Ahh, York Rise! I knew I recognised the grey building opposite the cafe, I just couldn't place the street. Thank you ThanksItHasPockets

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 05/04/2019 07:35

Thanks thanks, great article.

merrymouse · 05/04/2019 07:43

oh absolutely but I think things like the priest being the peado brother or FB and the bank manager getting together are looking for story lines that just aren't there.

Agree - I think it's supposed to raise questions - but it's also very tightly written. E.g PWB didn't just suddenly decide to talk about hair in ep 5 - We know from series 1 and 2 that Claire changes her appearance when she feels emotionally unsettled and they have been talking about hair throughout series 2. I can't predict the ending and clearly we all have different perspectives on what it should be, but the most disappointing would be a random twist that comes out of nowhere - but why would PWB do that?

SansaryaAgain · 05/04/2019 07:45

I used to live near Dartmouth Park and thought the locations looked familiar. I've seen Fleabag's dad (Bill Patterson?) out and about a few times as he must live nearby. Dare me to exclaim "What.... a... CUNT" next time I see him?!?

Connieston · 05/04/2019 08:07

I agree RuffleCrow and Boo hasn't appeared in the present before, as far as I know. It was a very sinister look.

Connieston · 05/04/2019 08:08

SansaryaAgain oh of all the catchphrases to get stuck with!! 😹

RuffleCrow · 05/04/2019 09:20

I find myself getting so frustrated with the Dad character - probably because he's very much like my own father. Grow a backbone, man! I know he's grieving but i get the impression he wasn't much different before their mum died.

The80sweregreat · 05/04/2019 09:22

The dad is annoying - he let this woman walk all over him.
happens though - some men just need a partner again after their partner has died or they divorce or whatever. They are more needy and some women can then pounce on them! ( especially if they have a few bob in the bank. that helps)

VeronicaDinner · 05/04/2019 10:25

When she said at the beginning, this is a love story, she could be referring to Claire instead of herself. She is wiping off blood from defending Claire after all.

HelicopteringBastard · 05/04/2019 10:29

The dad never even properly articulates a thought, leaves everything to inference, its driving me mad - excellent writing! Grin

The80sweregreat · 05/04/2019 10:40

This dad is a carbon copy of so many weak men that are around everywhere!

howmanyleftfeet · 05/04/2019 11:00

He's better at whole sentences in the funeral flashback.

Is GM / STB-SM making him worse? Might he break free of her and actually finish a sentence?!

The80sweregreat · 05/04/2019 11:16

Dad has been taken in by the poisonous women! Women like her are so manipulative.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/04/2019 11:36

Well yes, some women can be horribly manipulative. But I think we have to give him some agency - he's chosen to take the path of least resistance

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/04/2019 11:37

Sorry, posted to soon. He's taken the path of least resistance even knowing it alienates his daughters. In the funeral flashback he seemed much warmer to FB.

It occurred to me this morning that this second series of Fleabag would be interesting watched alongside the BBC series Rev from a few years ago. Zero erotica but a similarly bleak comic tone, and instead of the direct connection with the audience we hear the protagonist’s internal monologue as his prayers. Also featuring the wonderful Olivia Colman, of course.

pancaketosser · 05/04/2019 12:22

Just caught up, loved it.

I think my favourite line was "he kept the pinny".

HalfWomanHalfCake · 05/04/2019 12:26

I will be bereft when this finishes. Love it so much.

Positive note - Just heard that AS will be a guest on Simon Mayo’s Scala Radio show next Thurs 💛

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/apr/05/it-is-complete-final-episode-of-fleabag-to-air-on-monday

Siân Clifford (Claire) confirms that there definitely won’t be a third series. It sounds like the the ending will be very final in some way.

RuffleCrow · 05/04/2019 12:47

Maybe the dad will leave OC and learn to...er...articulate a....

maeb · 05/04/2019 12:47

This Guardian article confirms this will be the last Fleabag episode ever Shock. No spoilers though.

I imagine it will be similar to the meal in the first episode, initial calm followed by truth bombs and then chaos. I just hope it leaves the possibility of a future for HP & FB...

maeb · 05/04/2019 12:48

Sorry Pockets, I'm just repeating your post!

RuffleCrow · 05/04/2019 12:56

The way Martin is going, real bombs wouldn't surprise me. Sad he's extremely volatile.

HelicopteringBastard · 05/04/2019 13:42

Omg.....i cant live without fleabag Sad

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/04/2019 13:44

I'm just rewatching the episode with Kirsten Scott Thomas and wondering if her "are you a lesbian" line was a deliberate Four Weddings and a Funeral reference? IIRC her character is asked the same by an elderly wedding guest.
