Couldn't see a thread on this already so just posted to say it is back on Tuesday 28th August.

Less than 2 weeks to go. Yippee!

I like Noel and Sandi. I think they are unlikely friends which I enjoy.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/09/2018 08:04

I like Sandi and Noel better than I did Sue and Mel. Always found Sue a bit brittle, not right for that context. Love Prue too.

The jokes were a bit forced this week I agree.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2018 08:08

I'm in the pro-Sandi and Noel camp too. I did like Mel and Sue, but I think it was just time for a change, and I like the two we've got. Noel doesn't seem quite the sam this time though. Someone said he's become a dad - maybe it's all the night feeds.

raisedbyguineapigs · 05/09/2018 08:20

Yes that's Dan. I kept getting confused between him and the one that went, so at least I'll know who he is now!

glamorousgrandmother · 05/09/2018 08:21

I was sceptical about the move to Channel 4 but don't actually think much has changed. I've always liked Noel (don't like the latest hair cut, though) and, although I liked the Might Boosh persona, he is entitled to move on and do other things like Julian Barratt has.

raisedbyguineapigs · 05/09/2018 08:24

Yes I like Noel and Sandy too. Im not 100% on Prue. I do like her replacement on Great British Menu though Grin

Taffeta · 05/09/2018 09:00

Maybe I’m just grumpy then - this series thusfar isn’t doing it for me

I don’t love any of the contestants

There’s no eye candy

Innuendos are thin on the ground

It’s feeling a lot more Channel 4 this series - more right-on, and the fucking adverts are doing my head in

[grizzles in corner]

glamorousgrandmother · 05/09/2018 09:25

I recorded it last night and watched straight after, partly so DH could watch when he got in, which meant I could fast forward through the adverts and reduce the time by about 15 min.

thurmanmerman · 05/09/2018 10:22

Yerch vodka buttercream.. reminded me of the Xmas episode of Bottom where they had no brandy or butter for brandy butter and had to make do with vodka margarine Envy

I also like Rahul now bless his little face. Jon was amazing this week too.

thurmanmerman · 05/09/2018 10:27

Yeah I agree Noel and Sandi's banter is rubbish. I do like Noel very much though. His hair is far better this week!

DarlingNikita · 05/09/2018 10:52

Marking place and will catch up later. I love John (that's the down-to-earth Welsh guy, yes?) and sweet Rahul –he didn't know what to do with himself when he got the Handshake and Star Baker!

The woman who's a product promoter is basically Pauline from the League of Gentlemen.

Halsall · 05/09/2018 11:08

@FanciedAChangeToday - do you have a decent-sized laptop or tablet? If you download the All4 app and register you should then be able to watch it live. Not quite the full TV experience and it might interfere with the Mumsnetting but.....desperate times, desperate measures and all that Grin

MargoLovebutter · 05/09/2018 11:58

What was the name of the bloke that was sent out? I couldn't remember anything about him until he was given the boot - poor bloke.

Was very puzzled by the temperature thing. Clearly it was more than 18 degrees in the tent, but people didn't look that sweaty and there were jumpers being worn. It can't have been in the really hot weather, because they would all have been wringing wet and passing out everywhere.

I love Noel, but why was he wearing a french outfit?

The green cake looked and sounded barf-tastic. Who in their right mind wants icing coloured with spinach? I'm sure poor old Monet really wanted a big old chocolate cake and was just being polite everytime they brought out the green gateau each year. I bet all that lovely spinach got ditched as well grumble, grumble about waste of food.

iklboo · 05/09/2018 12:01

I love Noel, but why was he wearing a french outfit?

He was dressed as Marie Antoinette who is alleged to have said 'let them eat cake' when told the French peasants were starving as they had no bread to eat. And it was cake week in the tent.

MargoLovebutter · 05/09/2018 12:04

Thanks iklboo - that, of course, makes perfect sense! Grin

Gersemi · 05/09/2018 12:10

I hate the semi-scripted banter between Sandi and Noel, like all that bollocks with the little cups as prizes. I may well be wrong, but I don't remember Sue and Mel needing to do all that. But when they're just wandering around chatting they're fine.

Gersemi · 05/09/2018 12:12

Does any cook seriously use spinach for colouring when you can get green colouring straight out of a little bottle? Why would you?

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 05/09/2018 12:12

Probably not these days but it was a historical recipe wasn’t it?

jay55 · 05/09/2018 12:20

The reason I didn’t enjoy this week, I think was the amount of tears and stress.
I like bake off to be fluffy fun and yes there’s always some stress and yes someone will have a disaster. But not usually so many, so early on when the stakes are less high.

It was nice to see the contestants comforting each other, Mel and Sue were excellent at defusing upset and helping contestants make the best of a bad situation.
This week that made a hole for me and everything felt somber.

Also did Paul really not give a handshake for the Lion bread? Because if ever there was a showstopper that deserved one.....

Gersemi · 05/09/2018 13:08

I hope they got some fans and air conditioners for the rest of the series, otherwise every programme is going to feature bakes that are buggered up by the heat.

TheNavigator · 05/09/2018 13:10

I love cake week - my favourite week. I love cake! I like how kind the contestants are to each other, it is such a warm show. We loved Rahul but we also like the Hawaiian shirt guy who just missed out. Manon was less annoying this week because she was less perfect. I liked lovely Luke, sorry to see him go. I also enjoyed learning about Kim-Joy's board game marathons with her bloke - I think she is going to grow on me.

StripySocksAndDocs · 05/09/2018 16:32

Do they do in informational pieces later on with Channel 4? I can't recall if they did last year.

Bubblysqueak · 05/09/2018 18:10

Yes I think so, they use it as a bit of a filler when there are less contestants.

DarlingNikita · 05/09/2018 18:22

I'm Terry in that quiz.

I don't have a moustache. I want to just say that.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/09/2018 18:51

I don't have a moustache. I want to just say that.

@DarlingNikita don’t count on it staying that way! Grin
