He is deluded!!!

He needs to get a clothing make over!

Like their duvet cover!

That guy is stuck at about a mental age of 21. He needs to grow up - his style is awful on a teenager, but completely ridiculous on a middle aged man with a look of Jamie Oliver about him.

I'm watching and I'm shocked by the way these people spend. Do they really not save any money for a rainy day? They're not young kids.

Why would anyone actually aim to look like Kanye West?

Maybe I need to watch to see what a middle aged man should look like?

I am sitting here dressed in Primark

The guy wants to spend £8K on a watch - how spoilt and selfish can he be? - the man is an utter dweeb

I think the little girl seems the smartests

There’s something very distasteful about people who spend this much on expensive crap saying they can’t save. Even worse, presenters on hundreds of thousands of pounds telling them they should buy cheap clothes and should save 20% of their income. What planet are all these people living on?

I was hoping Greg Wallace and his sidekick would appear so we’d know how much they spend on their food shopping.

I have some sympathy with families who for various reasons bad habits have crept in kind of unconsciously.

As someone unable to work due to ill health, who could never dream of earning what they do, who lives on such a tight budget that the ave spend on jeans (£35) is excessive and I'd have to save for...

This is frankly OBSCENE!

I know this is meant to be a relatively light "fluffy" programme I've been getting more angry the longer this show has gone on. Yet I keep hoping they'll have their epiphany that they'll 'get' that they are behaving like very spoilt, irresponsible toddlers!

To be earning goodness knows what (can anyone make an estimate?) have 2 DC and have NO savings whatsoever? No contingency plan for if they lost their jobs (and sales jobs are NOTORIOUSLY unreliable), or if one or both of them were to get sick/disabled or even die EVEN THOUGH they have recent experience of close loved ones who've gone through exactly that?!

It's offensive! Her brother lost his wife I think? Wtf must he think of it all? If he didn't know before then this episode being shown I can imagine could be quite upsetting for him.

TheDogAte - Alex might be ok £100,000's salary but actually just being on telly doesn't mean someone is necessarily on lots of money. I doubt Steph is on huge money as she's less well known, less prominent. Quick google suggests she's on just over £100,000 with BBC work which she supplements with other work. And I'd guess she DOES have savings and contingency plans for lack of work etc.

Genuinely curious what their joint salary is and whether they have an interest only mortgage.

TheDogAteMyPants · 05/09/2018 21:26

I think the point is that it’s a lot easier to save 20% on a high salary than it is for most people who are on average earnings or worse. Steph and Alex are both high earners. They both also make thousands for after dinner gigs. I’ve booked minor celebs for these in the past - so know what ballpark this is in.
People who can barely afford to live (not prats spending mega bucks on hats) can’t afford to save anything!

I just spent the entire programme shouting bellend and wanker at the screen. He is utterly repugnant, his attitude, his teenage boy attire. When they showed that split screen in the two camo shirts comparisons my DH could not stop laughing. He also wears a 3K watch which he has not even set the time right on, it is just bling. And he wants to spend 8K on another one.

As a family they don’t need to swap brands, he just needs to buy a couple of pairs of branded ones a year rather than 20 pairs.

They have no savings. They are daft as brushes. Pity their kids if they don’t change their ways.

They both came across as idiots. I don't care if she wants to spend £500 on a dress but to think that only expensive dresses look nice is stupid. All her dresses looked drab and old fashioned I thought. Buying 2 pairs of identical boots and not even knowing what they cost! Definitely more money than sense.

As for him! Even bigger idiot. Stupid watch that cost 3k and he doesn't even have the right time set on it. Why would anyone need a watch that cost that much? My watch cost £5 in the market and keeps excellent time.

All those caps were ridiculous. If he insists on wearing one (and he looked silly in them) then why do they have to cost so much and why does he have so many? Also the stupid ugly trainers.

Some people really are so gullible thinking expensive always equates to better
