28 mascaras, so they should last 5 years then.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2019 21:09

If she isn’t buying new clothes at £100 a time that will add up for their wedding

Aftershave. This is lovely and the cheap one

Pmsl at leather jackets £20 v £300+

Bless their football son wearing shorts and top that was £7

I think you are being a bit mean about them. I agree about the ridiculous spending on some things but I felt they seemed quite nice people with lovely well behaved kids who they clearly spend lots of quality time with and adore. I don’t blame him for not wanting to buy second hand and I thought he was quite self deprecating about being wrong about the clothes. I liked them more as the programme progressed.

SaxxedtotheMax · 07/08/2019 21:35

They had to bribe the kids with buying them a toy every week if they behaved in the supermarket.

One adult could do an online shop go shopping, without children.

QueenOfWinterfell · 07/08/2019 22:07

They both seemed pretty dim and shallow to me. I was wondering if they had a lot of credit card debt because no way could his wage support their lifestyle.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2019 22:24

£40 a weekon treats aka toys and pressies is insane

A treat is something not had regularly

We shake our heads every week and shout at the TV. What a waste of money. Zero financial sense

ReturnofSaturn · 07/08/2019 23:06

I watched this. Agree with wondering how they fund their lifestyle?
They had a Range Rover too?!
They were quite vague about his job though so maybe he owns a company??

Lurleene · 08/08/2019 08:27

When they were asked about their wedding they seemed to pluck an enormous figure out of the air. I think it was 15 or 20 grand. Alex and Steph showed them how to have a cheaper party so why didn't they address the fact you can have a perfectly lovely wedding on a smaller budget?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/08/2019 08:30

£20k was their budget for wedding

That’s too whack

We hope to do ours for £5k and still ouch at that

It’s the food that costs. Guests don’t eat and would be most cheaper Pmsl

They were all about what other people thought of them/saw.

They liked to look rich. It's insecurity really. Personally I would rather look a bit scruffier and have money in the bank.

When they were asked about the party they put on again their first answer was what all the guests thought of it Confused

covetingthepreciousthings · 08/08/2019 09:39

Just caught up with some comments, I sometimes wonder if those who seem to have extravagant lifestyles on one wage, could all be in debt? It might all be on credit cards / loans?

Biker47 · 08/08/2019 20:11

Unless he’s the one owning the building supply company then he’s probably earning not much more than minimum wage, it’s labouring and delivering largely. How they’re spending that much I don’t know, if I had to guess, they’re up to their eyeballs in mid to high five figures of credit card and loan debt.

stucknoue · 08/08/2019 20:53

They were certainly the dimmest pair so far, I'm guessing he doesn't just deliver building supplies and they didn't mention her job because even if they owned the house outright (perhaps they inherited) that wasn't the lifestyle of a labourer/driver. We don't live like that on an income over £80k! Designer clothes, £100 a week on fast fashion and treats every time they leave the house, crazy

UpToonGirl · 08/08/2019 22:20

For those asking where the CP swap location was, it's Landal Darwin Forest Holidays in the Peak District. That did look like a good option for a CP alternative although I'm guessing when they go to CP they eat out all the time/pay for lots of activities whereas we know they ate in a few times on the swap so maybe not as big a saving as they were making out.

I was more impressed at watching them play the board games with their children in the cafe - there's no way I'd let anyone film me and my lot attempt to play! probably would end up with DC choking each other, DH flipping the board and me storming off...that may just be my family mind!

CruellaFeinberg · 09/08/2019 09:18

She seemed to be wearing a lot of fake tan as well.

Dorsetcamping · 10/08/2019 10:30

What a pair of toolsHmm

Dorsetcamping · 10/08/2019 10:39

How can they live in a house like that and do all that spending on (I'm guessing) a fairly basic single wage???

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2019 09:11

The house is the only 'believeable' part of the programme to be honest. They live in north Lincolnshire, which is a cheap area. It's also a big area, so obviously no idea of where, but here's a 4 bed period detached for £160k.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73464883.html

It was the rest that was so beyond their apparent means, including the (presumably leased) Range Rover.

They normally say if someone is a business owner, so I think it's reasonable to assume that he wasn't the company owner, so his wage was probably around £20-30k at most and with 3 DC they would be receiving CB and some TC, so they are probably either in debt or maybe have inherited the house from a parent or grandparent so are mortgage free or possibly have even remortgaged so treating house like a cash machine.

Maybe the intention is for her to work when the DCs are older to balance the books a little, although that sounds like a degree of forethought at odds with how they presented on TV.

StripeySocks29 · 11/08/2019 20:40

I’ve just watched this weeks, I assume the house is rented and they’re getting lots of tax credits and housing benefit because I cannot believe they could afford it on his wage alone.

Did anyone notice Alex’s eyebrow looked really dodgy when she had it hidden under her fringe with the headscarf?

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/08/2019 14:57

£160k for a 4bed house

I will never understand house prices can differ so much

3 bed semi £340k is next door for sale where I live
