Romantic in the literary form not cheeso crap

The80sweregreat · 05/04/2019 22:19

I wonder if she will tell HP about Boo and he will freak out? Find it hard to forgive her or understand what happened?

I also believe the wedding will be a disaster and I bet 'soon to be step mums ' dress is hideous!

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2019 22:27

Three degrees in literature and I'm not a romantic in any sense of the word.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 05/04/2019 22:56

Aww showifhands ahhh sorry show I'm grasping at straws here because PWB said FB is a romantic so I want it to be so!

RuffleCrow · 05/04/2019 23:04

I get the impression she's a romantic in the broader sense: looking for a deeper meaning in the world around her, rather than in the boy-meets-girl sense.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 05/04/2019 23:08

Yes ruffle that's what I meant but I'm not articulate enough to say it properly! Thank you

howmanyleftfeet · 06/04/2019 01:15

Why aren't there more interviews with the cast of Fleabag?

I want to hear from PWB and all of the cast, talking about the series. Why aren't they all over TV?!!

howmanyleftfeet · 06/04/2019 01:18

Does it come out later on Amazon, is that right? Maybe we'll get some interviews then, if they promote it?

HoraceCope · 06/04/2019 06:25

PWB is in america, performing the original show.

RuffleCrow · 06/04/2019 08:29

Oh gosh, i hope America doesn't steal her! Not that it makes a great deal of difference but British actors and writers never quite seem to regain their edge once they've been Hollywooded - look at Simon Pegg! And Christian Bale even lost his accent Sad

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/04/2019 13:41

Roll on Monday....

ThanksItHasPockets · 06/04/2019 15:19

The Fleabag Instagram account (@bbcfleabag) has posted a still from Monday’s episode. I won’t describe but it’s there if you want to see it!

maeb · 06/04/2019 15:53
so shouldn't be spoiler-y. We've seen everything except one snippet of a scene....I have absolutely no idea what it could be about so I don't know why I have a bad feeling about it Confused

Anyway I haven't felt this way about a tv show since Buffy!! Blush

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 06/04/2019 15:56

I can honestly say I’ve never been so invested in the conclusion of a series ever.

Not even Line of Duty.

I had a totally balls night’s sleep last night and was up thinking about this at every juncture.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 06/04/2019 16:14

Me too. It's wonderful. I'm so pleased I've got my best friend watching the whole of series 2 today she's in love with it and my 70yr old mum mentioned it to me today because her best friend keeps going on about it. She is going to binge watch it tonight.

noblegiraffe · 06/04/2019 16:24

they made quite a big thing about her giving FB her card.

I think that was set up to annoy Claire. Fleabag stole her evening, she put her joke in Claire’s head, and even when she fucked up the award, she charmed the Woman of the Year (who Claire finds difficult) into giving her her card. No wonder Claire was pissed off.

Pengrin · 06/04/2019 16:27

I wonder if the dad will leave everything to FB as he and OC will be moving to the new house in France.

OC will lose her shit and ruin the wedding.

Hilary and Stephanie will get a nice big garden.

I’ve given up on trying to figure out what will happen with HP.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/04/2019 16:30

I have a feeling there will be something heartbreakingly sad... but at least not trite and easy.

RuffleCrow · 06/04/2019 16:31

Rosemary it's giving me such a warm glow to think of so many generations of women being so inspired by a female-gaze, female-written show that's so incredibly honest. Smile

ComputerSaysMo · 06/04/2019 16:44

Also loving this. I’ve watched this season back from the beginning because I am suddenly obsessed. Blush

I noticed something interesting in the first episode during the family dinner party that I’d not especially picked up before. Throughout the whole dinner, the Evil Godmother is dominating the interactions. The father is stammering and easily cowed, Martin and Claire are playing happy couples, and Fleabag is clearly “outside” the family dynamics (though the priest keeps trying to draw her in).

At one point Martin asks Hot Priest if it’s usual to join in with family dinners with couples he’s going to marry. He tells them it’s not, but he’s new to the parish and “really fucking lonely.”

Shortly after he mentions that his deceased predecessor was a really great, dedicated priest. (There’s a suggestion here that Fleabag’s question - “Are you a real priest? - is still resonating in him.) He is clearly a bit moved by the idea of the other priest’s dedication. Fleabag is looking at him really searchingly as he says this. Their chemistry has been noticeably building up to this point, and they are asking each other questions and starting to hold each other’s eye a bit as they speak - technically speaking to the whole group, but increasing focussing in each other.

The interesting bit is that Evil Godmother clearly notices their growing rapport right at this point. Coleman conveys this exquisitely, with just her eyes and a slight tightening of her expression.) She makes a bit of a point of jumping in and claiming back the priest’s attention immediately, all smiles and overbearing charm.

So, just throwing this out there - was she just pissed off to not be the centre of everyone’s attention for a moment, or did she actually pick up on their mutual attraction?

RuffleCrow · 06/04/2019 17:04

I'm just about to rewatch that episode computer.

I don't think much really gets past the godmother to be honest. She has an artist's eye for detail and the narcissist's knack for reducing everything she observes down to how it will affect or reflect on her. The priest's attractiveness won't have escaped her and she'll try to make FB pay somehow.

The80sweregreat · 06/04/2019 17:11

I think that evil stepmother will make the priest pay a lot for not marrying them!
She won't let that drop.

RuffleCrow · 06/04/2019 17:34

Rewatching S2 e1 again. HP is into FB from the word go: following her outside for a smoke, constantly topping up her wine glass etc.

ComputerSaysMo · 06/04/2019 17:42

Yes, I noticed that Ruffle. Initially I thought he was just bringing her into the conversation, but as it becomes clear that she’s an outsider in her own family his interest in her grows.

I wonder if her awful family dynamic was something he recognised.

ComputerSaysMo · 06/04/2019 17:43

...or he’s doubting his faith from the start and just happens to make incredibly bad choices for a man who’s decided to be celibate.
