Pete, Manu, and Colin too!

The instant and pop up restaurants! The challenges! Cook offs!!

Contestants to love and loath!! And probably a bit of food too...

Do not Google anything

I know they all have to talk out what they are doing, but Hat Man just seems so self satisfied doing it. I can imagine it being something he does normally.

I'm definitely liking this series better than the last few years. But the group 1 v group 2 is making elimination round silly.

they should come out anonymously (though I suppose with some couples it'd be obviously who did what!!)

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 22/08/2018 21:34

I’m not liking the group 1v2 thing. It’s just making the scoring all petty and people who deserve to get booted are stopping in.

Can’t believe the Italian brothers got through. Their dish wasn’t anywhere near the mark. They’re so far up their own backsides, so smug

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/08/2018 22:17

The partisan support of your own group makes no sense. Every other couple is your competition, so doesn't make a difference. Unless there's a pop up restaurant group 1 v 2 or something coming up?
Even then, take the chance to get rid of your crap group mates in advance, so they don't drag you down!
It's Russians all the way for me "ooh, it's a soup" Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 22/08/2018 23:22

I guess they don’t do it anonymously because they do it with the judging panel later? But I agree it would be a different feel anyway to the panel.

I found myself cheering on mr and Mrs Hat. I think it was because Mrs hat was the one doing all the talking for once and she’s an endearing Sesame Street character.

HesterMacaulay · 23/08/2018 00:09

I'm enjoying the challenges but not liking the group 1 vs group 2 stuff.

I also don't get why the people's choice reward of double vote is seen as an advantage? How does it benefit the pair voting?

MiddleClassProblem · 23/08/2018 01:04

No I miss real advantages like extra prep or first choice of ingredients etc.

It’s hard to even tell how much of a difference their scores made as we hand no idea what the teams are scoring individually.

StripySocksAndDocs · 23/08/2018 04:00

no advantage- though it's better than the year that the advantage meant they were safe for the next x amount of challenges, which meant they actually didn't take part.

can't recall If it was last year or the year before and that x was about two or three each time and we barely saw some of them (the good ones) cook. it also meant that the crappy ones got lots of practice and advice so they had the advantage at the end when under time pressure in the studio (having already done it multiple times).

OP posts:
HesterMacaulay · 23/08/2018 07:37

Oh yes I'd forgotten that! The winning pair disappearing and not cooking for what seemed like ages ... I agree it's much better to have all teams cooking in every round.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/08/2018 09:49

Yes there was one year where it happened to a few teams and a year where those bbq boys just went straight to the quarterfinals or semifinals.

ALemonyPea · 23/08/2018 15:42

Tactically, voting the other team off makes sense as you’ve less people to please and cook for.

StripySocksAndDocs · 23/08/2018 17:25

You mean in the challenges? I suppose that is something.

I got puzzled there for a while, thinking there's fewer people no matter who you vote for!!!

OP posts:
HesterMacaulay · 23/08/2018 17:56

That suggests that the producers expect the two groups to vote against each other ALemonyPea which seems wrong. and encourages tactical voting.

But at the same time still makes the 'advantage' worthless because each group has a double voting pair so surely they cancel each other out? - assuming both pairs vote tactically.

It's still a non- prize in my view.

ALemonyPea · 23/08/2018 19:28

Oh I definitely think there is tactful voting, especially from team 2.

HesterMacaulay · 23/08/2018 19:44

But how does the double vote make a difference if both groups have it?

StripySocksAndDocs · 23/08/2018 20:49

lamb and pineapple: wronger than wrong. I love lamb, and also pineapple. But it is evil to heat pineapple up, and it is twisted to serve it with meat. Only a sicko puts it with savory.

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 23/08/2018 21:18

Oh no. I love ham and pineapple pizza.

Lamb and pineapple though, bizarre!

StripySocksAndDocs · 23/08/2018 21:25

ALemonyPea. liking pineapple on pizza. Shock

We all have our faults: some people's faults are worse than others though.

Happy with the winners and losers of this challenge :)

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/08/2018 22:24

Pineapple is OK in some Asian style dishes. But not on pizza and certainly not with lamb!
Those chicken wings looked tasty, bit clearly weren't. Pork burgers and pitta breads were the pick of the bunch and rightly so.
Enjoyed Valeria parroting Aussie small talk at the guests " bit I don't care about the answers" Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 23/08/2018 22:49

Grilled pineapple can be nice.

Lamb is such a strong flavoured meat though. It was a crazy idea.

I know Georgie and Alicia are unlikely to go but haha! to them being at elimination house. I’m glad they’re being shown they’re not as amazing as they think.

Sonya and Hadil are really stand out like Tyson and Amy were and the bbq boys. Those seasons you had a clear front runner who ended up winning but even they had challenges where the food wasn’t great but Sonya and Hadil haven’t faultered on their cooking at all yet, just timing issues. I think they have the right strategy in pleasing the judges rather than going for the public vote as you’re guaranteed to be safe.

ALemonyPea · 24/08/2018 19:45

Nope, you’re wrong about the pineapple, it’s lovely on pizza. Also like pineapple on top of gammon mmmmm

StripySocksAndDocs · 24/08/2018 20:23

This is awful. Not only is one amongst us, mentioning no names ALemonyPea, a sicko but they are proud of it.

I think they should leave, and take their persecuted pineapple with them

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 24/08/2018 21:00

Pineapple on gammon will do at a pinch ( although egg is vastly superior), but a pizza has bread and tomato sauce as well, it's just ... too much.
Not keen on chicken on pizza either!
The Vietnamese picnic would have been my choice tonight, although the Italian also looked nice.
Why were they trimming their schnitzels though? I WANT all those crispy edges hanging out of my focaccia!!

ALemonyPea · 24/08/2018 21:27

Find, I will go, and I’ll start my own pineapple appreciation MKR thread. Then we will see who is right. 😁
