Yes, I think Wes comes across as someone who would be a good employee. He does have a lot about him. So does Jack. I think if you actually had a conversation with them about Brexit or something they might actually have some views.

The girls...... Not so much. Sad

Moonkissedlegs · 10/07/2018 13:37

Like, the two girls who supposedly have 'serious jobs' both came across as airheads on the telly.

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2018 13:38

I think there is an element to who applies to go on to this program will dictate who the actual contestants are. It will attract a certain demographic...

I also think wes comes across as mature and measured for his age. I don't see any real idiocy there.

As for Rosie, I think we don't know if she chose to leave after qualification or if she was let go. She was a costing lawyer, so may have went the cilex route, ie only qualified to work in that one area.

I'm not sure, but it seemed she worked for a not very good firm, like a no win no fee scenario, and costing would make sense there (client/defendent liability) .

It's not really clear. She did say she got a training contract though, so she may well be fully qualified, she may also have left of her own violition to do this. She may be clever but she's clearly not smart.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 13:39

If the girls were happy to be single in there, we would see more of their personality.
But the game is about pairing up whether you like it or not.

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 13:43

that's 3 out of how many (24 altogether so far?) have 'educated' jobs? Not exactly a 'fair mix'?

No. And to be fair I wouldn’t have picked out Rosie or Alex as more intelligent than the others.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 13:45

I think Wes is immature.

MissDollyMix · 10/07/2018 13:45

I also think poor Alex is dying for an intellectual conversation. He mentioned previously that he loves politics. I bet he'd be more interested to discover about the cabinet falling apart during his time in the villa than he would be about the football results!

tumpymummy · 10/07/2018 13:45

moonkissedlegs Dani is a 'barmaid apparently!

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 13:47

Ha no wonder Alex is unlucky with the girls if his chosen subjects are politics and rugby.

Moonkissedlegs · 10/07/2018 13:48

I think Wes is immature.

Yeah but he is only 20. I was a right twat when I was 20!

MissDollyMix · 10/07/2018 13:48

I used to work as a barmaid when I was a student. It was one of my favourite jobs! Much better than the sitting in an office twiddling with spreadsheets jobs I do now!

MissDollyMix · 10/07/2018 13:49

Nothing wrong with politics and rugby @unique1986 I'd be happy to chat to a bloke about those subjects.

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 13:51

I love a man who can talk about politics.

I suspect Alex would pompously lecture me though, despite my not being very interested in his opinions.

cathyandclare · 10/07/2018 13:51

I think Alex is very witty and well spoken. He's aware of his awkwardness and makes fun of himself, with the schmouldering and twerking. If I had to spend an evening chatting with any of them, it would be him for sure.

But then I'm a doctor and 'provincial', so maybe I'm biased!!

SmileSweetly · 10/07/2018 13:51

Surely young people who are focussed on their careers (at the beginning stages of their careers) don't apply for LI, which would mean taking 8 weeks away.

Which is why we see PT's, hairdressers, waiting staff & students etc. The types of profession where you can step away for eight weeks.

There must be people in the above professions who are intelligent and have interesting conversations....tbh that's not why I tune into LI though, it's for lighthearted entertainment and drama maybe even comic relief and the present contestants provide that in bucketloads.

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2018 13:52

I'm not sure why being in a couple prevents you seeing a girls personality but not a boys?

I'm not sure they come across as airheads as such.

Samira I don't think is an airhead at all.
Laura neither , although I believe her to be emotionally immature and quite needy,
Megan I think is quite damaged for some reason we don't know, I'm suspecting bullying at school, something isn't right there.
Georgia is in further education, it says she's a student at York. I don't think she comes across as an airhead.
Ellie apparantly ended a serious relationship to enter the villa because she couldn't "miss this shot at fame". I think she was simply unemployed before entering the villa.
Rosie was clearly clever and well educated but quite unstable and attention seeking.
Dani I think wants to follow in her dads footsteps but is going about it thr wrong way,
Kaz is a make up artist and I think appears quite intelligent.

Grace came across as not very intelligent I'm afraid to say, as did the blonde one who thought Brexit meant no more trees, Kendall appeared quite intelligent, but not over her last relationship. Zara was an advisor within the dept of education, but seemed to be very immature and struggled to communicate.

So for me a mixed bag.
.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 13:57

Frankie Foster, 22, is a business management student and a fitness coach from Cheltenham.

Prior to Love Island, he played professional rugby and has also worked as a model.

Just had to look it up, as no idea what he did at all.

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 13:57

I think Alex is very witty

Compared to what? Shock

Compared to Grace, certainly.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 13:59

Everyone on twitter said wow of course Grace and Frankie left as they were given the least screen time...
Hopefully the producers realise we are not that stupid!

Oh and if you think this year is bad, imagine what next year will be like!

MissDollyMix · 10/07/2018 14:00

Oh my days! Hayley! My 5 year old is more intelligent than her!
I don't think Georgia is a student at York, she's from York, I think she's studying drama down in London somewhere.
I agree that most young people with half a brain would not apply for this show in the first place. It takes a special type of exhibitionist to want to appear on a reality tv series that would probably end any chance you had of having a 'serious' career. I can't really see Alex going back to his day job after this (shame because he comes across as a lovely doctor and NHS needs all the decent doctors it can get!)

areyoubeingserviced · 10/07/2018 14:00

Does anyone actually admit that they watch Love Island?
I told a colleague that I watched it and she was absolutely horrified that a relatively well educated would watch such ‘trash’

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 14:01

Georgia is a student in York, I highly doubt she’s at York with her would of and could ofs.

She’s probably doing performing arts at an ex poly.

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 14:02

I don't think Georgia is a student at York, she's from York, I think she's studying drama down in London somewhere.

Ah yes that’s right, she’s at college in London.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 14:02

I find Alex very placid and on one level.

Not that I watch it much, but they should cast doctors and nurses like the ones on Holby City, easy on the eye with flaws and personality.
Just go into hospitals and interview them.

unique1986 · 10/07/2018 14:03

but not actors obv...
