New series starts today.

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/02/2019 23:30

It sounded like Delia to me and everything I've read on the internet says Delia too, including the character list on IMDB.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 20/02/2019 07:38

I’m obviously confused-I put Delia Grin sorry.
I am struggling to keep up, I missed the end of the last series and haven’t managed to catch up yet.

I didn’t know Carolyn and Jack were a couple in real life. I think she is a very striking woman and really suits the hair and clothes they put her in. I love watching for her outfits alone.

Iwantacampervan · 20/02/2019 08:17

"Jack" was one of the police officers in 'Doctor Blake Mysteries' - "Carolyn" was also in one episode with him, very confusing!

icelolly99 · 20/02/2019 09:07

Iwantacampervan oh yes, he's not a very nice character in Doctor Blake is he. I don't remember 'Carolyn' actress popping up in that though.
Sorry, really thought she was called Delilah Grin

icelolly99 · 20/02/2019 09:10

Also real life couple is 'Sarah' and the actor who played her 1st husband Rene(?) Nordmann.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 20/02/2019 15:21

Omg! She kissed her and Jack saw! Noooooo!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 20/02/2019 19:49

Oh yes , Harry Polson is beautiful too. I hope he and Dr Henry end up together.

Great programme - strong women, gorgeous men, and stunning scenery.

What's not to love?

Iwantacampervan · 21/02/2019 07:27

icelolly99 The one I remember was series 3 episode 3 (found after googling, I don't have that good a memory!)

StarbucksSmarterSister · 21/02/2019 10:51

I've only just watched episode 7, can someone tell me why Caro is so unbelievably upset about Jack's decision? I've been watching since mid series 5 and haven't seen anything to indicate why she'd have such a strong reaction.

icelolly99 · 21/02/2019 13:09

She wants more for him and herself than a 'small town hospital'; city life, more adventure and ambition.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 21/02/2019 14:57

Jack wouldn't be happy in the city!

Inverness suits him quite perfectly, I think.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 21/02/2019 17:34

I hope when we get to the end of the series that 800 words starts again.

So cross Jack didn’t take note of Delias phone call and go to the naming ceremony and get her back.

Have I missed something? How come the wife beater is back and his wife and kids are living with him? I am really confused by this series, it seems to be jumping all over the shop!

icelolly99 · 22/02/2019 11:42

Because he's now disabled and she's returned to take care of him....she's not scared of him anymore.
have you missed an episode?

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 22/02/2019 13:51

That’s what I wondered. I can’t think when I missed it but it’s kind of a big thing to miss on the ‘previous episodes’ bit they show at the beginning.

icelolly99 · 22/02/2019 15:20

Episode 6; (after he shoots at Sarah) he gets taken to the city hospital for an op to relieve the pressure on his brain; injury from the accident.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 22/02/2019 17:28

Ahh thanks Smile knew he’d been carted off but missed the bit about an op.

Well what an ending, I googled info- I didn’t realise it was based on truth.

AnyFucker · 22/02/2019 17:29

I player only has series 5 and 6

Absolutelylocaltoyou · 22/02/2019 18:57

I really enjoyed that, great ending. I will miss all those great characters and the eye candy.

Mrsmadevans · 22/02/2019 19:08

Is the complete series 1-6 anywhere please? My Mum loves it but hasn't seen all the series and she wants to watch them, l know the series 1-6 is for sale on Amazon pre release but hoped to find it for free cheapskate that l am Grin on Iplayer, Netflix or Amazon fire thank you Smile

icelolly99 · 22/02/2019 19:17

PeterPiperPickedWrong i didn't know that! Have you got a link please?

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 22/02/2019 19:44

icelolly99 I skimmed this quickly and jumped to conclusions as I was dashing off to do something. Now I’ve gone in and read the link PROPERLY I see that sentence ‘based on a true story’ was a snippet about her next role.
Apologies, I think I just got a bit carried away with the bits saying ‘James died of aids, Sarah lived to 104, Elizabeth died in her sleep’...... sorry.
Slightly disappointed now.

icelolly99 · 22/02/2019 22:08

Aah, I see. It was ending explanation bit about Roy and his dog that set me off....

Defenbaker · 23/02/2019 01:38

I just caught the final episode on iPlayer. What a great ending to a great series that was. The last few minutes, where they tied up all the loose ends was beautifully done, and so poignant, that it had me in tears by the end.
Seeing all the family photos on the wall was a nice touch too, as it was a reminder of all the previous storylines, and one could imagine the elderly Sarah looking over those photos and remembering all the happy times of her younger years.
This was a real gem of a series, and I feel quite sad that its final season has come to an end. The way they finished it, I can't see how a further series would be possible, although I guess a spin-off series featuring some of the characters, or the occasional one-off special, might be possible.

morningtoncrescent62 · 23/02/2019 20:48

Over-invested here. I'm trying to work out when Sarah was born. If she lived to be 104, and we take the time of writing to be the present day, 2019, that makes her born in 1914. So in her 30s by the time she was liberated from Ravensbruck, pushing 40 when she came back to Australia, and early 40s when David was born. I thought she was supposed to be a bit younger than that. Or maybe 'now' is a bit later?

To be honest I preferred the early series when Sarah and Elizabeth were such fighters. Too much gazing into the middle distance in the later series. I loved the series when we got some of Elizabeth's back story, it made so much sense, and the actress who played young Elizabeth was so uncannily like her older self. But I kept watching and I'm sad it's ended, as presumably it now has.

icelolly99 · 24/02/2019 00:17

David was 6 by 1959 so by her being 104 in 2018 and born in 1914 she was 46 by the time they were singing in the new decade of 1960. Sounds reasonable to me.
