babygrand · 21/05/2007 22:10

£50- £70 per week

brimfull · 21/05/2007 22:12

good lord id that all, that's slave labour!

lisad123 · 21/05/2007 22:12

"cheap labour wanted, for spoil brats or just brats. Perks include, small smelly room, not having any clue of what exspected and having to listen to boss moan, when you dont do it right. Also chance to improve english and meet lovely chavs or people that prepend to be rish and posh."

babygrand · 21/05/2007 22:16

Not necessarily. Some people provide a nice house and working environment and get treated like shit in return.

paros · 21/05/2007 22:18

That woman has marks all over her body where people keep touching her with a ten foot barge pole .

TwoIfBySea · 21/05/2007 22:18

Yogimum I had that with a family I worked with in the US. After I left they decided to employ au pairs instead as they cost about 1/3 of what I did! But the poor girls had to do the same job for the same long hours, just less pay.

The mother wrote a book on how to chose an au pair and I am desperate to read it to see what she says but don't want to increase her sales!

Eowyn · 21/05/2007 22:19

I recognised the wierd looking woman too, so what has she been on?

elasticbandstand · 21/05/2007 22:20

library.........two

pickledpear · 21/05/2007 22:23

looks like she on something strong.....and highly addictive

TwoIfBySea · 21/05/2007 22:24

elastic, already thought of that but the book has only been released in the US unfortunately!

roisin · 21/05/2007 22:25

Scary programme. Why do people think they can "have it all" and pay peanuts and get quality childcare?

expatinscotland · 21/05/2007 22:28

I'd have thought if you 'economised' on anything it wouldn't be the care and charge of your own children.

NKF · 21/05/2007 22:31

Can someone summarise? TV in use.

moodlumthehoodlum · 21/05/2007 22:32

I think Jilly probably thinks she hasn't economised on her childcare, particularly as she is so generous when sharing her champagne.

chonky · 21/05/2007 22:40

pmsl at Jilly writing a new ad - hate to think what its says. Anally retentive doesn't even begin to describe her. Poor au pair (and poor Poppy).

Why, oh why, do people do these progs?

moodlumthehoodlum · 21/05/2007 22:42

I agree. Poor poppy.

OP posts:
donnie · 21/05/2007 22:43

what frightened me was the schedule the mother typed out fro Poppy which included 15 mins harp practice every morning - at the age of , what , 8? also, the mother may have the legs of a younger woman but when you look her age you just do NOT wear skirts that short. end of!!

tinymum · 21/05/2007 22:44

Why do people expect these young girls, who are not mothers and have no childcare experience, to come to their homes and do such an important job for peanuts? Incredible.

RTKangaMummy · 21/05/2007 22:52

I know of one mnetter who used to boast that she paid her au pair very cheaply and that she worked from about 8am - 6pm

She had 1 little girl then and has since had a little boy - now with a new au pair

I used to get soooooooooo angry with her

She paid peanuts and would come here and boast about it

WotzanameOoohhhjarmaflip · 21/05/2007 23:10

I know its late and a good guess told me their would be a thread for this.

I just wanted to add, that reality TV can make you quite surprised for different reasons. For instance...

The 'interview' in the garden, with the dad, the mother and the American au pair was strange.
Their son who was about 5 years old was riding a petrol lawn mower and was pulling her along, behind him while the American woman was sat on a toy go cart!

What was that all about ?

Poor kid looked like he was going fall off and get mowed, he was just about hanging on.

Grrrr · 22/05/2007 11:18

The dad did explain that there were no blades on the mower anymore.

Why can't I get an au-pair out here in the sticks, why do they all want to be in the home counties/London being treated like slave labour ?

I have alternative arrangements now but seriously, when I looked into it some time ago, agencies said that its likely that they could place an au-pair with me but I shouldn't expect them to stay longer than 4-6 months as they all want to be near London really. Is it really worth it to work for women with demands and issues like Jilly ?
