I’m not sure carpenter Paul would go for Laura really. She has been treated badly in there (Jack, like Wes, was just looking for an excuse), but she comes across as quite needy and I’d think Paul is old enough to avoid that.
Interesting, both Laura and Alex are in there with people out of their comfort zone I think, and neither seem to be handling it well at all. Both seem to push people away.

I’m torn on alex’s prattish behaviour last night - either he’s insecure about Alex3 going with someone else (it’s conceivable given his experience in there so far), or he’s a complete dick (in which case I hold my hands up and say I misjudged him). There is also the conspiracy option that it’s been set up by the producers to make their relationship look less vanilla or one-sided.
DH maintains that last night’s Laura/Sam, Alex/Alex storylines back up his theory about Alex1 and Laura1 - that they’ll couple as friends and then magically discover they have feelings for each other. A coup de foudre and boom, they’re a real challenge to Dani and Jack.

I think it's really unfair to call Laura needy. She's just straightforward and tries to concentrate on one person at a time rather than wondering if she could be happier with someone else. I do think that she would have benefited from some older guys in there from the beginning. I felt really sad for her last night.

Re admiring Alex 1:

I don’t at all. He froze Alexandra out. He’s a coward.

Frankie and Theo (last year islander) are on The Wright Stuff. Both are coming across very well. Intelligent and interesting guys. Why the hell Frankie got zero air time is beyond me.

I think Paul is too mature for LI, he seems so classy compared to the other boys. When they were patronisingly calling him 'Cool Paul' because he is like, so old, I just thought 'no boys, he is a real man' (although the James Blunt thing was a bit cringe!)

I've been backing Alex1 from the start and have totally gone off him now

Totally agree with what you have said about Laura.

@Confused787 I don’t think Laura IS needy, but I think she come across that way in there - not least because of how Wes and Jack have tried to justify their behaviours.

Laura is way more pretty and engaging than any of the other girls. Dani should keep her big nose out.

Paul does nothing for me. Sam is the only one I find attractive.

I have never warmed to Dr Alex, not sure why he's so popular. Yes, he was good, for eg, when he was dealing with Ellie's outburst, but I think he's emotionally thick, for all his apparent brains. It is all about him and his needs dressed up in courteous language.

I remember when he was sitting at the pool with Grace I think, and he was asking her about her family and she was very hesitant, saying that she didn't really have a close family and he just leapt on in there going on about his mother and father saying how he had to call them all the time or something. Grace looked lost frankly, he was spectacularly insensitive there I thought. I think she had something to say there and he just bulldozed over the top of it. Not keen.

I think they just haven't been in there long enough to annoy us yet. I liked Georgia for weeks and look how she turned out.

I still prefer Georgia to most of the other girls - bar Laura and Alexandra.

To be fair, Grace was monosyllabic. You either talked to her or you say in silence.

And her mum was in the press the next day saying they were all really close, run a business together etc.

I do think Alex has shot himself in the foot. I suppose it depends why he went in. If it was to get to the final, he should've faked it for ten days. If it was for the adventure, or to find someone, then I guess he's done the right thing admitting he's not feeling it.

Still not keen on him Rainy, I think he's a tool. Terrible thing to do last night, dropping new Laura's name in as he was backing off Alex. Idiot.

I hope Laura1 somehow manages to ditch her lack of self esteem, and walks off the winner in some way. I like her the best, even though the place is clearly sending her into deeper madness. She is intelligent and has empathy, she can relate and help others, just hopeless at assessing her own situation.
She's the one I want to sit down with and say 'Look woman, do you not realise this and this and this about yourself...' .etc etc. I don't give two hoots about the others.
