Hail survivors of The Battle of Winterfell.

The 'mysterious' episode 4 premieres tonight.

Who will be with us at 2am?

I am desperate to find out if Arya's kill is openly discussed and acknowledged, or does Bran take the credit, or does it remain a mystery.

Given Emilia Clarke has said Episode 5 is the one for which we will need 'bigger television screens' what will lead up to it?

Yes Arya and the faceless men was tedious - I’m assuming she’s going to put those skills to use in the final couple of episodes or what was the point?

NotMyPuppy · 11/05/2019 13:26

Although she did use it get her revenge on Walder Frey, which is one of my favourite moments so 🤷🏻‍♀️

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 13:45

And to sneak past white walkers, kill the Night King and save the entire world from the army of the dead.

NotMyPuppy · 11/05/2019 13:46

Do we know that’s how she did it? I’ve seen it discussed in this thread but not sure seen it dealt with in the programme

OrianaBanana · 11/05/2019 13:51

Jon is a bit of a crap leader really. He doesn’t want to be leader in the first place. Then he makes unpopular decisions the first time and gets killed, the second time he immediately gives the crown away to someone else. He looks miserable all the time he is doing all of this. I certainly wouldn’t put him on the Iron Throne if I could help it. Mind you if Dani goes mad queen I wouldn’t put her on the throne either. Out of them all I’d probably choose Sansa though she has absolutely no claim whatever.

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 13:51

Well she definitely wasn't wearing a walkers face as that's impossible and she didn't fall down from the tree as I've seen theorised as she definitely came running from behind him as also seen in the game revealed for that weeks episode. So with that and the fact the white walkers hair blows as if she's darting past I think it's safe to assume she sneaked (is snuck a word?Confused) past them?

Abra1de · 11/05/2019 14:45

Of course she had to be shown training with the faceless men, but it did seem to go on rather a long time. And what did the stuff with the travelling actors all signify? I can’t remember now.

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 14:55

And what did the stuff with the travelling actors all signify? I can’t remember now.
Her contract was to kill lady crane, but when she realised the woman didn't deserve to die and the hit on her was over jealousy she decided to save her, the second contract she mucked up and one which then lead to her being kicked out the House of black and white and the Waif going after her.

Just heard that in an interview GRRM said he thinks they should have made five more seasons to stay true to the source material and he is disappointed with how things are turning out this season.

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 15:01

It was to signify that she was Arya Stark and not no one though. Sorry realised I just wrote what happened instead of why Hmm

fancynancyclancy · 11/05/2019 15:05

Anyway, there is still pleasure to be had in watching how it pans out. For me, there is nothing else to touch it on television. I've never been so invested in a show.

Agree, I moan about it but really it’s the best show I’ve ever watched & not sure what will take its place.

fancynancyclancy · 11/05/2019 15:07

Just heard that in an interview GRRM said he thinks they should have made five more seasons to stay true to the source material and he is disappointed with how things are turning out this season. I would have loved that but it’s unrealistic surely.

SweetSummerchild · 11/05/2019 15:11

To be fair, I think GRRM has allowed the story to run away from him. His story is very character-driven, but eventually he is going to have to start tidying up his own garden which has a very bad infestation of Meereenese knotweed and ‘kill off’ some of the storylines.

If his current trajectory is anything to go by, he is going to have to:

  1. Leave just as many questions unanswered as in the show
  2. Write at least another 5 books
  3. Never finish

He has strayed very far from his original intentions - the 3 year gap between Storm and Feast being one of them. He admitted about a year ago that he wrote himself into something of a dead-end as he needs a character to do something and they are dead (Quentyn?) and he is now very busy writing fake histories and prequel series while he procrastinates.

Considering where the characters are at the current point in the story (Sansa in the Vale, Stannis alive, Jon dead, Dany in the Dothraki sea) there is a frighteningly large amount of story to be covered in two books. That’s before even thinking about the Grand Northern Conspiracy, Faceless Men, Children of the Forest, fAegon and Dorne, Lady Stoneheart, glass candles/Quaithe and all the other mysteries.

SweetSummerchild · 11/05/2019 15:23

I read that interview with GRRM and I do think it’s a bit rich of him talking about how the show would ‘need another 5 seasons to be faithful to the story’ when the story doens’t even exist. All they have is a list of bullet points.

LaurieMarlow · 11/05/2019 15:23

Totally agree with all of the above. It’s nonsense to think that George could wrap up his story in another 2 books. I think 3 at an absolute minimum (and even then?!?!)

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 15:25

That's true sweetsummerschild, it will probably feel just as rushed in the books as it does in the show unless he just kills off certain characters to end their storylines and even then...
We won't know about NK until the same book he's killed in which I find a little disappointing, but I'd rather read the character plots than anything about the walkers anyway and that's a lot to play out over two books as it is.

Is he helping write the show prequel?
Sometimes as unreasonable as I know I am, I wish he would just lock himself in his work house and do nothing but write until he's finished. Even when I see him in interviews I can't help but yell at him in my head "you don't have time for this!"

SweetSummerchild · 11/05/2019 15:33

agirlhasnonameX I know what you mean. He reminds me of my father-in-law who has a house that’s falling down around his ears but just has to spend all morning digging over the allotments because, well, it really needs doing. How could they live without those fresh radishes?

His ending would be infinitely better than D&Ds, but I’m not convinced we’re getting it.

I haven’t bought Fire & Blood. I’m not lining his pockets any further until Winds of Winter comes out.

Yes, I think he’s acting as a ‘consultant’ on the prequels - so yet another task which will ‘have’ to get done.

agirlhasnonameX · 11/05/2019 15:43

Oh ffs how irritating!! It's like any excuse not to get them finished. If I was him, the last few seasons of the show and the fact it overtook the books would give me a huge incentive to create a spectacularly ASOIAF true ending that would make up for the lows of D&D. Would be such a waste of a story with this kind of potential. And I know it sounds horrible to say, but I'd also want my most popular work to be finished before I died.

I admire your stand sweetsumerschild, unfortunately I did buy and read it, playing right into his trap with being desperate for something new to read 😐 It's interesting but you're not missing much IMO.

Abra1de · 11/05/2019 15:46

Agirlhasno

Thank you!

SweetSummerchild · 11/05/2019 16:16

agirlhasnonameX I suspected I wasn’t missing much. I read the World of Ice and Fire but the Targs don’t really interest me very much - too omnipotent and not very nuanced characters in my opinion. I imagine it to be a bit like the Silmarillion - great for pub quizzes but not much else.

If we’re not getting any more ASOIAF then I’d rather get more Dunk and Egg stories with ‘real characters’ than fake histories.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 11/05/2019 16:38

DH and I talking this afternoon - can we see an ending with Dany on the Iron Throne and Jon as King in the North with his knee firmly unbent?

SweetSummerchild · 11/05/2019 18:06

can we see an ending with Dany on the Iron Throne and Jon as King in the North with his knee firmly unbent?

Considering how episode 4 went, I think that’s very unlikely at this point.

Does anyone actually still want to see Dany on the throne despite how the show is portraying her?

LaurieMarlow · 11/05/2019 18:09

Yeah I think a heroic death is the best Dany can hope for now.

yumyumpoppycat · 11/05/2019 22:35

I could see an ending where dany is on the throne but has lost everyone in the process, jorah is gone, missendei, probably grey worm in ep 5, jon in episode 6 maybe. However grey worm dying isn't going to blow our minds, so fingers crossed for something more interesting than that!

xsquared · 11/05/2019 23:11

We all seem to think that Sansa will be content being Lady of Winterfell, but I think with her being master manipulator now and nobody being suspicious of her, she could well end up being the ruler of the seven kingdoms. That would be an unexpected ending.

agirlhasnonameX · 12/05/2019 01:20

Silmarillion - great for pub quizzes but not much else.
Hahahaha!! 😂 they should put that on the blurb for F&B.

I think Jon is most likely to end up on the throne, even if he goes on to give it to someone else. I think Arya will survive and go west of Westeros, Dani will kill Varys- possibly Jon will out him for a traitor as it's Varys who meets Jon when he arrives at Dragonstone. Jaime will kill Cersei then kill himself. Mountain will win Cleganebowl then Arya will kill the mountain. Jon will kill Dani.
I hope Dani doesn't kill Tyrion too and that he survives.
Sansa and Bran are the hardest to predict at this point I think, I don't have much faith that Bran will do anything else but live out his days in the weirwood tree and I'm struggling to see how Sansa could do much, though I really need her to.

Would also be ok with me if they win KL and Cersei takes a potion called 'little brother' and kills herself, though not sure where that leave Jaime.
