actually any of those 4 could do any of those 4 Smile

MozzieMagnet · 14/10/2018 21:55

What is 'proper' contempowaft?! (genuine question, can you post an example?)

Anythingforacatslife · 14/10/2018 22:00

It won’t be contemporary, it’ll be lyrical.

dodobookends · 14/10/2018 22:02

'Proper' contemporary - a couple of examples:

English National Ballet at Glastonbury, 'Lest we forget' choreographed by Akram Khan.

'Ghost Dances' - choreo: Christopher Bruce

dodobookends · 14/10/2018 22:07

Sorry Mozzie dunno how to post links - they are on youtube tho Smile

MozzieMagnet · 14/10/2018 22:11

Ooh I know ghost dances i think - day of dead/Pinochet? Inspired Chris Dean's 'missing' choreo?

ElspethFlashman · 14/10/2018 22:12

Haven't watched (I never bother with Sundays) but relieved Katie is gone. She just wasn't good and it wasn't a good time for her to be doing it.

Charles shouldn't be in the bottom two though. He was fine. Better than others. I don't mind him at all and am surprised others don't like him. I thought his little story about his son learning the moves was very cute.

Elderflower14 · 14/10/2018 22:18

Why was the thread title edited? It seemed fine to me.

KurriKurri · 14/10/2018 22:19

I find Charles and Karen look a bit odd as a couple because of the height difference - he always seems to be slightly hunched. I'm not cray about Karne as a dancer - no idea why - I just don't feel excited to see her routines or watch her dance - same applies to Charles really, they are just a bit dull.

Putting aside my dislike of Seannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn (which is great), I think he's a lousy dancer and was very overmarked, he's often out of time. last week he just stood there while Katya flung herself about, this week he shuffled out of time to the music around while Katya flung herself about. His jive a few weeks back was unwatchably awful.

Not really looking forward to the contempowafts coming up - barefoot flouncing about in chiffon nighties is not my thing. But no doubt Craig will gush madly about whatever old rubbish gets served up.

Sorry to see Katie go - she's a sweet person as is Gorka, but I think she'll probably enjoy herself more watching from the audience.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/10/2018 22:26

Proper contemporary is based on the techniques developed by people such as Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Horton & taken up and developed by Rambert etc. Techniques include Contract & release.

dodobookends · 14/10/2018 22:28

barefoot flouncing about in chiffon nighties is not my thing

Ah, well if they do some contemproperly then you'll be in for a treat then - writhing about in the dark on the floor to incomprehensible music whilst wearing flesh-coloured underwear... no... wait... probably not the sort of thing the production team wants to encourage right now Grin

MozzieMagnet · 14/10/2018 22:28

yeah, doubt in 1.40 on a light entertainment show you will get anything deep. Both series of SYTYCD UK and Stateside did 'lyrical' with a cancer theme. I cannot see that working on Strictly at all tbh.

That said, there was a holocaust routine on Russian DOI two years ago

This routine is amazing...but not sure Strictly will want a routine based on toxic relationships somehow

SuperSuperSuper · 14/10/2018 22:29

Katie's lovely but it was time for her to go. I am also glad that the public isn't patronising her by giving her pity votes.

I've seen lots of posts on social media in support of Seann. It's felt that his ex hasn't been very dignified, "liking" anti-Seann tweets etc. Not my opinion, but that is how some people view it.

MozzieMagnet · 14/10/2018 22:44

So...Graeme: Tango, Ranj: American Smooth, Ashley: rumba...
Are we getting a normal waltz any time soon? Grin
Lauren's up for contempowaft....I hope to God they don't theme around her disability we are not American

MozzieMagnet · 14/10/2018 22:56

Yes, well, she couldn't 'win' either...sell your story to the press, you're a kiss'n'tell golddigger, state it in your own terms, you're a stirring harpy Hmm, keep silent and you and your family are doorstepped all week.
I don't do twitter, insta or fb but the scrutiny is intense - Lisa Armstrong (ExMrsAntNotDec) had similar...liking a tweet or disliking one was reported constantly as a ''responds to''.
Dignified silence is hard if every gesture, moment and look is analysed and magnified. Bless Neil, his lippy and his rock.
Even then some twunt thought ooh, subliminal message - marriage on rocks. Quite a leap from a partially naked instagram.

dontcallmelen · 14/10/2018 23:34

Missed the show tonight, I admire Katie but she wasn’t very good & at times looked downright uncomfortable, I think Charles is not particularly liked as he doesn’t really do humility & comes across as a bit arrogant, don’t think he deserved to be in the DO again, glad Swanny got through I find him quite endearing & he looks like he is genuinely enjoying the whole experience, not looking forward to wafting/ writhing about in nighties next week, would really like to see a proper Viennese waltz/American smooth rather than the cloppy/skippy efforts we have seen so far.

KitchenDancefloor · 14/10/2018 23:48

It took so long to find you, I thought I'd lost my people.

Can we find a partner to hold hands with when we jump to the next thread so no one gets behind?

< wipes eyes and takes a big breath >

Strictly does seem to be moving more away from proper ballroom content. I'm not sure about the contemporary and musical theatre elements for the couples' choice and I actually snorted with derision when they said 'street' was an option. It's not BGT with all its popping and locking!

I'm too old and grumpy for this season.

PawneeParksDept · 14/10/2018 23:49

Swanny...

I have a terrible fear he could do a HOLLINS

I've never gotten over the miscarriage of justice that was HOLLINS

Genuinely still fume about it whenever he pops up. Blush

Oddcat · 14/10/2018 23:53

@Elderflower14 when I started this thread I forgot to add the number 7 to it so I asked @mnhq to add the number , I didn't expect it to change completely Sad

KitchenDancefloor I tried to do a link to this new thread but someone beat me to the last post . I panicked when I named it and forgot to add number 7 in the title , I asked mnhq to add a 7 but they changed it completely.

Pawnee - or he could transform into a Ramprakesh!
Either way, I enjoy watching him and Oti and will continue to vote for him even though he is not the best male dancer.

If it's all down to public votes however, I think Joe could do a Joe.

KitchenDancefloor · 15/10/2018 00:11

Thanks for starting the thread Oddcat

'Twasn't a complaint, just a sense of rising panic! The sev-ern as a 7 would help @mnhq

GabsAlot · 15/10/2018 00:28

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2018 04:27
