We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but usually only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

Right, I’m headed to bed. Very much looking forwards to regrouping tomorrow evening to compare notes on Her Private Life. So pleased Bea is now all caught up too, so we can have a proper post-episode chat.

gAH!!! It's all boatyard's fault I have just watched the first episode of My Princess with Him Off Black and feel like I have spent an hour reading Jackie

He is handsome though in spite of the well dodge hair

And there are a couple of yellow labs

So to summarise, second time around I got past 10 minutes but it is very lightweight and feels dated. However there may be a shower scene in ep 2 so I may have to persevere

I've actually been rewatching "While You Were Sleeping"... in 15 min bursts and it really is lovely! I just find LJS very engaging and I love how he plays Jae Chan... Plus bonus JHI... I think I must like the charming endearing lost playful puppy type! 😂

I feel it’s quite telling that our frequently praised MLs are now boiled down to their initials, but none of the FLs are in shorthand.

There are far fewer FLs that stand out though, whether that is down to the roles they are given or their lack of individuality is a moot point. I do tend to rate Park Min-Young, Gong Hyo-Jin, Park Bo-Young and the naughty ghost whose name escapes me. Also quite like the FL from Because TIMFL and the one from The Beauty Inside

I've thought about this often... how we tend to mention the ML more than the FL.... is this because of our own inbuilt "everday casual sexsim" or just a symthom of our shameless fangirling!

I have always notied Park Min Young... she's not neccesarily my favourite but I rate her and she does have a knack of appearing in good dramas... so she's noticable... as is Park Bo Young as I love love her in SGBS...

I rteally really liked Jun Ji Hyun - My Love Fronm Another Star (though I just had to look her up!) I thought she was fab going from spoily dim witted actress to heartbroken... I really rated her performance

Same with Seo Hyun Jin - The Beauty Inside - another FL I really enjoyed watching.

Han Hyo Joo - W was a brilliant pairning with LJS ... The both of them really drew me in and thus W is one of my all time favourites...

There... feels like We've levelled the playing field a little... !

apologies I didn't check for my typos!... there's a scene in SGBS which is my all time favourite... which i think PBY is just perfect... I'll try and find!

also thinking about it ... I tend to remember the good pairings I suppose...

it's the opening scene of EP 12 where they're sharing noodles....

I just think they're both hilarious... how they play off one another... I read in this scene as well they were improvising and you can see Park Bo Young just glancing at the camera as she wants to laugh but they obviously carried on with the scene... I know SGBS is not to everyones tatse (as it is sooo far out there!) but the pairing !!!....

That's a good point about the pairings Bea, you do tend to remember the couples that have good chemistry. Park Min-Young seems to have good chemistry with them all though . She's also good at comedy.

Secretary... Good fluff!... Episodes are 30 mins... And 1st ep really jumped into storyline in a flash!... Felt like I was on ep3 of a regular kdrama hour!... Feels a little thrown into the deep end! Definitely no easing yourself in! Bam! Here's the story!!... Got the usual demanding boss and running around secretary... (Boatyard! You may bristle!)... But it's a drama!... I just go with it!!... There's a total 4 eps up so might take it slow!... I've leapt into an "on air" one again! Arrrgh! 😂 😱😩😡

I like the FL in Last Empress/Happy Once Again, Jang Na Ra. She seems to have good chemistry with all the MLs I’ve seen her paired with, she’s funny and doesn’t seem to mind making a tit of herself to further the plot.

I also have a soft spot for Han Hyo Joo, LJS’s sidekick in RITBB and W. I’d like too her do comedy to see how versatile she is as she mainly gets cast as hardnut lady bosses.

Oh yes Jang Na Ra, she is v good too.

4% subs and I have a glass of wine lined up ready to go. If there’s no more by the time dinners over I may have to just go with it!

I have to go out in a bit and won’t be home until 9.30ish. I have every confidence the subbers will have worked their magic by then.

Hi ladies, just to say how much I've enjoyed reading this super long chat.

I got into Korean drama through my dd13 who watches anime, then we watched Good Morning Call, (Japanese) Accidentally in Love (Chinese), Love 020(Chinese series - not the film) and then Romance is a Bonus Book.

We are now hooked on Korean shows and your suggestions have been really helpful. Watched W with dd, watching it again with dh.

Also enjoyed Warm and Cosy, mostly enjoyed Marriage Contract (but the cute little girl is what kept me watching and I very nearly didn't watch it all -vv full of melodrama and some characters I really disliked) and watching I Hear Your Voice by myself atm as dd wanted to watch 'Boys over Flowers' instead of another LJS. I think I'll get to watch it again with her though as it's on her list.

I don't think anyone has mentioned how often they talk with their mouth full?

Loving all the piggy backs and wrist grabs etc, but rankling a bit at the lack of feminism and comments about image/beauty.

Also loving how many male leads seen to cook, and even vacuum RIABB.

Talking of vacuuming I just started watching Cleaning is a passion for now. Very weird so far. I am also enjoying the Maangchi cooking YouTube channel.

Great to hear from you and what you have been watching. I Hear Your Voice is one of my absolute favourites. Haven't seen Clean with Passion For Now (where do they get these titles from?) but it has Toasty LYS's brother from Pinocchio in I think. I loved LYS 's manly housework in RIABB.
