Nettletheelf just what I was thinking, it was ooh look at us.

Katz · 19/09/2018 20:21

Only just found this thread so this may have been said but many of the product tests are on the new thing. So a couple of weeks ago it was tshirts but they hadn’t been washed 10 times. That’s normally the test between a cheap one and an expensive one. Same with these cushions cheap ones go flat after a couple of months

Elderflower14 · 19/09/2018 20:26

This woman is so negative!!!

Nettletheelf · 19/09/2018 20:28

She’s not prepared to entertain renting a smaller house, is she? Even if it means that they stand no chance of buying a house of their own.

Elderflower14 · 19/09/2018 20:29

Why the bloody hell did they spend £8 on hair gel!!!

CoffeeShortbread · 19/09/2018 20:31

Katz re cushions, also things like sharp feathers poking through in cheap ones after a bit.

mizu · 19/09/2018 20:33

The renting thing annoyed me. We saved for 7 years and recently bought a small place. DDs will always have to share but it is our own place.

No holidays were had for those 7 years either.

Katz · 19/09/2018 20:34

At least with the mattresses they put weights on for 6 hours. But again it’s how many times they cope with being inflated and deflated over and over before the seams fail.

Nothisispatrick · 19/09/2018 20:34

There seems to be a theme of completely average, unstylish men being obsessed with fashion and labels Confused it’s weird.

I much prefer Eat well for less as I can understand how spending on food gets out of control. Selling your house but 11 holidays a year makes no sense.

Katz · 19/09/2018 20:34

Coffee - exactly cheap isn’t necessarily the best economy

LeftRightCentre · 19/09/2018 20:34

They find the stupidest people for this show. And all these middle-aged men behaving like teens with their needing brand-name designer stuff like they're bloody 14.

user1471426142 · 19/09/2018 20:37

This programme is my guilty pleasure but it drives me mad. It makes me so annoyed that they never really do a full budget or even consider food costs and then fanny around saying you could have saved £20 buying cheaper bedding. I always scream at the tv ‘but they already bloody have it- you’re not saving them any money!’.

Nettletheelf · 19/09/2018 20:38

Sod buying a house as long as Hannah gets to carry on buying perfume that is “so me”, eh?

Why are this couple getting on my nerves so much?

Katz · 19/09/2018 20:39

User - same here. Like totting up how much they’d spend on iPads and replacing them with kindles. You can’t unspent the money.

user1471426142 · 19/09/2018 20:48

They also seem to have an issue with kids books each week.I don’t believe their sums either. They said £5k on around 600 kids books averaging around £8. I’d bet a sizeable chunk of those would be book people ones at £1 a book or presents.

I also hate the experiments when multiple people try a single product (eg the toothbrushes). Surely they all need to try them all to get any sort of reliable view. Anyway... I’ll pipe down now!

Katz · 19/09/2018 20:53

That’s not correct. They had an Alexa echo plus which full price £140. If the swap was £100 than that’s not half the price. Plus you could have swapped it with the dot for £50

CatboySpeed · 19/09/2018 20:54

The Mum is irritating me. She has a ‘but’ after everything.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 19/09/2018 21:30

That woman just did my head in. She just didn't take in anything that Steph suggested in order to save money!

raisedbyguineapigs · 19/09/2018 22:04

nettle I agree with you there. They are all obsessed with brands and what other people might think of them. They go on telly and everyone knows they have designer stuff an d people who don't know them now know they have smeg appliances. They bloody love showing off their crap. I'd love to see if any of them actually reduced their spending a year from now.

CurbsideProphet · 19/09/2018 22:16

I don't know why this couple wanted to be on the show, seeing as though they weren't willing to make any serious changes. Did they just want to be on telly to boast about their designer hoodies and swimming shorts? Hmm

AutumnGlitterBall · 19/09/2018 22:32

I get that everyone wants their children to have nice things but why are they giving into pre-teens’ demands for hair gel at seven quid a tub? Mum and dad buy the toiletries, they use the shampoo and shower gel they’re bought! I’d buy cheaper products and decant into the posh bottles!

Also, things like the books, DVDs and iPads might have been Christmas gifts and perhaps from family members so it’s not like they’ve just randomly spent thousands on their kids. They do need to stop having holidays though!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/09/2018 22:52

This programme is utter rubbish, there used to be a financial advice programme called Your money or your life and Alvin Hall was the financial adviser and presenter, he was utterly brilliant he helped people facing bankruptcy, people about to lose their homes, people living on credit, you name it he covered it. He gave them the tools to change and also went into the psychological reasons for their financial situations. It was fascinating and informative and he had such a lovely manner about him as well, after a year he would do a revisit to see if people had managed to turn things around. Alvin Hall knows his stuff, bring him back to TV.

hubbibubbub · 19/09/2018 23:02

Agree Bettyboo what happened to Alvin Hall?

I think this couple are traumatised by before and as w consequence are 'living for the day' but who knows

hubbibubbub · 19/09/2018 23:03

I would also recommend one of the parents get a second job if they are serious an extra £150 per week is £7200 per year.

With some changes and downsized House they could probably move in 2years.

StylishMummy · 19/09/2018 23:06

Tonight's couple pissed me off as much as the Nan from week 1 Hmm
