And we are off...again!

OP posts:
Dickybow321 · 23/07/2018 23:32

Dani's fanny flutter comment made me grin

Yeah me too!Grin Dani is so likeable that she can say things that would be a, bit Hmm coming out of somebody else's mouth.

RainySeptember · 24/07/2018 03:27

Laura's had a lot of criticism for being needy but I think Dani's reaction to the lie detector suggests that she'd have been just as bad, worse, if she'd been in some of the positions Laura has found herself in.

And I like Jack1 but didn't like his response to her concern. I think he was very quick to get defensive and angry, as he did when he was challenged about the poster back when Ellie was in there. He's obviously a very smooth salesman, I wonder whether LI is just one long sales pitch for him and we're all being duped. After all, he's admitted treating Ellie badly, sleeping with 80 women and cheating several times.

readysetcake · 24/07/2018 03:56

As much as I like jack, I can’t shake the feeling he’s not completely genuine. Maybe Dani feels the same. Very scripted and set up argument though.

Shame everything is so set up. Wonder if the producers would interfere less if the islanders were naturally a bit more interesting or dramatic.

Re Alex. My husband is also very shy and not really keen on sexy underwear, so maybe he’s just looking for a wears your t shirt to bed type of girl. Which Alex3 probably is really but young women are so programmed to think all men want the Victoria secrets model look she went overboard.

Shortstuff08 · 24/07/2018 05:08

Just catching up now. Jack2 test was painful. I thought laura1 was a dick.

I do think some of the questions are unfair and it's not a simple yes or no answer

Shortstuff08 · 24/07/2018 05:14

Paul's test didn't go well.

I do think the questions that Laura1 asked him were a bit ridiculous give it's early days with them.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 24/07/2018 06:55

It's really sad that the producers seem to be pushing for josh and kaz or wes and Megan, putting dani and Jack in awkward situation.

Whoever was there pressing the green and red lights should be embarrassed!

I think Jack 2 did really well despite some awful questions from laura2!

Bekabeech · 24/07/2018 06:57

Re Alex - remember he was asked to go to Love Island on the back of his Instagram.
And from what I know his Instagram is full of awkward shots of him standing near flash cars. Which I guess started as him putting up a couple of shots like that and then being teased by friends - so doing it as a thing, partly because he found it funny. Then this account becoming a bit cult and do the researchers found it and approached him. (One of my DD does "artistic" pictures of food on hers.)
Add to all that that Alex does have a proper job, and whilst we are desperate for A and E doctors that he'll certainly be able to go back. He's certainly thought about the fact that he doesn't want his patients saying "Aren't you him off the tele who was being ridden by that blonde one.."
And the day before he'd initiated some sexual activity (touching of Johnson) and then found out that everyone else knew about it! And not because of cameras but because Alexandra had told Dani etc.
It's not what he wants as part of his image, and he can't trust Alexandra not to blab every detail of anything that goes on under the covers.
In fact in his shoes I'd be suspicious of her motives.

RainySeptember · 24/07/2018 07:02

Why is everyone constantly saying that the producers are setting things up, scripting and manipulating events? They've already publicly said that they don't, and have to declare it if they do.

I realise that editing might be biased.

Both they, and contestants, have said they might ask you to do something important again if they missed it, and ask for a heads up if you are about to have a big conversation, but that's all.

It's not a set up just because you didn't like the way something happened.

And if stuff appears to happen suddenly or inexplicably it's probably because 24hrs of footage is condensed into 45mins of viewing so we don't, can't, see everything.

RainySeptember · 24/07/2018 07:06

Regarding the lie detector for example. Everyone knows they can be unreliable, which is why suspected criminals don't undergo one and save us the hassle of a court case. But the producers have said that none of it was faked, and would have to say if it was (like Geordie shore, ex on the beach etc)

MissDollyMix · 24/07/2018 07:18

I’m going to sound dead soft here but I hated all the fighting last night. Looks like tonight’s will be more fighting and tears. Not sure I can watch!

Shortstuff08 · 24/07/2018 07:26

I don't think the lie detector was faked or had someone pushing buttons. I do, however, think lie detectors are shit.

Most people would have been nervous in that situation. Especially in jack2 case where is 'ex' is asking questions relating to her and the current girl. And the questions were vague.

I do think Dani over reacted a bit. But I imagine being in there and concentrating on being a couple for the last 8 week's makes things more intense. I don't think jack1 reacted that well, but can see his point too. I can see both sides.

I also think Paul's and Dr Alex's questions were a bit intense to say that they had only been coupled up for a few days.

Laura1 sets herself up in these situations. Imo, she pushes for too much to soon. Freaks the guy out and upsets herself.

Shortstuff08 · 24/07/2018 07:28

Sorry was meant to say lie detectors are shit AND the producers know that and set it up so people are stressed and nervous going into it.

RainySeptember · 24/07/2018 07:42

I expect anyone who was ever strapped to a lie detector was nervous. They never say the 'true' ones are inaccurate though. They're an indication at best, that might support other evidence. Surely in this case it's entertainment and a bit of fun. More fool them if they make life decisions based on it.

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2018 08:05

Yeah but they are encouraged to get their feelings out by the on site psychologist.

So it could be that they were initially going to ask much milder questions but were encouraged to just go for it. Or it could be the confessional intense atmosphere has warped their idea of what's appropriate to ask after seeing them for 5 minutes.

That said, I suspect Laura2s questions were all her own, cos they were batshit and displayed nothing but deep insecurity.

Shortstuff08 · 24/07/2018 08:07

That said, I suspect Laura2s questions were all her own, cos they were batshit and displayed nothing but deep insecurity.

See I think laura1 asked all her own questions.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 24/07/2018 08:15

Laura2's questions showed her to be bitchy and stupid.

How did she think the "is Laura the best looking girl?" one going to go?!

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 24/07/2018 08:25

Laura 2 is Awful

Agreed. Stupid questions, what did she expect.

TenThousandSpoons · 24/07/2018 08:31

Yes Laura 2’s questions really made her go down in my estimation. “Am I a better kisser than Laura1?” WTF! I though Laura1 actually handled that very well “I’ll have to up my technique” and laughing it off even when he said “And you’ve got age on your side!”

Megan’s questions I thought were actually quite sweet “Is Megan wife material?” “Would you be embarrassed taking Megan home to meet the parents?” They suggest she’s serious about a future with Wes and show her insecurities. One thing I do keep wondering about though is when Megan talks about her “past” as a stripper, does Wes know that she is still a glamour model with an insta following of hundreds of thousands? It’s not really all in the past is it?

mnahmnah · 24/07/2018 08:34

I’ve always wondered that about Megan and Wes. She talks about her ‘past’. But it’s not the past. I wonder what he and his family will think about the rubber duck baby oil video, the cocaine snorting pics, the Instagram. I also wonder what he’ll think when he sees her before and after pics of all her ‘work’. It all adds up to a very different person than he knows in the villa

mnahmnah · 24/07/2018 08:36

And if I was laura1 I would not be very impressed with laura2 putting herself against her like that. Not nice.

mnahmnah · 24/07/2018 08:36

*pitting

TatianaLarina · 24/07/2018 08:38

Why is everyone constantly saying that the producers are setting things up, scripting and manipulating events? They've already publicly said that they don't, and have to declare it if they do.

Because they’ve watched enough reality TV to know how it works. And they’ve read the myriad interviews with subjects who discuss the extent of producer involvement.

The only thing they don’t do is script. They do tell people to say certain things from their real life or to have certain discussions on camera. If someone had a conversation not caught on camera they ask people to repeat it for the cameras. In some shows they suggest phrases to use.

TatianaLarina · 24/07/2018 08:41

They never say the 'true' ones are inaccurate though

Some of them say when they think the machine’s finding is bollocks.

But they do seem to believe the test has a legitimacy it does not.

jay55 · 24/07/2018 08:53

It’s interesting Dani and Jack glossed over him going for her because of her dad, for the temptation one which was far more open to interpretation.

Thought it quite unfair on the new couples to be under the same scrutiny as the established ones, there was no way Alex, jack2 or Paul could look good.
It also makes the girls look crazy being so invested after a few days.

3girlmama · 24/07/2018 08:54

Oooh just found this thread! And it's lost the end of the show! Nooooooo 😱
