Anybody else planning to watch tonight? Part 1 of 2, 9pm, Channel 4.

I'm very intrigued to watch. I remember the Martin Bashir documentary being aired years ago, and the various backlashes/criticisms that happened afterwards.

OP posts:

Mark Lester called the child with cancer that MJ befriended as 'Cancer boy'.

He is a parasite.

Hughes12345 · 09/03/2019 18:49

To anyone still in the fence-if you haven’t seen the Oprah Winfrey interview, I urge you to watch it. No doubt on my mind after seeing that. James in particular came across as a broken man. I found it very moving.

hellomylovely · 09/03/2019 18:50

Where can I watch the Oprah interview please?

PickledLimes · 09/03/2019 18:52

You can watch it here.

Hughes12345 · 09/03/2019 18:53

HowlsMovingBungalow yes! I was appalled by that too.

Also the loose women segment when Gloria Hunniford kept saying she didn’t see the purpose in them coming out and talking about it now. Very upsetting.

dragonflyinn10 · 09/03/2019 18:53

We're abouts is the Oprah interview ?? Perhaps it's when they had their own kids it kicked in that protection factor

certainlymerry · 09/03/2019 18:54

To those who doubt the truth of the claims made by these two men, I would ask what do you think they gain from orchestrating complex lies which involve their wives and families, and which their children will have to know about in time? The obvious answer is money. If it were money, do you really truly believe that they would lie about such painful, shameful and difficult feelings which have devastated their nearest and mothers, for money? How easy do you think it would be to get into the head of a child in the situations they describe, so very convincingly?

They would have to be the most cold blooded, venal people imaginable. No amount of money would compensate for lying to EVERYONE, including their wives and families, their friends and basically the whole world. The idea is ludicrous.
It is totally under stable that it has taken them so long to confront their feelings and try to come to terms with what has happened to them. It is obviously that they both still feel very conflicted and confused in themselves. Talking about being 'in love' and 'having sex' with a man when they were young children. Still in some part looking up to and adoring this man who dominated and controlled their lives for years. It's sickening.

certainlymerry · 09/03/2019 18:57

Hughes, Lester is obviously completely in denial. His comments and demeanour were beyond strange. I also find Paris' comments very perplexing.

mysticpizza · 09/03/2019 18:58

I think there's a huge overlap between the kind of people easily lured into cults and the kind of parents who are easily manipulated by paedophiles

And what kind of parent might that be, eh? Do spell it out for those of us with a vested interest.

PickledLimes · 09/03/2019 18:59

I can't bear Gloria Hunniford on a good day. Now she's just given me even more reason to dislike her.

Hughes12345 · 09/03/2019 19:00

I also find it upsetting that these men are getting pulled apart for any and every discrepancy in their accounts. They explain the mental anguish they’ve both been in for decades. It’s not clear cut, it’s a long drawn out process of recovery, memories will be blurred. Realising they were abused wouldn’t have been a light bulb moment. James explains that he told his mum Jackson was a ‘bad man’ but went into no further detail until Wade came forward. I expect his mum filled in the blanks. He said in the Oprah interview he felt guilt and that he’d let Jackson down by talking even now, after the documentary. He’s only at the very beginning of this road so he should be forgiven if his account can be open to misinterpretation.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/03/2019 19:01

Oh and to be extra clear, I am not an apologist - I have given arguments and counter-arguments across both threads as it comes down to witness testimony on historic sexual abuse as new evidence versus legal burden of proof. Once someone has died, you can say what you like with no comeback apart from death threats from the fandom which is why in the UK McAlpine had recourse but Brittan didn't. Having been on the exaro threads, I do wish the Westminster paedophile ring was getting as much traction as the Jackson case.

Hughes12345 · 09/03/2019 19:02

dragonflyinn10 they both go into detail in the Oprah interview about the impact having little boys had on them.

grumiosmum · 09/03/2019 19:04

Gloria Hunniford is best mates with Cliff Richard.

Just saying.

ccmrob12 · 09/03/2019 19:04

@Smoggle that’s not what Oprah asked him, check the interview yourself. She asked him very clearly, when did you first know what he did was wrong and not love. James clearly said when Wade came out. Yet as rage points out he claimed to know before that, at least 8 years before.

At the end of the day, justice and the right thing is what most people would want if there were in the same situation, myself included. Not money or when it is safe to submit a complaint.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/03/2019 19:07

I can't think of Gloria without thinking of Caron though Sad

Hughes12345 · 09/03/2019 19:08

If that bastard had abused me I’d want a wedge of money! I’d want money to pay for my life long therapy, I’d want money to pay for my wife’s therapy, for my mum’s therapy, for my children’s therapy, for their children’s therapy, for my sister and brother’s therapy. I’d want money to pay my bills when I’m so mentally scared I can’t get out of bed to work in the morning and I’d want my day in court.

hellomylovely · 09/03/2019 19:09

I've just read that they may exhume Michael Jackson's body for dna sampling.on

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/03/2019 19:10

And Cliff Richard was never arrested nor charged despite his annual calendars

teyem · 09/03/2019 19:12

Those who have a deep desire to be marked out as special. Those who have a poor sense of self and fill the gaps with the flattery of an abuser or a group of people who have a very clear sense of self. Those who have black and white thinking to solidify the 'us' versus 'them' dichotomy and those able to shelve doubts to maintain the purity of their flatterer.

PickledLimes · 09/03/2019 19:13

I don't see why they shouldn't have or want money either. I sued for a physical injury that left me with a life long impairment. Why shouldn't the trauma and devastation of child abuse be just as worthy of compensation. No it can't change the past but that's true of physical injury too. There are other considerations.

Hushnownobodycares · 09/03/2019 19:15

There are now reports of new victims coming forward.

Could this become the USA's Savile moment?

Starlight456 · 09/03/2019 19:19

I wasn’t sure after 1st half of the documentary by the end of the second I believed them all.

I hope the men find some peace some way

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/03/2019 19:30

If there are 11 new accusers then yes it could.
Savile's victims ended up being in the hundreds but started off with 10.

mysticpizza · 09/03/2019 19:35

So self absorbed, gullible and thick then.

Well aren't they just begging for it? Hmm
