Anyone watch?
Such an affecting programme
I felt so bad for the old woman when she was scared
But couldn't understand why she didn't go get hearing aids it would have improved her quality of life so much

Yes I watched this too! I couldn’t understand how the lady had managed to cope for so long in her own home as she was blind & almost deaf! Especially as her daughter could only come twice a week. Amazing that she’d coped for so long.

Found the story about the homeless man very sad too :(

And how shocking for the lady who had the baby in the hotel. Cannot begin to imagine the level of shock!

ChristineBaskets · 27/04/2019 10:15

I was so cross that the male hotel staff were hanging about in the room with the woman who had just given birth, while she was half dressed and being examined. I know there were cameras there but that felt different.

Clawdy · 27/04/2019 10:23

That homeless man trying to tuck the blanket round himself - very sad.It was rather thin, wasn't it? Then someone complained to the ambulance guy about them giving it to him!

Thetreeonthehill · 27/04/2019 10:35

Is it a new series?

purpleme12 · 27/04/2019 10:43

Yes

Thanks. I don’t know why but thought it was a repeat of last series.

Sleepycatinthesun · 27/04/2019 11:13

I thought the male hotel staff were hanging around unnecessarily too. You could see them checking out the bathroom and the floors and talking to one another.
They were probably annoyed at the blood and mess that would need to be cleaned.
I kept willing them to just bugger off, there was no need for them to be there.

Notverygrownup · 27/04/2019 11:15

Ooh when was this on? Missed it completely and love the programme

purpleme12 · 27/04/2019 11:19

It's on iPlayer

forevercurious · 27/04/2019 11:30

Was this the first episode of the new series? Not sure if I’ve missed any?

I did say to my DP I wonder if the lady received a huge cleaning bill from the hotel!

purpleme12 · 27/04/2019 12:32

Yes

The guy driving the ambulance that didn't know where he was going frustrated me. It's all very well him giggling about it but the quicker the better mate, come onHmm

flapjackfairy · 27/04/2019 21:21

I love this as well. I live in one of the areas that is frequently filmed so spend most of the time trying to work out where they are.

Also I have a child with v complex needs who often needs an ambulance so I am always looking out for familiar faces .
I have the utmost respect for all the ambulance crews and call operatives. They do an amazing job

Undies1990 · 27/04/2019 21:43

I thought it was a repeat too because the intro scenes were the same as the last series but luckily I stuck with it and yes, it's a new series! The lady giving birth in a hotel was a shock - I know it happens but really can't get my head around not knowing you are pregnant until you give birth Shock

pollyhampton · 27/04/2019 21:47

The poor girl giving birth, she said she'd done a pregnancy test at the GPs that morning which was negative?! Scary stuff.

purpleme12 · 27/04/2019 21:48

It's actually the same series but there was just a big break between the episodes it seems. So that's why the intro will be the same

I love this programme. I was the same about the hotel staff, how awful to have two random guys in your room moments after you've given birth! And I like that they highlight the social issues that impact on the ambulance service, the rising levels of homelessness etc. It's really shocking to see the conditions some people are living in.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 27/04/2019 21:50

I didn't think the staff were hanging round unnecessarily, if she'd died they would have had to have the police there. The mess has to be cleaned by professionals with the certification to deal with bodily fluids , it costs a bomb and they may have had to claim it on the insurance. There were also cameras there, hardly a cozy moment.

HappyMisfit · 27/04/2019 21:51

The guy with the gas canister... he said he does 10-15 cans a day? And has been doing so for about 22 years? How is he even alive?

HappyMisfit · 27/04/2019 21:55

The guy driving the ambulance that didn't know where he was going frustrated me. It's all very well him giggling about it but the quicker the better mate, come on

That did bug me a bit too. Having had experience of being in the back of an ambulance that didn’t know where it was going... It was a horrific feeling in a blue light situation.

Unescorted · 27/04/2019 22:04

Sux that part of Manchester was at the time of filming full of road works / temporarily closed roads. They were driving the wrong way down some of them, along tram tracks and where the sat nav's don't work. I see the ambulance crews doing an amazing job each and every day around Manchester CC - they are extraordinarily compassionate in very difficult circumstances, dealing with a really awful drug problem. Laughing at getting lost probably keeps them sane.

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/04/2019 22:06

Just watched now, agree with pp about the hotel staff.
I thought the ambulance responder (John?) seemed lovely, I hoped she'd go with Hermione for a name!

Felt really sad watching the elderly lady, really surprised she's managed so long living like that.

I have every respect for ambulance paramedics, such a hard job.

Sforsh49 · 28/04/2019 00:53

I've not watched it yet but if you look hard enough in iPlayer you might still find Ambulance Australia!! Full series!

goldenchicken · 28/04/2019 10:53

This was sooooo good. The guy sniffing gas canisters! Shock I thought that kind of thing was a thing of the past - like glue-sniffing!

Also, the poor lass giving birth. I thought she was 17-18, but I think she was 26, she just looked V. young. I felt sorry for her when she started to rupture/hemorrhage. She was OK though. Smile

As for the 90-something lady who was registered blind, and also had bad mobility problems, what a poor lamb. Sad I felt so sad for her. I felt her daughter and grandaughter got a rough time on twitter though; people were calling them heartless bitches for visiting 'only' twice a week.

For a start, the lady wanted to be independent and did not want anyone helping her, or 'strangers' in her house, like carers or 'home-helps.' And also, her daughter and grandaughter had busy lives - with jobs and kids, and they still went twice a week to see her, and were there ASAP if the lady needed them.

She was lying there for 8 hours before they found her sure enough, but that also happened to an elderly lady near me who has her daughter or son visiting every morning between 9 and 11am. (And some days they come between 6 and 7pm too for an hour.) She had fallen at 11pm, and was unable to get to a phone, and was lying there for 12 hours before anyone got to her. So it happens, when people live alone; whether their family visit every day, once or twice a week, or once or twice a month...

Some people from the older generation don't get visitors more than once a month (if they're lucky!) including their own family/offspring, so I think the daughter and grandaughter are probably doing their best tbh.
