JUST HAD AN IDEA.

You know how we're all saying that Varys is toast? What if that's the thing that is the last straw for Tyrion and leads to his betrayal of Dany? Cos right now we're being led to believe its the sacking of KL that will be Tyrion last straw but what if its Varys being killed?

But if that happens, it needs time to happen which could mean that Dany kills Varys in the next episode! OMG!

SweetSummerchild · 12/05/2019 16:29

OneInAMillionYou thanks for the new thread!

RedForShort · 12/05/2019 17:20

Won't be watching till tomorrow night, so won't be on new thread till then (and off all social media tomorrow!!)

Interesting theory about Tyrion ElspethFlashman, certainly one to consider!!

tillytoodles1 · 12/05/2019 19:44

No matter what happens next week I'll be crying.

Summersunshine2 · 12/05/2019 20:18

Can someone please link to the new thread (sorry I'm not very good at all this!).
Thank you Smile

Summersunshine2 · 12/05/2019 20:19

Also is anyone watching the Ozzy you tube reviews?
They are so funny!
