WOW!
I'm in the wrong job, graduate public sector professional and earn no where near being able to have that sort of disposable income.

@wearesailing

I did notice the teeth straight away. Not sure if an overbite but like horses teeth. Sorry. Know that’s mean

This made me so mad watching this last night!! Me and my dp are scrimping and saving to buy our own house and this idiot wants to blow what we currently have saved for a deposit on a new watch that he wont even use to tell the time!!!

Couldn't believe this family. Told DH not to watch as he would have had apoplexy.
They have no savings, overspend their income and still the dad thinks it's OK to buy an 8k watch in the near future because his 3k one isn't blingy enough. What a plonker. He has never grown up. Just kept laughing and smirking and really couldn't see why he should change.
If on of them lost their job they would be up shit creek within the month.
Did they really need the tele people to have to tell them how to save money? These were graduate, professionals.
I despair!

They really do take the biscuit this week. As if anyone gives a toss if a fat middle aged dad of two has designer trainers? He's deluded! She might be a bit worried about spending more time with the kids but she's married to a prize twat. It's as if he listens to what they are saying then forgets immediately.

LeftRightCentre · 06/09/2018 14:58

He looked like a right berk in those clothes.

Report
raisedbyguineapigs · 06/09/2018 15:00

Both their clothes are shit. It like they think money can buy you taste. I think they went on here to show off their designer stuff. No one can be so stupid.

I can't understand the mentality of the families who ask to go on the programme, are they so deluded that they genuinely can't see what their problems are?

The husband yesteday was either a complete tosspot or pretending to be one for some reason on camera. I actually don't know why I watch it, the obscene overspending each week makes me feel quite sick

Think is with food it's gone in a week or two. If they bought a few good quality decent staples they could spend £££on then accessorise but they both had mountains of designer ugly clothes that mostly looked the same. I agree it's obscene that they have two children yet don't even think about any type of saving for their future or emergencies. They would rather spend 8k on a watch so he can look 'cool' I bet he's one of those men who thinks the young girls fancy him when really they are laughing at how tragic he is!

Anyone know what the internet auction site they got their clothing swaps from? Only one I know of is eBay but not sure if there are others

Report
ViolettaPink · 06/09/2018 19:41

I'm guessing it was Ebay. They might have bought stuff from Depop perhaps? It doesn't do auctions on there but it's people selling second hand clothing.

Does anyone manage to save 20% of their salary?

DP and I work f/t both good salaries but spent don't save anywhere near 20%......Possibly 10% on a good month with no unforeseen disasters.

Watched last night. House looked quite nice - but they both looked their age (same as us - and so do we). No amount of spending is going to make you look 20 years younger.

I guess she had the more straightforward look.

He, on the other hand, just looked stupid. Mind, I have never had any allusions to coolness, trying to sell stuff into restaurants could possibly be my worst job apart from chiropodist

I soooo wish one (or both) lose their jobs and come back to earth with a massive bump.

raisedbyguineapigs · 07/09/2018 08:57

Their nieces and nephews being left motherless at the age of 8 hasn't managed to give them or him more to the point any perspective or even having two children, so if one of them lost their jobs they'd probably just borrow more. I doubt they'd stick to the plan in the programme for long. They seem complete idiots.

I would imagine that two people who were said to be working full time and on fairly senior sales roles would be on around £50k each, easily. Their cars would be company vehicles. Combined family income of £100k, and they didn't live in a super-expensive part of the UK.

But rather than being sensible with their cash and saving a good whack of it for the future they were just frittering it on crap. Most of us have had that scenario of earning our first salaries in a "proper" job and going a bit daft with expensive stuff, but most of us grow out of it pretty quickly. And are well past that stage before getting to mid 40s with two kids....

I also wonder if they will REALLY stick to the changes they claim they'll make. When you've spent 20 plus years obsessing about having the right trainers, automatically defaulting to the most expensive brands, walking past certain stores to go to others and shopping in the same way, is a programme really going to totally transform things? Or is it all nods and smiles for Alex and Steph and back to sneering at charity shop books and logging into Amazon to order stuff as soon they've gone?

I saw that last week's family (with the two sets of twins) have their own YouTube channel. Wonder what their motivation for doing that show was...

I thought they didn't have cars, but of course if they had company cars they couldn't have them on the drive.
At least that's a small mercy. Wonder what car he would have got himself if he had to have his own?

Yes I got the distinct impression that by the time the TV crew left they were already planning their next shopping binge

Report

I didn't like them one bit. It was almost like they thought it was really funny that they spent obscene amounts. She just kept giggling like an idiot when she had just dropped almost £500 on two pairs of boots the day of the show! She of course hadn't even checked how much they cost until on TV!

Pair of show-offy tossers with no idea of the real world! 'oops I've spent 20k' get real!

The format is so contrived

Yeah right the couples don't realise Steph and Alex are visiting their house

I missed the end of this and just watched it! Alex had her eyes rolling so far back into her head when he was talking about 'geek chic' with his glasses. They don't suit him!! He really is a prize dick. All the money in the world won't make him less of a twat. I really wanted one of them to give him some home truths about his stupid bomber jackets making him look like Tom Cruise! And no one pointed out that he could have one expensive bomber jacket that would last him a year, instead of 4.

Really couldn't stand this pair. My older DC's watched it with me, they are 15 and 10 and they were horrified at the ridiculous spending. DS1 who is 15 said he would never spend that kind of money on clothes because the quality is only going to be so good after a certain price. 15 and he realises this!

I hope the husband watches it back and realises what a knob he looks like in all of those stupid clothes he wears. When he was joking about looking like a bouncer in the cheaper outfit and they showed it with his own, he looked more a like a bouncer then.

Agree with all of the comments that he needs to grow up. Hello, you are in your 40's with 2 kids and you just look pathetic.

Report
raisedbyguineapigs · 07/09/2018 15:03

Yes i wanted to say you dont look like a bouncer because of the cheap jacket, you look like a bouncer because you are a 40 year old man in a bomber jacket and a baseball cap!

How awful to be on a programme like that and expose yourselves as egotistical and wasteful. He was a prize idiot and certainly looked it in all that weird gear more suitable to a teenager. She was a strange one, couldn't work her out really. She actually looked rather strained and old, I thought. I would have have spent megabucks on dental work to get those teeth sorted first, rather than wasting money on all the designer stuff. I thought her Prada stuff said it all, very plain and overpriced. I guess maybe that what's you have to be like to succeed in the hard-nosed but shallow world of selling? If either of them lose their job they'll be up shit creek. I always think of my mum's expression when I see these type of people 'fine feathers don't make fine birds'!!!!!
