Anyone watch?
Such an affecting programme
I felt so bad for the old woman when she was scared
But couldn't understand why she didn't go get hearing aids it would have improved her quality of life so much

What a service! How absolutely awesome.

Hepzibar · 16/05/2019 21:09

Puts my 'pile of shit' day into perspective

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2019 21:23

The bloke who can't get his methadone does not need an ambulance!

LIZS · 16/05/2019 22:00

Bridget Sad

Clawdy · 16/05/2019 22:05

That was so sad, but so inspiring too. Love Gemma and Claire. Sad to see Bridget had died, she was so brave and funny.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2019 22:17

Bridget was the lady with the arm injury? Very sad.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2019 22:18

I was willing them not to take Arthur to hospital. Glad they didn't.

Walkerbean16 · 16/05/2019 23:03

I was shocked to see bridget had passed away, she was so vivacious.

IronManisnotDead · 17/05/2019 01:33

Just watched tn on catch up and was not expecting to see Bridget has passed alway. Lovely to see the 2 Paramedics were married. Brilliant programme.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/05/2019 07:49

Can anyone with inside paramedic knowledge answer something..

I'm always surprised on programs like this when husband & wife (like last night) are allowed to work together like that? My husband said maybe it's because they obviously showed they worked well together before they were together, so it could continue.
It must be really nice to have support like that when on traumatic calls, but just wondered if it's common.

YesQueen · 17/05/2019 08:21

@covetingthepreciousthings fairly common, happens in dispatch too. Sometimes dispatch marry control and vice versa, I've worked with a lot of people who are partners

CSIblonde · 17/05/2019 21:37

I'm always surprised in this & similar programmes that the endlessly patient despatchers never tell time wasters that their sore leg etc does not require an ambulance. They just say we're very busy & bung them on the active wait list. Would an on site Nurse be an idea to assess & siphon these callers off to a GP visit? I read a paramedics book "Blood, Sweat & Tea" & he was so frustrated at being called out for stuff like sprained ankles when theres a car driver in situ & car on the drive for a GP/Walk In trip.

Runkle · 17/05/2019 21:40

Bridget passed away from unrelated cancer 3 weeks before the programme aired. Her granddaughter posted on twitter, so sad 😭

YesQueen · 17/05/2019 21:43

@CSIblonde there is a script for if it's busy and it's minor which basically says call 111, we are too busy and you don't need an ambulance
There are on site clinicians, often mental health nurses etc etc
It's risk - people under and overestimate. I was told by a woman about her husband "he's a farmer and he's cut his hand". So ambulance sent, all fine I thought. Ten mins later "Er why didn't you mention the fact he was gored by a bull and had a sucking chest wound?"
My face was ShockHmmConfused

Then you get the ones having "chest pains" that actually have a hurt ankle Confused
People definition of blood pouring is very, very different as I learnt quickly!

CSIblonde · 17/05/2019 22:01

YesQueen
That's so interesting. Bloody hell re the gored farmer!! I can't remember if it was Ambulance but a 'frequent flyers' episode with a brain injured man who called daily because he was lonely was difficult watching. His social worker didn't seem much cop at suggesting anything to give him human contact & support either.

GenuineNonsense · 18/05/2019 12:04

@covetingthepreciousthings It happens all the time where I work. A large percentage of relationships are work related, we have a few husband and wife road crews.

As for being stood down for welfare after difficult jobs, there's no way a crew would go straight back on the road after something traumatic. We always welfare check them and send/make a manager aware, if they need to be stood down/debriefed etc they are made unavailable for as long as necessary.

Obviously this is very different at other services.

TVname · 30/05/2019 21:03

New series on now on bbc1

purpleme12 · 30/05/2019 21:06

It's been a new series for a while

OP posts:
CoolCarrie · 30/05/2019 21:08

It is a brand new series according to Radio Times, it wasn’t on last week.

TVname · 30/05/2019 21:12

I thought they'd finished the second half of the series that was showing acouple of weeks ago and this was totally new but not sure.

Yinyen · 30/05/2019 21:22

In Manchester paramedics used to get time between jobs. They don't anymore and the effects are beginning to show. I know lots of paramedics because of my work and the numbers off on stress and sadly who commit suicide or die young is awful. Avout 15 years ago people would have time in a shift to have a game of pool or

Yinyen · 30/05/2019 21:22

.... even a nap. Now they often don't have a break in 12 hours. Fucking Tories.

Hepzibar · 30/05/2019 21:23

Tram incident. Those firemen getting him out of there!

TVname · 30/05/2019 21:44

"I have had hearing aids but I'm okay now."
Bless him.

CallyMollyMindy · 30/05/2019 21:57

Is it bad that I fancy the paramedic with the beard?
