The thread is full.

The virus is spreading will Holby be ok?!

I wonder why Jan isn't main cast yet. In the credits she always appears with the patients of the week. That's usually reserved for someone only staying temporarily, like that receptionist a few years ago when Louise went into nursing.

Di Botcher has been in every episode for weeks on weeks and shows no signs of leaving, it doesn't seem very far that she's still not main cast.

WelcomeToGreenvale · 06/05/2019 03:07

*fair

Acis · 06/05/2019 03:54

However, in a possible first, a member of staff gives notice. Only two weeks, mind you, rather than the more common one month/four weeks, but let’s not get too picky...

Wouldn't it be something like three months at consultant level?

Mind you, looks like they're going to follow the grand old Holby tradition of offering the job to the locum doctor, none of that nonsense about inviting applications, holding interviews, taking references etc for them.

AGnu · 06/05/2019 08:34

In theory, I'm all for people with early dementia taking ownership of it & feeling empowered but... She's a nurse, has shown she has difficulty controlling her behaviour & memory loss at times - she can't be left unsupervised to give people medication. That's just dangerous. Also, it's utterly unprofessional for her to be announcing her diagnosis to all & sundry constantly. Sure, maybe her colleagues need to know so they can keep an eye on her but that can be done quietly in the staff room, not loudly in the middle of the ED. She can tell her friends on her own time if she wants emotional support. But telling a patient's relative?! Seriously?! Patients don't need to know any personal details about their doctors/nurses. If they've been assessed as fit to work, that's all that matters. If they're fit to work but on light duties if, for example, they've got a bad back & someone needs moving, they just apologise & say they're not able to move them but they'll go grab someone who can. No specifics, no details of personal medical information & definitely not anything that might give someone perfectly valid cause for concern over your competency to treat their child!

Sorry, I'll stop ranting now... It just bugs me, all the unnecessary oversharing with patients. If the NHS were really like that the waiting times would be even worse than they actually are!

Isitmybathtimeyet · 06/05/2019 08:40

The whole thing is ridiculous, innit?

I may not have been paying attention. So they had interviews for the random consultant position which the locum missed, and presumably the other new registrar will get that? And then the locum is given Elle’s job?

RedForShort · 06/05/2019 09:07

Locum will be running the NHS whist still doctoring in A&E by next month.

He's an irritating character. Quite like didn't attend induction doctor in comparison to him.

I like the locum

SoupDragon · 06/05/2019 09:20

Did Duffy get a definite diagnosis or was it an "I'm fairly sur you have,..." type diagnosis? I remember her being told it was probably dementia but not the official definite diagnosis.

Pixel99 · 06/05/2019 09:41

Not a fan here of Gem and Rash - I find both characters really annoying. I'm hoping she joins him on Rash's travels very soon. Would like to see more Ian / Ruby and Jan like other pp.

purpleme12 · 06/05/2019 09:44

I don't think it showed the actual diagnosis but I think that was conveying that she had got it. I never thought it was going to be a storyline where she got the wrong end of the stick

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 06/05/2019 09:46

"Missed Induction" doctor (Archie) didn't get the consultant position the other week - failed the interview. There was some discussion along the lines of "no suitable applicants", so they just kind of brushed over it. Basically, I think there ought to be two consultant positions, if the previous one was in addition to Elle, but they're fairly well stocked for consultants, so none of it really makes sense!

SoupDragon · 06/05/2019 11:58

Employees in Holby hospital have a knack of recovering or not having the Terrible Disease though. Even the patients often have some weird thing that causes similar symptoms to a Terrible Disease.

It isn't so much the wrong end of the stick though, I just dont remember the consultant actually stating she definitely had it.

SoupDragon · 06/05/2019 11:58

(And she already seems much improved! 😂)

SoupDragon · 06/05/2019 11:59

I find the locus an arrogant up-his-own-arse twat. One fake prom hasn't redeemed him in my eyes' he has a way to go!

SoupDragon · 06/05/2019 12:00

Locum.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/05/2019 14:24

I agree with AGnu's rant completely. It may be an uncomfortable truth, but I would be profoundly uneasy if my child were being treated by someone with dementia. Or if I was, tbh.

Jan is by far my favourite character and deserves much more time. I'd watch a show about the three paramedics plus Dylan very happily.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 06/05/2019 16:33

Same here but also with the odd bit of Connie thrown in.

ISaySteadyOn · 06/05/2019 20:05

Agreed

bakedbeanzontoast · 07/05/2019 06:32

@TracyBeakerSoYeah I concur!

SoupDragon · 07/05/2019 07:37

It looks like they are slowly building Jan up as a character. They never really replaced Dixie.

megletthesecond · 08/05/2019 23:56

We love Jan here. I've even started saying a "bit of team building luv" while doing her rolly arm action Blush to get the dc's to get moving.

i had a life once.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 09/05/2019 10:42

If it makes you feel any better we still mockingly call people "Sweetie-heart" which was one of Dixie's more peculiar terms of endearment... If anyone needs a life, I think it's the people quoting Casualty from years ago! I loved Dixie, but that always made me shudder...

Jan is good fun. She's a great addition to the cast.

QueenofmyPrinces · 09/05/2019 23:02

Another one here who found Charlie’s and Duffy’s hug very awkward.

It’s lovely to see sexy and brooding Ian back in his uniform!!

I love Jan too. Could we have a Jan and Dylan special?
