Can you recommend any UK Detective / police dramas?

I've broken my 30-odd year habit of watching soaps thanks to the World Cup (yay) and Love Island and rather than go back to them, am trying to build up a list of Things to Watch on an evening although we only really have 2 hours to watch telly before bedtime. We've done Series 1 of Unforgotten and are half way through season 2 (and watching series 3 live time).

I've seen Line of Duty but DH didn't watch it at the time it was on, so I plan to re-visit those next - but these are the kind of things I like to watch. I prefer British made dramas to American.

Are there any other series you can think of that we might enjoy - we have Netflix and Virgin Media boxsets. I don't like anything grisly or gory tho'

TIA

The Tunnel. It's got some French subtitles.
A PP mentioned Apple Tree Yard, I reslly enjoyed that but don't know where you can see that again?
Not English but the Killing was brilliant!

Morse, Lewis and Endeavour and Vera as others have recommended. I also really liked Kenneth Branagh's Wallander series (i cant remember how many there are but a curly haired Tom Hiddleston is in the first set) I also liked a series called Crimes of Passion; Swedish and set in 1950's, it wasn't critically acclaimed but BBC did broadcast it a few years ago and I really liked it. Can I add DCI Banks to the list.

If you enjoy something more gentle I can highly recommend Father Brown and Death in Paradise.

Prime suspect and prime suspect 1973 are both on Netflix . Wire in the blood is repeated on sky a fair bit. Scott and Bailey and Line of Duty are excellent.

Ripper Street (was on Amazon, not sure if it's still available). Set in Whitechapel not long after the Jack the Ripper murders. Matthew McFadyen is the lead and is excellent. It's gripping, serious, has great depth; and there are loads of fantastic and complex women characters. Also wonderful period dialogue, beautifully dressed (set and characters!) and overall utterly convincing in terms of period, characters and story. It's a seriously good piece of work and I think it's criminally underrated.

I agree with most of these.

Recently we watched Bulletproof on Sky and loved it. There’s going to be a second series

Line of Duty is probably the best thing I have ever watched on tv.

You have to watch Luther even if just for the gorgeous Idris Elba! I didn't really find it gory but it is a bit scary in places
