Hail survivors of The Battle of Winterfell.

The 'mysterious' episode 4 premieres tonight.

Who will be with us at 2am?

I am desperate to find out if Arya's kill is openly discussed and acknowledged, or does Bran take the credit, or does it remain a mystery.

Given Emilia Clarke has said Episode 5 is the one for which we will need 'bigger television screens' what will lead up to it?

Yeah who the fuck is the new prince of Dorne supposed to be?

To quote Preston Jacobs - “Quentyn is Alive!”

It’s probably like Harry Strickland - some random name that they’ve pulled out of the books but bears no resemblance to a book character whatsoever.

Darkstar maybe?

LaurieMarlow · 09/05/2019 12:23

If Darkstar rocked up right now (preferably with Arianne in tow) I’d laugh so hard. I might even forgive them for the shitshow this looks like becoming.

DeadWife · 09/05/2019 12:23

Do agree Dorne has been thoroughly neglected - hopefully it will be properly addressed in the books?

OrianaBanana · 09/05/2019 12:39

Maybe (fake) Aegon from the books will turn up at the end when everyone is dead, and take the throne, job’s a good ‘un.

SweetSummerchild · 09/05/2019 12:42

Maybe (fake) Aegon from the books will turn up

Of course he will. He’s been hiding out in that hotbed of Blackfyre conspiracy called the Inn of the Clanking Dragon with all those Heddles and is poised to take the throne.

His name...... is Hot Pie!

ElenadeClermont · 09/05/2019 12:51

@LaurieMarlow I would forgive a lot for that twist. Grin

OrianaBanana · 09/05/2019 13:17

Who are the three heads of the dragon btw? I’d forgotten all about them. Dany, Jon and the NK?!

Abra1de · 09/05/2019 13:57

Tyrion?

LaurieMarlow · 09/05/2019 14:04

I’d forgotten about the three heads stuff. It was most vigorously debated for a while. I expect we’ll never know.

FWIW I always thought it would be Dany, Jon and Bran (as warg).

No theory I hated more than ‘Tyrion is yet another secret Targ’

AliceRR · 09/05/2019 14:18

Who are the three heads of the dragon btw? I’d forgotten all about them. Dany, Jon and the NK?!

I though Dany, Jon and Tyrion but we don’t know about Tyrion yet

I don’t understand the fake Aegon thing - is this from the books?

OrianaBanana · 09/05/2019 14:39

Yes, there’s another possible heir floating about.

agirlhasnonameX · 09/05/2019 14:45

Who are the three heads of the dragon btw?
Definitely not Tyrion. I don't think this is supposed to be much of anything actually, esp in the show. It's just another ancient prophecy and probably more of a riddle than anything.

I don’t understand the fake Aegon thing - is this from the books?
Yes he's a character in the books with his own storyline separate for now from what's going on in Westeros. Some people think the 'f' doesn't mean fake though, it's the 6th letter in the Latin alphabet and could mean that he will become King Aegon VI.

SweetSummerchild · 09/05/2019 14:47

I don’t understand the fake Aegon thing - is this from the books?

He’s supposedly the real Aegon - as in Rhaegar’s baby son who was killed by the Mountain in the sack of King’s Landing - but was ‘baby-swapped’ to safety. However, there are a lot of clues that he’s actually a Blackfyre which is a bastard branch of the Targaryans via Aegon IV. He is being supported by the Golden Company in the books and is met by Tyrion and Varys when they leave Kings Landing.

The original conquerer Targaryan was Aegon with his wife-sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. They were all dragonriders. The Targaryan sigil is a three-headed dragon and it is an auspicious number for Targs.

It was the pursuit of having a third child which led prophecy-mad Rhaegar to ditch his first wife who couldn’t have any more children and go in search of a new bride. That’s an oversimplification of a more complicated story.

agirlhasnonameX · 09/05/2019 14:51

Does anyone think Bran knew what was going to happen R.E Jon being Targaryen/Sansa/ Dani? Maybe he knows Dani is unfit to rule and foresaw how this would play out?
He definitely knew Arya would kill NK, so thinking he must know some other stuff too.

SweetSummerchild · 09/05/2019 15:04

Does anyone think Bran knew what was going to happen R.E Jon being Targaryen/Sansa/ Dani?

I think Bran is being the chess master in the situation. He told Sam to tell Jon at the precise moment that Sam was most pissed off with Dany and questioning her fitness to rule. Bran specifically gave Jon the choice in the Godswood whether or not to tell Sansa/Arya knowing full well what that chain of events would lead to.

Whether Bran has any nefarious motive is another question entirely

itswinetime · 09/05/2019 15:05

I though Dany, Jon and Tyrion but we don’t know about Tyrion yet

So in this theory Tyrion is another unknown Targaryen heir? Or in a metaphorical way he is the third key player.

I'm not sure about another unknown heir seems a little repetitive after Jon and who is left alive that would know only bran and again that's very close to johns reveal. It could work as the last holy shit moment though.

As I can't see anything that is for shadowed hot John or Danny doing it!

AliceRR · 09/05/2019 15:13

Thanks agirlhasnonamaX and Sweetsummerchild

I understand some of that. It’s complicated even after being simplified!

EluphNaugeMeop · 09/05/2019 19:55

This thread takes a lot of keeping-up-with.

I am convinced Jon will not sit on the Iron Throne. He died and was brought back to serve a purpose. If his purpose had been to slay the NK he would be dead by now. He has a different purpose and will die once it is done.

If the "little brother" prophecy is a thing, then the baby in Cercei's womb qualifies so she might just die in one of those messy female gynecological ways that women do from time to time.

ClashCityRocker · 09/05/2019 21:15

I think there's quite a bit of foreshadowing in the book about Dany going mad queen. It's certainly something Jorah spoke with her about and in her pov chapters she does worry about it.

Maybe Mellisandre's death and her last words will be the thing that tips her over the edge? She already refuses to listen to reason (eg sansa resting troops).

OneInAMillionYou · 09/05/2019 23:11

The discussions on this thread are better than the show itself at the moment! 😀

Thanks everyone for the collective agreement not to bring leaks/ spoilers onto the thread.

We know they are out there for anyone who wants to seek them out. I like this 'safe' space where we discuss the show episode by episode.

Agree OP.

NO SPOILERS!!!

OneInAMillionYou · 09/05/2019 23:51

I've watched the episode a few times now.

I am stricken with sadness at Arya saying she doesn't plan to return to Winterfell, when she is riding off with the Hound.

I know it means she is prepared to accept the end of her own life if she succeeds with her mission.

It choked me though, because the moment in S7 where she rides over the hill and sees Winterfell in the distance is my favourite ever moment in game of thrones. The concept of ' home' is so poignant.

We didn't see the sisters' reaction to Bran telling them about Jon (why the hell not, show runners?.😡)
However, I wonder if Arya's shock has led her to set off from Winterfell with no intention to return? She loves Jon more than any of them and she must be devastated, especially after their reunion when she told him not to forget they were family.

Arya was so young when her family was destroyed. Not only seeing Ned's execution, but arriving at The Red Wedding and seeing what they did to Robb. I think she feels 'the last of the Starks' more keenly than the others.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/05/2019 00:33

Perhaps Dany will end up being offed by her last dragon?
She could order the dragon to kill Jon and end up toast herself?

TitilatedOcelot · 10/05/2019 03:15

I thought that Daenerys giving Storm's End to Gendry might be to try and get Arya onside.

I think Jaime will kill Cersei, possibly sacrificing himself in the process. Given the references to earlier seasons, I wouldn't be surprised if his last words were "the things I do for love".

SheStoodInTheStorm · 10/05/2019 07:40

Place marking! This thread is so helpful to understand some of what's going on...however having only watched the show and not read the books some of it is complicated to understand!

Enjoy reading all your opinions though, thank you.
