Apparently she called Charley the N word in a 'joking manner' whilst they were dancing and was chucked out at 3 in the morning.

Stupid, silly naive girl

I have had more West Indian friends in my life than anything else and it is a word that you hear all the time - but a black person saying it to another is totally different. Regardless of how comfortable you are or how close you are, it is never, ever acceptable for a white person to say it to black.

I thought everyone knew that! Silly little girl!

Songbird · 07/06/2007 13:43

Hopefully they'll still show the aftermath, though.

3andnomore · 07/06/2007 13:45

Is it possible that she wanted to be kicked out, because she was up for eviction?
Must say, after she was nominated she turned a bit, hasn't she?

bananabump · 07/06/2007 13:50

Psh, I'm not sure she'd have wanted to leave under these circumstances. Look at Jade and Danielle now...

Which was the one that wanted to leave and asked whether she would still get "deals" if she did. Thought that very illuminating that they are all slaveringly desperate for their 15 mins of fame.

Be great if when they came out the whole country (including Heat and all those other mags) utterly ignored them. Unlikely of course!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/06/2007 14:00

It was Shadnam and I thought that was brilliant. At least she is honest!
In her audtition tape she said she quits her job every week as she is just too creative to hold one down.
I see her quiting early, and good on her

bananabump · 07/06/2007 14:01

kerala, that was shabnam. She's always said she's "only there for the exposure"

She's so desperate to be on tv she even went on embarassing illnesses and showed everyone her scabby scalp.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 14:08

thedevil,are you/your partner/your dc black?

kerala · 07/06/2007 14:10

Know I will sound a total old fogey but all this being famous for nothing stuff is crazy. Shabnum famous for what?! Nothing. Surely to be famous you should at least have some sort of skill or talent rather than just being pushy and possessing bizarre over confidence and self belief.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 07/06/2007 14:11

I wouldnt have thought so Taylor!

fortyplus · 07/06/2007 14:11

I don't watch BB, but after the racism row on Celeb BB last time, don't you think Channel 4 were just waiting for someone to use a racist word so that they could be seen to act 'properly' and evict the person?

Call me cynical if you like, but I think the Ch4 execs will be rubbing their hands with glee.

totaleclipse · 07/06/2007 14:12

I dont think a scabby scalp is embarassing though, obviously she just wanted the exposure, but am surprised she was entered on embarassing illnesses.

totaleclipse · 07/06/2007 14:15

fortyplus

I dont think so, if BB bosses turned a blind eye to it, they would be in danger of having the show axed, especially if it escalated, I dont think they had any other option but to kick her out

Mhamai · 07/06/2007 14:16

MamaG, at myself! I don't know why I like it but I do.

Ps
I'm 40 in September, maybe it's some sort of mid life crisis thing?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/06/2007 14:23

Taylorsmummy my best friend in the world is carribean, we have known each other since we were 3 and I have seen all the shit she has had thrown at her, and how she has dealt with it.

It is only peoples embarrasment, or misguided opinions of such words that perpetuate their meaning.
Yes there are a few nasty racist people around who would use such wods in a way that makes them loaded with hatred, but they are a tiny minority.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 14:26

i really don't mean to be rude but i think you are very wrong.you have a friend who is caribbean and you say she wouldn't mind.well, thats one person.if you ask all the other black people in the world, the vast majority would say they would be insulted.how you think that word can be 'perfectly inoffensive' i have no clue!!

BishyBarneyBee · 07/06/2007 14:28

I can see your point Devil - but reclaiming a word means it is reclaimed by the mionrity group that it was used to oppress so Emily cannot use it in the same way that Charley can.

Agree connie.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/06/2007 14:32

But surely the point of reclaiming a word is to stop it being offensive so why say it can only be used by certain people? That negates the whole point. It is still offensive.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 14:34

how can you reclaim it if it wasn't yours in the first place?

it's offensive whatever way it's used.i just find it laughable that anyone can even try and justify it.no white person should be using it!!

Oncebitten · 07/06/2007 14:34

I can't believe how openly people have been using the N word on here tbh. I am black and I find it highly offensive. I expect that posters who have felt no uncomfort typing the word, would have more discomfort saying it outloud in the ear shot of black people.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 14:35

oncebitten,i can't even bring myself to type the word, seriously.it gets me so angry seeing people use it

Mhamai · 07/06/2007 14:40

I wouldn't dream of using the n word, as far as I'm concerned it's origon is highly derogatory [sp?] and was used by white slave owners to put black people down. If black people choose to use that word albeit ironically then that is their perogitive imho. It's not unlike the Irish being referred to as Paddy's, as an Irish person, I've known other Irish people to use the word amongst themselves but it can be quite insulting to here it from non Irish people.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/06/2007 14:43

It is all about context! yes it can be used in a hateful and racist way, but sometimes it isn't.
As I said before, plenty of women don't mind being called bitches or cows (or the worse C word) unless it is part of a vicious personal attack.

I would say that 50% of pop records these days use similar terms, from white or black people and there is no uproar about it.

fortyplus · 07/06/2007 14:45

People have used words to insult others from different races/localities for centuries. In France white Britons were known as 'Rosbif'. I think the N word has unpleasant connotations because of the connotations of slavery. Maybe it's a good thing that young black people use it as a 'mock insult' with their mates - that way it will lose its impact and become no more offensive than calling an Irish person a 'Paddy'.
