BikeRunSki · 24/07/2019 20:59

Yep

The cheapo Barbie van and sofa won’t last long.

Jojoanna · 24/07/2019 21:00

Well that was dire

StormyLovesOdd · 24/07/2019 21:01

This program really annoys me. If you need to save some cash why on earth wouldn't you just go to the supermarket, scan the shelves and buy the cheapest washing up liquid/shampoo/bread, etc, etc.

And if you've already brought an expensive fridge freezer how is it helping if they show you a cheaper one where you could have saved £150. Urgh

Tadpoletofrog · 24/07/2019 21:02

This programme is a load of bollocks! How many fridges and sofas do people buy? Saving £150 over the lifetime of a fridge doesn’t then equate to £150 in your pocket when you are doing up a bathroom...

Why buy a new cheap, likely not to last kitchen mixer when you have one of the best money can buy already and will last decades..?!

The generally shopping, fine, but that’s just common sense.

Am I missing something?

Knittedfairies · 24/07/2019 21:13

This format just doesn't really work; throwing the sofa out to buy a cheaper one won't save them any money. The younger children can play shop properly though; we never had more than one bottle of shampoo on the shelf at any one time.

CurlsandCurves · 24/07/2019 21:20

It was massively reaching re the uni start up packs and car trackers ‘so if you did this with all your kids, you could save...’

The youngest is only 20months!

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2019 21:32

I think the point is to demonstrate that branded goods are not necessarily better quality than unbranded goods. Except it kind of backfired.

Whitney168 · 24/07/2019 21:39

This is ridiculous tonight - so she’ll have her new bathroom in about 15 years! Confused

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2019 21:45

Possibly sooner if she stops buying toiletries and cleaning products!

Also the holiday thing:
Villa in Portugal- £4500
House in Somerset - £150, vis a houseswap site. But there are houseswap sites that do overseas properties - so why not compare like with like ie Portugal villa agent with Portugal house swap.

Surely the main reason they can’t afford a new bathroom is because they have 8 children and 1 income? And she’ll probably want it to be all Villeroy and Bosch.

mydogisthebest · 24/07/2019 22:09

If they really wanted to save money they should not have had 8 children. I thought they were idiots

JustDanceAddict · 24/07/2019 22:15

Stopped watching halfway through - so bad. More plastic tat - new fridge - wtaf!!
I love the food one but ‘shop well’ is dire.,

Clutterbugsmum · 25/07/2019 11:49

Yep it was a complete piss take of the viewers.

They saved them nothing. They would have saved money just by the mum using her 'hoard' and not buying anything new until all the products had been used.

I like the food one although that feels like they scraping the bottom of the barrel with that too, especially the with that family spending £460 plus a week and yet the so called intelligent parents had 'no idea' they were spending so much. Again the only money they saved was the money they wasted on meal kits and take away's.

LizzieMacQueen · 25/07/2019 14:10

Cheap TV. it's a format made to use two existing, on the BBC Payroll presenters (who I love in their 'daytime' jobs); but it's just filler.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2019 14:56

But we still watch it 😂😂😂

Agree things they have brought obv won’t save money like big liescahes

But the average day to day stuff esp toiletress then yes can save money

Body spray. Handcrram. Shower gel. Washing powder etx

OP posts:
Jinglejanglefish · 25/07/2019 18:26

How on earth do they have enough money to buy £500 casserole pots and frying pans? Seriously, I don't understand how they have so much spare cash?

CurlsandCurves · 25/07/2019 19:10

They maybe don’t have the cash. I know if I’ve wanted anything ‘naice’ like that then we would ask for vouchers towards it for Christmas and birthdays. And then save a bit and keep an eye out for sales.

The cooking pot survey with the public was a load of rubbish too. Le Creuset pots have the name on the lid, how did they hide that?

fussychica · 25/07/2019 19:35

So awful turned it off!

Biker47 · 27/07/2019 11:41

I watched it last night, either tool cutter grinders down where he lives are on fortunes more than the ones where I live, or they've had massive inheritances or something, or he works every hour of the week possible. Basic salary of one where I work is about £23-25k.

I get the whole point of picking big items to show them, as it's trying to break preconceptions about quality, value and cost, but how often will they be buying a fridge freezer?

I also have the pot they tested from Sainsburys, perfectly acceptable and functional, she was stuck up and deluded about her le creuset one. It's a lump of cast iron, covered in enamel and paint, paying nearly £200 just for the name is insane.

Whitney168 · 27/07/2019 12:40

I confess that having bought other cast iron unbranded casseroles which either stuck like buggery or never came properly clean, I'm coming around to thinking the Le Creuset IS worth paying for LOL.

I have a Le Creuset omelette pan that has been used and in/out of the dishwasher several times a week for many years and still looks immaculate - and NOTHING sticks to it. Various cast iron casseroles have ended up in the bin in that time.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2019 19:19

I thought la c shouldn’t go in the dishwasher

Which Is why I don’t have one

  1. costly
  2. I don’t want to wash up

The uni start up kits really bugged me. Surely you just give the kids some old mismatched stuff from home or if you have none to spare (as you have a gazillion kids) you leave half or more of a big set behind for the next kid.

Skinnychip · 28/07/2019 22:47

Yeah we also mentioned swapping one off buys (that they already had) for cheaper ones and the new barbie style dolls you can tell won't be as good as an actual barbie. Seemed pointless buying cheaper versions of what they already had (unless they were going to ebay the old stuff)
Even though le creuset is ridiculously expensive it literally lasts a life time.
The uni starter kit was a bit crap, havent they heard of charity shops, you csn always find plates etc there. And who would send their kid to uni with 1 plate and 1 knife and fork!! Imagine inviting a friend, " would you like to come over to mine? You'll have to bring your own plate, knife, fork and glass....oh and a mug if you want to stay for coffee!"

RebootYourEngine · 29/07/2019 04:06

I used to like this programme but this weeks episode was like scraping the barrel. They should have focused more on he everyday things that they can change like not spending any more money on products until the other things had been used and looking at the difference between the branded and unbranded products. Uni kits and fridge freezers comparisons were pointless.

Also that mum was a bit of a snob. She liked the cheaper cooking set but wouldnt change from her expensive named one.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2019 08:33

@Skinnychip that’s true. You would need more then one esp if a friend found

Ideally a 4 pack of everything

OP posts:
Skinnychip · 29/07/2019 10:45

....and what sort of self respecting student washes up after every drink/meal or snack!! 😂😂(Which they would have to if they only had 1 of each item!)
