@drspouse they filmed the Welsh and bilingual versions at the same time, scene by scene: a big ask of the actors as they had to learn two scripts at the same time.

I've loved the series - it's beautifully done, especially the uncomfortable shifts between feeling sorry for Dylan and seeing how monstrous he is - but I was really interested to see that the Welsh title, Craith, doesn't mean hidden - it means scar/scars. Personally, I think that title works so much better, as it encompasses the scars, physical and mental, of so many of the characters.

drspouse · 19/07/2018 09:31

That is a lot of filming for the bilingual actors (I think almost everyone so far has used both? Maybe not Mali's dad/sister and the drug dealer, and Lowri has only used Welsh with her patients so they wouldn't have had to film those twice. And Sam, the pregnant wife, only used Welsh with the DS).

diddl · 19/07/2018 17:17

I wonder why they do 2 versions?

I'd have been OK with an all Welsh subtitled version.

Seems odd to do a Welsh/English version that still needs subtitling for anywhere outside of Wales.

petrolpump28 · 20/07/2018 16:57

wow impressive job. Which actors do you think are equally comfortable in both languages?

liquidrevolution · 20/07/2018 17:02

Episode 7 is on iPlayer now. Really enjoying this series and I don't mind the Welsh at all. Have no idea what the last episode has in store for us!

feska5 · 20/07/2018 17:05

I agree with 5000fingers it does have a Scandi feel. Beautifully filmed. It’s dark and intriguing . I don’t normally enjoy sub titles but am enjoying this.

mydogisthebest · 21/07/2018 12:06

Me and DH are enjoying this. We both find the scenery really bleak though. Where did they find that cottage in the woods? So dark and horrible inside. I really hope no one really lives there

drspouse · 21/07/2018 19:07

I was actually thinking the cottage itself could be beautified a bit. The woods make it scary though.

Rebecca36 · 21/07/2018 19:14

Where can I find it to watch online?

HiHoToffee · 21/07/2018 19:17

BBC iPlayer

Rebecca36 · 21/07/2018 19:19

Thanks for that, I'll try and watch it. Looks good.

PickAChew · 21/07/2018 19:20

It's on iplayer.

drspouse · 21/07/2018 20:45

When will the final episode be up do we know?

HiHoToffee · 22/07/2018 10:25

It is on BBC Wales on Wednesday 9pm and BBC 4 on Saturday 9pm, guessing it will be on iPlayer after Wednesday.

drspouse · 22/07/2018 21:37

I'll be stalking iPlayer!

5000FingersofDrT · 23/07/2018 14:38

mydogisthebest and drspouse I stumbled across an online interview with some of the actors about the series - apparently they built the entire cottage just for this. It's all a set.

I'm really glad Megan got away. Although yes, you can't help feeeling an unwilling, sneaking sympathy for Dylan, monstrous though he clearly is. His appalling mother is at the root of it all.

mydogisthebest · 24/07/2018 11:10

That interesting. I just assumed it was a real cottage.

Yes I feel a bit of sympathy for Dylan. I hate his mother though

Molecat93 · 24/07/2018 17:48

None of the actors are English.

petrolpump28 · 24/07/2018 18:57

so who do you think is most comfortable speaking Welsh?

Frolicacid · 24/07/2018 22:07

Just caught up to episode 7. Really enjoying it. Much more than hinterland.
Can’t believe we missed the Welsh version.

pertol I would say they are all very comfortable speaking in Welsh and English. Most of the actors have been in Welsh language stuff previously.

liquidrevolution · 25/07/2018 22:11

Last episode on iPlayer now!

MyFriendFlicker · 26/07/2018 11:59

Just up to date on this. I'm also a Hinterland fan. I love the landscape and brooding
I have never got into Scani stuff because I hate sub titles - and I've really tried. However this has enough English to keep it watchable and I find I no longer notice the sub titles.

Grim, dark stuff. I wondered at one point whether the child knew English but she eventually say a few words. I think she's meant to be six years old but the actress must be about 12? Which of the women do we think was her mother?

LillianaVess · 26/07/2018 20:42

It’s a good show when you feel some sympathy for the “villain”.

I have a question for any Welsh people though, Dylan’s accent seemed to be different to everyone else’s by quite a bit does anyone know where he would be from?

drspouse · 26/07/2018 21:06

I think Nia's mum must have been the girl with the bracelet.
My estimate was 8 or 9?
We can't see the last episode on our iPlayer so waiting till it comes on!

Citrasun · 26/07/2018 22:18

LilianaVess Dylan's accent is the only one that sounds as though he's from North Wales, which I think the actor actually is. I think the rest of the actors are mainly from South or Mid Wales. The North Wales accent is quite different to more Southern areas and it is a bit jarring, to me, that the accents aren't right for the area.

Having said that, I am really enjoying the series.
