Oh no i understand! I was trying to work out who they'd killed.

Damn i was about to astound you all with my deduction that Hargreaves was H.

longwayoff · 26/04/2019 21:58

Late news for previous posters seven series of The Shield on All4. Free!!!

BoldMeDontAtMe · 26/04/2019 22:19

Just watched episode one of Shield. DH and I both thought it was crap. Sorry.

WhoWants2Know · 27/04/2019 00:31

I've gotten quite into the Shield, but it's a bit of a shock to the system after the polite "I'll respond within the regulation 10 days" of LOD.

The vandal who painted HOE on his ex's front door and then changed it to SHOE when he got back with her, set me howling 😂.

BitOfFun · 27/04/2019 05:45

Right, I've listened again to the phone call between John Corbett and his wife. The actress' Liverpool accent is pretty abysmal, but she DEFINATELY says "Anne-Marie", and it's just after John says "Did they ask about my mum?"

BitOfFun · 27/04/2019 05:55

Faux Scouse Wife: "They was even asking about family over there."
John Corbett: "Did they know anything? Anything of my mum or anything?"
Faux Scouse Wife: "No, nothing."
John Corbett: "So what did you say?"
Faux Scouse Wife: "You know I'd never say nothing."
John Corbett: "No, it's alright, I know you wouldn't."
Faux Scouse Wife: "What's this all about? Do they know about Anne-Marie?"
John Corbett: "No, you know I can't talk about the job."

MintyT · 27/04/2019 06:11

What if H stands for "Her" just saying

NotMyPuppy · 27/04/2019 06:48

Have you seen the preview clip for Sunday on bbc? Very interesting! Not sure if it counts as a spoiler given it’s been put out?

BitOfFun · 27/04/2019 06:59

Have you got a link for that, NotMyPuppy?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 07:50

BoldMe believe me, I didn’t love the pilot either when I first saw it. Until the last 60 seconds, I thought it was a pretty bog standard cop show at first but the end of the pilot got me interested enough to stick with it. After a few episodes I started to get fascinated by a few of the characters (not so much the strike team at this point, although their characters become a lot more interesting as s1 goes on, but Dutch and Claudette especially).

Thing with The Shield is, it’s basically a Greek tragedy, and it starts with everything being good, there’s little jeopardy, but then the little bits of corruption here and there gradually turn into outright criminality in massive ways, and what comes after that is absolutely bloody amazing, but you need the build up of the series that have gone before. There are two episodes in this programme that are the most devastating things I’ve ever seen on TV, but if I told you to watch them now they wouldn’t mean anything.

Sorry. I just really REALLY love The Shield. I’d take The Shield over any other TV series - it has its moments that aren’t perfect, and the early episodes are among them for sure, but once the train gets going, we were up until 4am every morning burning through them because we couldn’t stop 😂

WhoWants so glad you’re into it - trust me, it’s only going to get better! That plot line is so funny, with all the back and forth. Brilliant. I shan’t spoil where it goes ;) I’m so envious you’re getting to see it all fresh. Be prepared for some late nights!

Yeah, it makes you realise that the corruption in LoD is all very polite and British. Even the raid a few episodes ago was just so tame compared to some of the stuff that’s coming up. Enjoy!

BitOfFun thank you! That’s exactly what I thought it was too.

Piggywaspushed · 27/04/2019 07:51

Thank you bitof. You'll still get people saying they heard our Grin

Piggywaspushed · 27/04/2019 07:51

It's like that Yanny thing!!

pepperpot99 · 27/04/2019 07:52

I am intrigued by the Chicken Licken theory and yes I agree it must have some significance.

Wasn't there another reference to a fairy tale though? Sam says something to Steve in the car after she kisses him, " by the hairs of your chinny-chin-chin". Isn't that a Three Little Pigs allusion? And of course all OCG members routinely refer to police as 'pigs' don't they?

Who are the Three Little Pigs? - Steve, Kate and who else? Shock?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 07:55

Yes pepper - as soon as she said that, I turned to DH and said “what the fuck was that?!* - it was SO weird and out of place, and made no sense whatsoever.

pepperpot99 · 27/04/2019 08:09

Agreed SinkGirl, there is a reason Sam has been cosying up to Steve after all this time. Hmmm......could they be codewords? thinking about the Ulster connection, the IRA always used recognised codewords when dealing with the RUC I think.

I feel like there is a 'children' theme in this series: Kate's son, Corbett's two daughters, Corbett being adopted as a child. Could the fairy story quotes connect here somehow?

I am driving myself bonkers with all of this.....

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 08:38

Me too, I dreamt about LoD the other day. I’m losing the plot 😂

Can anyone remember - IIRC Sam said that random line straight after Steve said he would call her? Does anyone have any idea why she’d say that? It was so odd. I felt quite sorry for the actress!

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 08:39

I still think everything has to tie back into the list and child abuse ring, but they’ve completely ignored the list since they got it!

captainpantbeard · 27/04/2019 09:00

Maybe Ted had an affair with Anne Marie...?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 09:10

That was my first thought too - Ted is either responsible for the father’s death, had an affair with the mother, or the father (very unlikely).

The way it’s phrased though, whether they asked about his mum, implies she’s more involved than just being his mum...

Is Gill his mum? 😳😂

helzapoppin2 · 27/04/2019 10:11

At her age?

beanaseireann · 27/04/2019 10:13

There was a scandal involving a boys home in Northern Ireland, involving, supposedly police cover up. Sad
I don't know enough about it to comment.
It was the Kincora Boys home. It closed in 1980.
But Ted and Corbet would be too young for it to be part of this storyline.

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 10:32

She was a very young mum 😂

DarlingNikita · 27/04/2019 10:33

IIRC Sam said that random line straight after Steve said he would call her? Does anyone have any idea why she’d say that?

Well, she meant 'Yeah right, you're not going to call me.' I assume he's been keeping his distance since their relationship fizzled, and she just doesn't really believe that he's going to start it up again (although she hopes he is).

But the wording was a bit weird. I agree there seems to be a theme of childhood and fairy tales in this series. Surely the significance of it all will become clear.

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 10:35

I figured that’s what she meant, but I’m not sure why it would mean that! I mean, that’s not how it’s used in the context of 3 little pigs is it? I just thought it was very strange.

Italiangreyhound · 27/04/2019 10:39

SinkGirl is there any graphic violence in the sheld. Please? I can't watch rsoe, torure etc.

O knke's sllifed to and briefly seen in LoD but LoD is like the top end of what I can cope with!
