Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:
SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 24/04/2018 23:03

I really wanted to like it but thought the introduction to the characters and the "scene setting" was quite clunky and disjointed. I will give it a try next week if only to see what clothes and shoes Hannah is wearing.

At the moment I am more interested in the Syal/Tompkinson divorce story than the main characters or their family dynamics.

T00much · 24/04/2018 23:06

I was disappointed and confused!
Had to rewind & pause the texts too

OneInAMillionYou · 24/04/2018 23:21

Another one in agreement here, I really wanted to love it. We need some quality drama on mainstream television.

Thought the sisters were cliches.

Will give it another episode as I too adore Nicola Walker.

ijustdintknowwhattodo · 24/04/2018 23:28

I loved it but I often take style over substance with these types of programmes, saves me getting too heavily invested as I very rarely get to sit and watch the full hour. Loved the clothes and shoes! Oh and Hanna's house was amazing!

blueskypink · 24/04/2018 23:29

I just wanted to follow what was going on with Meera Syal's character - the rest was all a bit too full on. Not a fan of Nicola Walker - she always plays herself and has a very stylised delivery.

Kinraddie · 24/04/2018 23:41

I liked it, will definitely keep watching. Nice to see Nicola Walker getting to play a more glamorous character for a change. When she spotted the man in the park at the start of the episode I thought it was an ex, couldn't believe it was her dad!

Choccywoccyhooha · 24/04/2018 23:49

I love Nicola Walker too, but I found this quite confusing and difficult to get into.

YippeeTipTap · 25/04/2018 00:03

I thought the same as everyone else. It wasn't quite hitting the mark was it. It was a bit disjointed and the camera work/editing was noticeably poor.

I could see the texts ok 😁. I guess you lot don't have the MN obligatory giant widescreen TV

The smug smooth guy was really irritating

I might watch the next episode though.

NetballHoop · 25/04/2018 00:07

Well I thought it was great. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

eloisesparkle · 25/04/2018 00:11

The Dutch man was very handsome.

PollyBanana · 25/04/2018 00:14

I really hate it when they just show a shot of a phone and expect us to be able to read the texts.
I don't have a 62inch tv!

NurseButtercup · 25/04/2018 00:59

I enjoyed it - I'm all the way. It's nice to see Nicola Walker well groomed for a change.

I was relieved that the character played by Meera Syal moved quickly to get lawyered up. Did anybody else gasp when she circled the cost of the boob job on the bank statement?? I'm looking forward to the back and forth between the mom/daughter/sister as divorce lawyers in this case.

The only thing that doesn't ring true (in my opinion) was that she'd be wearing those heels for the walk into work? but yet her younger sister had on trainers and changed into heels when she arrived at the office.

I'd also be pissed off and get a new job if my 70 year old mum wasn't stepping back from the family business.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode.

Dulra · 25/04/2018 08:07

I enjoyed it. Yes was a bit clunky but I thinking it is setting a scene for good stories and the houses, clothes style are just fab. Looking forward to next week

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/04/2018 08:41

There was a bit much exposition but I guess they needed to set the scene.
I could have done with less of the comedian and his agent ex wife, hopefully the Goldie story will come to the fore.

Purplemond · 25/04/2018 08:55

i didnt mind it so will probably stick with it, i use to like Stephen Tompkinson in DCI banks but anything since i always find myself hating his character

T00much · 25/04/2018 09:08

Yes where did her younger sister put those trainers. She had them in her hand then when she came out of the lift they were gone. Her bag didn't look big enough to hold them

southeastdweller · 25/04/2018 10:39

Agree with a lot of what's been mentioned. Stephen Mangan playing the same character AGAIN and there were lots of clunky scenes and clunky dialogue. I hope there's more to the Goldie divorce story than the husband having a fling with her friend. I don't like the casting of Anthony Head as Nicola Walker's father, he looks too young.

I was getting confused trying to work out how all the characters know each other.

T00much · 25/04/2018 10:44

Yes I thought he was an ex southeast

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 10:50

Oh I loved it! Surprised so many people didn't. I could watch Nicola Walker read the phone book, but I liked the script too and a lot of the little details of the interactions with family members. Poor Meera Syal's story was a bit cliched and I hope it gets more interesting, but she was great too. And lots of other actors I like as well. Stephen Mangan I agree was a blah bit of casting but he's kind of a blah character and it's a woman-led story.

And yes Nicola Walker looks fabulous in it and I have to say so does her Dutch fancy bit :o

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 10:59

I can't look at Anthony Head without seeing him in the 1980s Gold Blend ads, no matter what else he does. But at least they didn't cast Bill Nighy! He would have hammed it up and stolen all his scenes.

MissEliza · 25/04/2018 11:07

I watched a little bit. I love Nicola Walker's makeup. Random comment I know!

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 11:09

i found it a tad confusing and the people in it are all pretty horrible - i bet the mother stopped the dad having contact. Nicola Walker is always good in things, but she seems miscast as a hard nosed lawyer with a softer centre etc. i sort of drifted off and lost interest ( as i will never be a hard nosed divorce lawyer with a lovely home and tons of money etc etc)

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 11:12

The Dutch guy is lovely ( agreed!) a bit like Jamie Dornan.

If i stick with it, chances are we will see a bit more of him ( in bed with her i guess - it usually happens like that in these type of dramas. I do see an affair on the cards)

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/04/2018 11:15

I couldn't recognise Nicola Walker at first.
She looks different, somehow.

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 11:17

I think things like the make-up, hair and dresses are part of what makes this kind of glossy miniseries fun to watch. They've definitely used clothes and hair very carefully to enhance and reinforce all the sisters' characters - and I loved the "is he gay" fiance's look, and the outfits for Nicola's boss, and her mum too. I love all that stuff.
