I've broken my 30-odd year habit of watching soaps thanks to the World Cup (yay) and Love Island and rather than go back to them, am trying to build up a list of Things to Watch on an evening although we only really have 2 hours to watch telly before bedtime. We've done Series 1 of Unforgotten and are half way through season 2 (and watching series 3 live time).

I've seen Line of Duty but DH didn't watch it at the time it was on, so I plan to re-visit those next - but these are the kind of things I like to watch. I prefer British made dramas to American.

Are there any other series you can think of that we might enjoy - we have Netflix and Virgin Media boxsets. I don't like anything grisly or gory tho'

TIA

Maybe don't watch Luther. It's a bit gory as far as I can remember.

Scott and Bailey
Broadchurch (the first series)
Morse, Lewis and Endeavour - in that order

redexpat · 03/08/2018 19:34

Happy Valley.
Bletchley circle. Not strictly police but still crime.
Broadchurch.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2018 19:35

YY Happy Valley

Law and Order UK (okay just because Bradders is in it )

argumentativefeminist · 03/08/2018 19:35

Cuffs was good but I dont know if it's on any catch up anymore.
No Offence is amazing.

kayakingmum · 03/08/2018 19:35

I really liked Shetland but i think they only made a couple of series.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2018 19:36

Touching Cloth ...........very loosely Police based and I bloody loved it (bit stupid but clever)

boomboo · 03/08/2018 19:37

Line of Duty - Netflix

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2018 19:37

A Touch of Cloth Blush

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 03/08/2018 19:38

No Offence

UtterlyDesperate · 03/08/2018 19:38

Endeavour - it's very much in the spirit of Colin Dexter, and much better than Lewis imo
Vera - also not quite as good as the books, but damn close

PrincessOnTheInternet · 03/08/2018 19:40

If you like crime/forensic stuff then Forensic Files on Netflix is fab, it’s not a drama or U.K. - sorry - but there’s 300 or so 20 minute episodes. I love binging it.

Marcella

Britain’s Darkest Taboos - Netflix - similar to forensic files

Happy Valley was fab

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 03/08/2018 19:41

Hinterland's on iplayer at the moment

IAmTheWifeOfMaoTseTung · 03/08/2018 19:41

Nothing is as good as Line of Duty tbh, so you’ll be slightly disappointed by anything you watch after that Sad.

But The Shadow Line and Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes were good in their very different ways.

SurelyNotJustStirItUna · 03/08/2018 19:43

If you don't mind subtitles, the Killing and the Bridge are brilliant.

GreenMeerkat · 03/08/2018 19:44

Definitely Luther. It's fab!

Plus added bonus of Idris Elba Wink

Hillbillyhotel · 03/08/2018 19:44

Agree with many of the pp,although definitely do watch Luther,it’s amazing! I’ve got Silent Witness to add and,of a far less gritty nature,The Coroner, which BBC1 broadcast on daytime sporadically.

Broadchurch and The Missing are both EXCELLENT.

Hinterland and Hidden are really good welsh crime dramas (available subtitled or in English).
