Ugly house to lovely house

Just watching this. They had a budget of 150k, but the final cost was 350k! Aargh, what? And George Clarke said the architect did a good job. Lovely build it may be, but how can being so much over budget be a good job?
I never know where people get the extra money they suddenly have to unexpectedly fork out.either.

Hopefully the program contributes a shedload of money towards the cost.

Still18atheart · 22/03/2019 12:34

Liked the orange windows Blush just think how easy it would be for giving directions. “House at the end with the orange windows”. what I didn’t like was how the lounge was in a corridor imagine trying to watch tele and everyone blocking the view walking back and forth. Also sofa didn’t look that comfy. Liked the kitchen tiles especially how they curved but not sure how practical grout in the sink is?!?

SapatSea · 22/03/2019 18:45

Very hard water in London, nightmare to keep grout and taps free of it.

SapatSea · 22/03/2019 18:47

Wouldn't the sink chip easily with tiles in it? It would be useless in my house with teenagers chucking big metal pans in it.

icelolly99 · 23/03/2019 13:38

I'd like to know whether the flooring was wood or textured vinyl (posh lino).....does anyone know.

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2019 20:12

What’s the bet, that this will be massively over budget & covered in grey cladding.

SimonJT · 28/03/2019 20:14

I am loving the shower in todays property!

Sweetheart1313 · 28/03/2019 20:16

That shower is brilliant 😂

theliverpoolone · 28/03/2019 20:19

Why do people buy these houses, when they dislike everything about them?!

Sweetheart1313 · 28/03/2019 20:29

@theliverpoolone I think people buy 60s and 70s houses because of the plot and/or house size. I've got a 70s house, looks ugly as sin on the outside but so much space inside, especially for a semi in this area. Luckily no jack and jill shower in my houseGrin

Msgiggles30 · 28/03/2019 20:40

Is it just me or does anyone else find the presenter quite rude at times? On a few episodes hes spoken patronisingly to the families or been really rude about the house!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 28/03/2019 21:06

Yep. I've gone right off monotone George Clarke. You can hear him reading the script and trying to vary his monotone.

All I really want to say is, THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS ? No comment on what the house is worth now, of course.

They actually spent that amount of money on an extension and a fairly ugly bedroom and en-suite. Those kitchen/diner/living rooms aren't to my taste anyway. In ten years time there'll be another George Clarke putting the walls back in.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 28/03/2019 21:07

I like the house this week. I like the red tile. No awful grey cladding for once! It blends in well in the road and is a proper practical family home. The only thing s that there doesn't seem to be access to the back garden from the front without going through the house, unless it's invisible, not great with kids and bikes etc

SimonJT · 28/03/2019 21:10

I thought that about the garden as well. Where do these people get their money from?! They always put my teeny tiny flat to shame.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 28/03/2019 21:16

With that size of budget, why didn't they move ?

CoolShoeshine · 28/03/2019 21:41

Eww I didn’t think it blended on with the road at all! Best the neighbours were pissed off it stood out like a massive sore thumb with no hedge to conceal it a bit. However good house inside but they could have got a similar effect cheaper if they left out the poncy touches like the “roof lantern 4x average size”. They should rename it “ugly house to overspend”

longearedbat · 28/03/2019 22:25

I would love to know where the extra money comes from for these projects(on top of the usually generous budget). I mean, nearly everyone has borrowings limited by their income, so how do they manage it? It will always be a mystery to me.

Loved the master bedroom in this one. Colours were gorgeous.
Does anyone else look at all the stylish recessed skirting boards/door frames and the bit up the stairs and think they are a bloody dust trap?

LarryGreysonsDoor · 28/03/2019 23:47

Oooh is there a new series?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/03/2019 07:04

The couple last night were young with two small kids, I’d love to know how they afforded that!

SchoolQuestionChange · 30/03/2019 10:52

I had a google of them afterwards and they have an accessories website. Must be doing well if they can afford that

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 31/03/2019 17:13

One of the things I hate most about this programme is George Clarke’s curly top lip

Ugly house to lovely house
LarryGreysonsDoor · 31/03/2019 21:33

I’ve binged watched today.

I liked the interior of the house with the orange windows but I thought that the grey was a bit too much.

I loved the tiled house but I really want to know where they get their money from. Selling stuff online can’t earn that much.

nowifi · 31/03/2019 21:46

I agree, these people are living in a different world if they can just pluck 300k from thin air!

It's all good having high ceilings but they do look a bit cold, give me a low ceiling any day in my 3 bed semi!

LarryGreysonsDoor · 03/04/2019 21:12

I’m confused.

I’m watching it in Channel 4 player and it’s an upside down house. Is this one an old one I’m watching by mistake?
