Anyone watch?
Such an affecting programme
I felt so bad for the old woman when she was scared
But couldn't understand why she didn't go get hearing aids it would have improved her quality of life so much

Found Shirley's story tragic tonight, when Gordon was saying he went round to do all the checks Sad
Wonder what had happened to her.

Also wonder what happened to the man who had collapsed in the bathroom, there wasn't an update at the end?

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/05/2019 22:03

Is it bad that I fancy the paramedic with the beard?

Blush I do too.

CoolCarrie · 30/05/2019 22:16

Sadly Shirley died.

newcat12345 · 30/05/2019 22:20

What happened to the chap in tonight's episode with the stomach pains and vomiting?

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/05/2019 22:26

Sadly Shirley died.

Sorry, I meant I wonder what had happened to cause her death. Seemed like it was hard for them to diagnose though I know the paramedic said she assumed a head issue.

Hepzibar · 30/05/2019 22:35

Wonder why there was no update on the man who collapsed in bathroom? Am thinking if family allow story to be shown, then an update would be ok too? Hope he is ok

CoolCarrie · 30/05/2019 22:51

DH thought she had had a bleed on the brain.

KeplerExoplanets · 30/05/2019 22:55

Poor Shirley Sad

Clawdy · 31/05/2019 09:40

So sad when Shirley's husband said they had no family or relatives. And now he is completely alone. Sad

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 31/05/2019 16:30

I never usually watch this programme but watched last night and have spent most of the day worrying about how Gordon (Shirley's husband) is coping, and also the daughter of the elderly woman who had fallen.

TVname · 31/05/2019 20:15

I sobbed my way through, Gordon being left alone broke me to start with and then the steady stream of oldies kept me going. It's a great programme though.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/05/2019 20:59

I wanted to know if the attempted hanging person survived. I'd love to be a paramedic, but if never be able to think on my feet like that. I'll stick to being a nurse, surrounded by people and equipment! Total respect to ambulance crews.

AlexaAmbidextra · 31/05/2019 21:40

I cried at the old man who was deaf but didn’t wear his hearing aids. It reminded me of my dad who died last year. 😢

Toddlerteaplease · 31/05/2019 21:45

Was just watching ambulance Australia, they had a 90 year old in cardiac arrest in her garden. They resuscitated her but died in ICU later that day, I thought that it was terribly sad that she'd not had a peaceful death at home in her own garden.

ChoccyJules · 31/05/2019 22:02

There is a question about resuscitating when people are likely to die soon after or be at the end of their life - I know that in hospital they may have planned a DNR (or whatever it’s called now) but I guess on a 999 call the handler has no additional info.

I wondered about the person who was found hanged, it was surprising that they recommended trying resus, I assumed people found in that situation would have died.

This is really interesting, I've sometimes thought when I get older about getting a DNR tattoo as I'm not sure I'd want to be resuscitated past a certain point. I'm not sure a tattoo would help but otherwise I guess they'd do it anyway or rely on next of kin knowing their wishes?

I do love Ambulance but it upsets me so much. I had to get out a few years back the relentless pressure and bullying was to much, morale is rock bottom. Every person featured on this triggers a memory I have been at all these jobs over the years and at the time it doesn’t register but watching this I realised how deeply affected I am. My DH worked alongside me for many years. He’s had a 30 year career up to Management level until stress and eventually PTSD broke him.

AllGoodDogs · 31/05/2019 23:11

I love this show. Seems awful to say though, doesn't it.

The man who collapsed in the bathroom is OK now, but no more info. One of the producers posted it to twitter.

Sad they can't update on everyone... The man under the tram, the woman who's daughter was her carer etc.

purpleme12 · 31/05/2019 23:56

Bit of hard episode.
I thought seeing the in the bathroom, with how he was in the abundance was scary.
It was really sad about Shirley and her husband.

I wasn't sure sure how to take the man with the beard with how he was with his mate paramedic

@covetingthepreciousthings

Re the DNAR, I work in elderly care and a DNAR needs to be signed off by a GP who has had a discussion with the person and their family. They then have the pink sheet placed at the front of their care plan.

Ambulance crews always ask "is there a DNAR in place?" when they attend a call to a resident.

From a personal experience, my nan had one and was cared for at home. She also had a care plan and it was stated clearly on the front.

Won't cover everyone but I think where one is in place, it is known to the people around the patient who can then inform the ambulance crew.

In what way OP?

purpleme12 · 01/06/2019 07:43

Well he just seemed a bit snappy and insulting to me

YesQueen · 01/06/2019 07:45

@purpleme12 sense of humour difference Wink his crewmate is v dry/sarcastic so i imagine they get on well but it comes across weird to others!

prampushingdownthehighst · 01/06/2019 07:52

Very interesting programme and so very sad in places.
Gordon and Shirley was absolutely heart breaking to watch.
I found the bearded paramedic a bit of twat to be honest, going on and on about his breakfast.Just the sort of character I give a big swerve but that poor man was stuck with him.

ChristineBaskets · 01/06/2019 08:49

Yes I agree about the bearded paramedic too, he was unpleasant and a bit of a bully to his colleague.
