Surprised there's no thread on this. Did anyone watch it last night or has the series reached its natural end and is no longer attracting viewers?

The trouble with a long running series like this is that everyone starts to get complacent. it's just 'cue the soppy music again', 'let's just do a variation of script no 100344' etc. They are all just going through the motions.

I wish they would switch the bloody background music off and sack the Doctor and his wife.
Also they all look far too clean , neat and well ordered.

ItsInTheSpoon · 01/03/2019 19:50

I like the Turners! A really kind family - what’s wrong with that? I think their attitude may seem patronising now but would not have been thought so then

SoupDragon · 02/03/2019 08:56

I agree. Yes, they do come across as patronising but I think they are actually just very caring.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 02/03/2019 09:22

It's not them as characters for me, rather than the writing and/or acting of them. They are incredibly wooden and always have been.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 02/03/2019 09:23

Actually, they weren't always - before they got together they were fine. It's been since then.

Fortheloveofscience · 02/03/2019 09:27

Yes. I loved Sr Bernadette, but Shelagh Turner winds me up.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/03/2019 09:48

Yes. I loved Sr Bernadette, but Shelagh Turner winds me up. I just think the Turners come across as too 'apple pie' wholesome.

FWIW I have a friend who used to be a nun and she's nowhere near as 'goody two-shoes' as Shelagh Turner.

AppleKatie · 02/03/2019 13:01

Perhaps Shelagh and the Doc should have a good judgemental bitch about something soon, make them more believable as a married couple 😂

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/03/2019 13:30

It's all very wholesome. Although I do remember a couple of years ago we were all very shocked by just how enthusiastically Tom and Barbara were kissing (when his brylcreemed hair left a greasy mark on the wallpaper Grin), so perhaps it's safer if they just stick to simpering at each other.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 02/03/2019 14:02

I think it's that the doctor is such a bad actor. Every week he has some cringy exposition scene with some bit part jobbing actor and invariably they act the arse off him.

SoupDragon · 02/03/2019 14:04

FWIW I have a friend who used to be a nun and she's nowhere near as 'goody two-shoes' as Shelagh Turner.

Shelagh was "goody two she's" as a nun though so I suppose it's not so surprising that she is still like that now. They've had a couple of feisty nuns though - the older one of the new pair and the one who stayed at the mother house to look after the children were both less "goody" than Shelagh.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 02/03/2019 19:38

I think they were bearable before they got together because Dr Smug was a very small role then. His writer wife has expanded his part far far far beyond the limits of his talent.

Clawdy · 03/03/2019 10:26

I remember being so pleased when they finally got together, so I love seeing Shelagh so happy and busy! Agree they are a bit too good to be true, but it does make a nice change to have a happy couple in a tv drama.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 03/03/2019 10:35

They can be as happy as they like if only they'd act it better. Or Heidi Thomas would write it better.

iklboo · 03/03/2019 11:39

I think it's the last episode tonight.

user1457017537 · 03/03/2019 12:12

I don’t think this series has been as good as the earlier ones. I think they have exhausted the books and are struggling with the writing now.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/03/2019 13:21

I think it's become a bit formulaic in the social/medical storylines shoehorned into each episode.

So will 'nan' "go down" for being an abortionist? And will the Turners' foster daughter move on to pastures new or not? And maybe a proposal in the offing?

AppleKatie · 03/03/2019 18:07

Is it definitely the last one tonight?
If so-
Nan goes down
Cyril proposes
Nurse crane triumphant return from hospital, is rude to new young nun and then is proved wrong by her superior skill. Apolgises, Hugs, mentions Barbara.
Foster daughter looks like she’s going until last moment and then stays with the turners.
New older nun and sister julienne have some sort of conspiratorial chat.

AppleKatie · 03/03/2019 18:08

Oh and Trixie looks at a bottle of spirits but decides against (this time). That ones for old times sake 🤣 perhaps because Lucilles getting married and she’s getting dustier on the shelf by the day.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/03/2019 18:10

Will nan go down or will she conveniently pop her clogs?

Well the Turners keeping May was predictable!

PlayingForKittens · 03/03/2019 20:47

I'm so pissed off that May is staying. It should show the realities of fostering and the heartbreak of letting the children go.
