Haha! Fond of him in a strictly professional sense Grin

balljuggla · 30/06/2018 23:53

Alex Macqueen is seriously smart. He has a first in Eng Lit from Durham, an M.Phil from Cambridge, was a barrister (as mentioned) and also worked at the House of Commons at one stage! It's not hard to see how his characterisation of Julius is so perfect.

Some of my favourite moments are when Malcolm is kind. It adds a great layer to how we normally see him behave. He's so protective of Sam when she's crying during his sacking, boosts Glen when he has that epic meltdown during The Rise of the Nutters, then hugs him and apologises after punching him at the conference. He's even nice to Terri and says sorry after initially bollocking her when she publicly questions his actions one day.

That reminds me...during the conference episode Capaldi's delivery of the line "Fucking...fuck me!" when informed about 'Fistygate' should have won a prize all by itself!

I have a coworker that I greet with "have you ever had to clean up you own mother's piss?"

argumentativefeminist · 01/07/2018 07:15

balljuggla Gentle Malcolm gives me feelings especially when paired with his snuggly fleece. The bit when he's at home on the sofa throwing Hula Hoops at the TV gives me fuzzy feelings.

Still watch TTOI over and over and it never seems less relevant, would love to see what they'd have made of Brexit and other news stories. The best bits are all the little throwaway jokes like when everyone takes the piss out of Glen or Phil, or when Ollie's trying to be smooth, or Malcolm and Jamie together etc.

After Malcolm I love Peter, all the tired cynicism - "Sorry darling, I have to go - I think the bailiffs are coming to take away my will to live."

Lottapianos · 01/07/2018 08:10

'I have a coworker that I greet with "have you ever had to clean up you own mother's piss?"'

LOVE this! I watched that episode the other night, it's pure joy

MissFitton · 01/07/2018 08:37

This thread has reminded me to do another rewatch

Such brilliant writing and inventive swearing, never tire of it. Capaldi shows is in this just how much he was wasted in Doctor Who.

'Are you a fucking horse?' gets trotted out here quite often.

balljuggla · 01/07/2018 08:45

Mannion's weary cynicism is a joy:

"Attention seeking tent based twattery"
"I'm supposed to be commenting on a suicide, not a fucking camel race"
"I couldn't have looked more ridiculous if I'd announced it dressed as a mermaid with scallops over my tits!"

argumentativefeminist · 01/07/2018 09:12

Terri's "air hostess" look when she's trying to impress Man-yum is what I think of every time I try to get dressed up for a nice event. Blush

It is so so brilliantly observed. Love lots of the comments above, feels like every line hits the spot and the characters utterly convincing.

Favourite of mine, Terri on Emma "Ever the charmless minor royal".

whatashower · 01/07/2018 23:11

Hands up who has caved and is watching TTOI all over again 🤣✋🏻

argumentativefeminist · 01/07/2018 23:14

👋👋 Tell us your fav bits as you go along @whatashower!

I have a hospital appointment that will involve hours of waiting tomorrow.. I have downloaded the whole last series and i am actually looking forward to it!

argumentativefeminist · 02/07/2018 00:31

Good luck Betrand, will be thinking of you. Which isn't a very Malciavellian thing to say, but hey ho. Or should that be yes and ho? 😂

Excellent plan Bertrand. Hope all goes well

alldaysleeper · 02/07/2018 13:50

I channel Julius when I need to get away from a situation at work "excuse me, I need to get myself a maize based snack"

argumentativefeminist · 02/07/2018 14:27

allday Oh my god I forgot about that bit. Iconic Julius 😂😂

Lottapianos · 02/07/2018 15:57

Grin allday

Julius is full of those sorts of gems. I love
'im walking on, Im Ian Botham, I'm walking on for Hospice Care'

DickensianHysteric · 02/07/2018 16:05

I love it! Must re watch soon, the first series that Nicola Murray is in is my favourite (series 3?)
My favourite line is Malcom to Terri: "When I want your help I'll give you the special signal which is me being sectioned under the fucking mental health act." Grin

BertrandRussell · 02/07/2018 17:30

Frustratingly, for the first time in recorded history I didn't have to wait at the hospital!! I'm going to have a binge this evening.

Hisashiburi · 02/07/2018 19:28

I love it! My favourite episode is the one with "bat people" 😀

BertrandRussell · 02/07/2018 22:34

Fuck me, Peter Capaldi can act, can’t he?

EsmesBees · 02/07/2018 22:35

Cant believe no one has mentioned Jamie yet. Spinners and Losers is my favourite hour of television of all time. The bit where the ex minister says something like 'things are not black and white, there are shades of grey' and Jamie shoots back 'yeah, and I'm looking at about 15 of them right now' makes me howl

argumentativefeminist · 02/07/2018 22:36

This thread has given me renewed love for Julius. Hope you got to watch some tonight Bertrand! There's some excellent bits in that episode, @Hisashiburi. Malcolm and his "fucking Fanta" has been me in this heatwave 🙄

OP posts:
argumentativefeminist · 02/07/2018 22:38

Cross posted! Esmes Jamie is an absolute doll, I totally adore him. If Malc wasn't happily ever after in love with Sam, he'd be with Jamie for sure. 😂
