I know we keep saying that there should be more 'normal' people on there but who on earth would want the level of scrutiny that this lot have endured?

You'd have to be pretty committed to a tv career to put up with millions of people commenting on everything from your past to your eyebrows!

Maybe that's why they headhunted from IG, because a high profile on there suggests you don't mind scrutiny, can handle criticism and are a bit of an attention seeker.

PowerPantsRule · 26/07/2018 18:06

Dr Alex is appalling. he is the kind of doctor that has resulted in my having PTSD about doctors - patronising and misogynistic. Alexandra, meanwhile, is adorable and waaay too good for him.

RoseWhite - loving your work. We share the same views of the Islanders. But WTF are we going to do when it's over Smile

pinook · 26/07/2018 18:08

There were few picked from instagram last year too. Also people who came in as the show midway and beyond were forgotten very quickly. Montana chose Alex last year who was eye candy but was beyond dull.

SmileSweetly · 26/07/2018 18:12

What a pity Dr Alex stayed for the duration, when he had no intention of finding love, just zero interest in anything other than staying in the villa on an extended holiday.

He has occupied a spot that could've been given to someone genuinely interested in staying for the right reasons.

RoseWhiteTips · 26/07/2018 18:18

Someone called Alexandra “basic” and “coarse”. Wow.

RoseWhiteTips · 26/07/2018 18:19

I’m not even thinking about that . It is too scary!😂

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 26/07/2018 18:21

I think I actually like them all! Maybe that’s why it’s more boring this year.

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 26/07/2018 18:21

It was more fun when you had Adam to hate and Georgia to roll your eyes at

RoseWhite - Alexandra basic and coarse? She's a smart, intelligent, funny woman. It amazes me how differently people see contestants....it sort of explains why we have wars and so on (I know this is a huge leap, from Love Island to global conflict) ...but it makes me wonder if we are watching the same programme!

And I agree that Adam was terrible but great value for the viewer!

mnahmnah · 26/07/2018 18:55

You can vote for the love island awards on the app. One last chance to give them a shock Grin first one is the biggest snake. I went for meg, she’s in the lead at the moment

RainySeptember · 26/07/2018 19:01

I don't dislike Alexandra but haven't heard her say anything funny or clever yet.

I thought she sounded quite course when she said something like 'you two talk absolute dog shite' yesterday and wondered whether, given time, we might see a different side to her, a bit like Ellie.

Bizarretortoise · 26/07/2018 19:23

The hatred for Alex on here is obscene. He has done nothing wrong. He’s not shagged someone knowing he likes someone else (Wes, Meg), he’s not bitched behind people’s backs (Kaz, Josh). I’ve seen far less arrogance and entitlement from him than say the likes of Eyal, Josh, Jack2, etc. By all accounts they all love him in there, I’d take that - from people who actually know him, even though they’d probably not be friends in normal life - over viewers who’ve taken against him because he’s obviously out of his comfort zone, and probably he’s out of theirs too. I have a fair few friends he reminds me of. Yes, he’s socially awkward and out of place there, but he’s not playing the game and pretending like some of them have done. He only had to ‘pretend’ with Alex3 (who comes across as a lovely person) for a few more days.
Seeing him talk about his job yesterday made me wish we’d seen more of that in the programme. He came across really well, really professional (and I say that as someone who made a complaint against the surgeon who performed my c-section for the way he treated me and other patients). He actually reminded me a lot last night of the lovely anaesthetist who calmed me down and reassured me before the op after the dick of a consultant reduced me and another woman on the ward to tears just before we went down to theatre.

mnahmnah · 26/07/2018 19:28

Agree with you bizarre

I haven’t felt he was patronising or looking down on the others or arrogant. If anything he’s trying hard to fit in with them, learning their slang etc. He didn’t even act patronising when Hayley was trying to clarify cities, countries etc. I would have been!

Kazplus2 · 26/07/2018 19:32

Bizzarretortlise I agree with you. I don't see anything massively wrong with Alex's actions. It's a shame that someone else caught his eye and he could have handled it better but in all fairness he has been honest and now seems to be openning himself up to the possibility of him and Alexander having something. He is much more awkward and self aware than the rest of the islanders (I would be the same - not everyone is super confident with an audience) and likely very conscious of the cameras but should be awarded the benefit of the doubt until such time that he no longer deserves it.

ffaith · 26/07/2018 19:34

I called Alexandra basic and coarse but it wasn't really a diss. I just don't think she's A1's type. More suited to Jack2, josh1 or even Idris imo.
The chase is sometimes the most exciting part of courting, whatever. With her there is no mystery or subtlety. No layers to unpeel slowly. That remark about "dogshite" was also an eye-opener. I think she's a nice girl with a basic vocab who can sometimes be coarse. I think the doc would prefer more sophisticated girls.

MrsFassy · 26/07/2018 19:37

Bizarre I agree with you, I don't get the hate at all. The poor man has done nothing wrong; he's entitled to realise he doesn't fancy someone.

Initial physical attraction can wain as you get to know a person, not because that person has done anything wrong, you simply realise there isn't a connection. You may try to force it, because that person is genuinely nice and hasn't actually done anything wrong, but if you're not feeling it then the kindest thing to do is to end it, sooner rather than later.

I think in Alex's case he was interested in Alexandra on first sight. He then, maybe with how Laura2 turned his head, realised he didn't fancy her enough. Then there was a bit of pressure from well-meaning friends to make it work, so he gave it another shot. Again he's realised things aren't right, so he's done the decent thing and told her.

I like Alex too. He's the islander most like the people I know of that age. If it's true that he was headhunted and went in for the adventure, having never seen the show, then he's doing brilliantly.

I can't dislike him for not tanning, for not using the right suncream at all times, for not finding true love in the eight weeks he was given, for not being grateful and/or pretending with Alexandra or for any of the other daft reasons he's been criticised on here.

I personally don't recall seeing any arrogance or patronising behaviour but, if he has done that, it's a lot milder than the behaviour we've seen from most of the others.

And everyone in there loves him. It's not clever editing if they all come out and say it after they leave. Even people he argued with, like Ellie, spoke very highly of him.

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 26/07/2018 20:05

You tell em bizarre!!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/07/2018 20:17

This is my first LI. How will the rest of the last week play out? Do they eliminate a couple each day?

HannahnotAgnes · 26/07/2018 20:18

I agree with Bizarre too & like Dr Alex. He & Laura 1 are my favourites & I do also like Dani (but less keen on Jack).

I do think that Megan & Wes definitely fancy each other, but that she's very lacking in confidence.

MrsFassy · 26/07/2018 20:22

Rocking there'll be one more couple to go before the final. Their parents will come in, I suspect tomorrow, then the final dumping Sunday.

Tonight it will be them all on their final dates.
