Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:

Think the mother’s/lawyer’s argument was that the comedian including nasty, sexual material that could be emotionally harmful to his son . They didn’t have a court agreement in place about residency, so guess it was possible that she could reduce access. Could sort of see both sides. Not nice though!

Dozer · 26/04/2018 07:21

Material about his ex, that is.

Dulra · 26/04/2018 08:59

I'm no divorce lawyer but I couldn't quite understand why the wife of the comedian was using access to the son as leverage in the bargaining. It's not up to the mother to 'grant' it. (Certainly not when any of my friends got divorced anyway)
Absolutely agree I found that whole exchange pretty deplorable to use a child as a bargaining chip and hold access against the father unless he complied. Definitely did not hold mums in a very good light and I think it was completely unrealistic that children would be used in this way. I was also fuming when NW used her own feelings of anger at her own father to influence how she treated this Dad, very unprofessional.

i really hope she resists Christie ( i did have tolook up the Dutch blokes's name) - how much was the surgery?
the woman playing the ' other woman' looked familiar, what she been in before?

louise5754 · 26/04/2018 11:51

She was in shameless. Not sure what else.

MissEliza · 26/04/2018 13:40

Dulra I had a friend who tried to withhold contact with her children to get certain things off her ex but it simply wasn't up to her. Her ex went through all the various stages and was awarded contact by the courts. That's why I'm sure mums can't just use it as a bargaining chip.
She's an ex friend because I just couldn't bear to watch how she was using her children to get at her ex. I understood her hurt but she was damaging her children emotionally.

Willow2017 · 26/04/2018 14:33

Tbh i only watched it for Anthony Head😀 but i think it could have potential. Think there was a lot of scene setting this week so maybe it will calm down a bit as surely they cant keep up that amount of characters dysfunctional lives every week?

But i agree AH is far too young and gorgeous to be the dad😀

QueenDandelion · 26/04/2018 16:35

Then again, he did (allegedly) dodge 30 years of childcare, maybe that's why he's kept his looks and figure :o

grinandtonics · 26/04/2018 16:54

You are exceptionally naive if you don't think some mothers use their children as bargaining chips to punish their fathers.

Some really are repulsive and don't deserve their children.

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 16:55

Maybe mum didn’t want him near her girls ?

Xenia · 26/04/2018 17:04

I'm a lawyer and I thought you never used leverage over access in return for something else. Didn't they have a legal consultant for the programme.
I thought I would like it but I didn't may be because I don't tend to watch comedy.

Also I found it a bit unbelievable in parts and the far too many mixed marriages like 97% white Northumberland in Vera always being about 50% black went a bit far.

southeastdweller · 26/04/2018 17:38

The other woman is played by Maggie O’Neill and about ten years ago she was in Eastenders as Suzy Branning.

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 17:50

south, ( waves!) oh yes, its so annoying when you see a face and think ' hang on, who is she and what was she in?'
of course, another Branning.

Slartybartfast · 26/04/2018 17:57

Showing my age but I liked Stephen Tompkinson in Drop the Dead Donkey but have not liked him in anything since.

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 18:24

I saw Stephen T in Art in 1998! He was good on stage.
He hasn't really aged much.

MummaGiles · 26/04/2018 18:40

As a portrayal of life as a lawyer it was, as is always the case, entirely unrealistic. Lawyers from other firms just walking into your office? Gah! No! Same thing happens in Suits (but I suspend belief for that).

Generally though I found it hard to follow - too many people introduced too quickly. The only character I felt invested in was Meera Syal’s. Will give it another week.

Purplemond · 26/04/2018 18:42

i like Stephen Tompkinson in DCI banks but didnt like him in troilled, not that i particularly like that anyway

Wilma55 · 26/04/2018 18:51

The Anthony Head character fell in love with the nanny and has been in America for the last (?) years.....so I read.

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 19:09

He was miscast as Banks I thought. Not the Banks I had in my head!

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 19:11

I want meeras character to 'grow a pair' and screw him to the floor!
She will - I hope.

SofieMonde · 26/04/2018 21:26

bitch ex wife is back in eastenders again

Show was disjointed characters a bit flat one dimensional but wardrobe made up for it...a bit
Mother's dancing was very weird.

Think this one is just going to be a Spring guilty pleasure for people to watch while waiting for summer

Hottenbutt...is ....hot

How can people wear white jackets/ tops? I would mess it up or spill something on it within seconds! The sisters clothes were more practical.

Slartybartfast · 27/04/2018 07:35

I was sure she was going to spill the coffee on her way to work
