Hi all

Here is the next thread for those who are watching The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 on Channel 4. Please don't put any spoilers on this - the other thread (for those in other countries who are watching ahead of the UK) is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3239228-Handmaids-Tale-Season-2-SPOILERS-VIEWING-AHEAD-OF-UK-SREENING.

Those brides looked very young.

Hygge · 17/06/2018 21:34

Maybe it was a way for the other Commander to keep Nick in Gilead?

Perhaps he will say they can't move Nick now because he's a newly-wed.

kashleesi · 17/06/2018 21:34

I’ve never yet posted here but wtaf Shock children?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/06/2018 21:35

Who decides on nick marrying? Is it his own choice or was that the “promotion” Waterford wanted for him?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 17/06/2018 21:35

How old?! They're children!

Crinkle77 · 17/06/2018 21:35

That wedding ceremony was truly creepy.

Soubriquet · 17/06/2018 21:35

That was what my Dh said

"They are kids"

I suppose that's their reward for their service

A nice virginal bride

I wonder if Serena will try to claim baby Angela as her "mother" is not caring for her properly.

Maybe Serena feels she could love Angela

Bringonspring · 17/06/2018 21:35

Crikey! I didn’t see that coming.

EvilTwins · 17/06/2018 21:36

Was not expecting that.

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/06/2018 21:36

Those brides look about 14 or 15.

RedorBlack · 17/06/2018 21:36

They probably get assigned as wives as soon as they hit puberty to maximise chances of fertility Sad

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/06/2018 21:36

We’re those children?? I missed it up until nick was walking away looking at june.

Efferlunt · 17/06/2018 21:36

Urgh I felt my stomach lurch when they lifted the veils.

Oldowl · 17/06/2018 21:36

It is like 'married at first sight'. Those brides look like teenage girls, just like Afghan forced/arranged marriages.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 17/06/2018 21:36

The mass weddings are in the book. Get the girls married as soon as poss so they can start having babies...

Roussette · 17/06/2018 21:37

Agree kala I hear the crap that the AG in the USA is coming out with spouting the Bible and I worry about the world

If they wear white, they are virgins aren't they?

CurbsideProphet · 17/06/2018 21:37

Those girls were all under 16 surely Sad

I think you're right Hygge that commander clearly knows that Fred is up to all sorts, hence why he commented something about having trustworthy staff.

colouringinagain · 17/06/2018 21:37

I reckon they are girls who have now started their periods - potentially fertile?

Does this mean he stays (Commander's plan) or goes (Fred's)?

kalapattar · 17/06/2018 21:38

For one moment, I thought Hannah's face would appear under a veil. But she would be too young even for Gilead?

CurbsideProphet · 17/06/2018 21:38

I've just realised the wives wear different shades of green depending on whether they're a mother, "expectant", or not a mother.

Soubriquet · 17/06/2018 21:39

White indicates purity so virginal?

colouringinagain · 17/06/2018 21:39

So did I kala

Hygge · 17/06/2018 21:39

In the book the brides were very young teens I think.

RandomMess · 17/06/2018 21:40

Another evening of cheery viewing SadGrin
