Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

May be I shoulod go back and watch the rest of episode 1 then. I htink Meera Syal was in the same year as I was at university actually and we sang in the same choir although we have not kept in touch. It is good to see both of us from the same year at Manchester still working and still I tihnk in our university subject - she read english drama and I did law and am a lawyer.

I thought it was nice to see a lot of women lawyers including senior ones for a change although why not practising oil and gas law rather than family law? There is definitely not that walking in and out of a different firm's offices like you in the film in real life. You can't just walk in and people are careful about who sees documents.

SofieMonde · 27/04/2018 09:05

It is a bit Dallasesque

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 09:51

I didnt think that rival law companies could just go in and out of each other offices as wouldnt it be a 'conflict of interest' ? I havnet had much to do with lawyers though apart from buying a few properties and thats all changed over the years i suppose.

Boswellox · 27/04/2018 20:47

I watched the first episode and was distracted by incongruous casting and story lines. But will watch again because at least it isn't detective led.

soimpressed · 27/04/2018 20:51

I really wanted to like this too because I'm a fan of Nicola Walker but I found it hard to like the characters and it seemed unrealistic.

craigglen · 27/04/2018 21:22

I really enjoyed it. Loved the clothes, lifestyle etc and I thought the story was interesting enough. Not too demanding, but worth watching - so far!

EachandEveryone · 28/04/2018 19:37

I thought it was great and im looking forward to it unfolding. Im shallow and loved the outgits and the property porn.

Maggie O'Neil the OW was in a mucky program years ago that my mother sent us to bed for so she could watch it. I recall Keith Barron been a taxi driver. Am i right?

southeastdweller · 28/04/2018 19:47

Yep, I used to love that series - Take Me Home, it was called. I still vividly remember the sex scene in the back of the taxi.

EachandEveryone · 28/04/2018 19:51

Well I don’t know why I wasn’t allowed to watch it MON is only five years older than me!!! Mind you it would’ve been embarrassing infront if my mother.

LanaorAna2 · 28/04/2018 19:59

I wish there was more silliness - clothes and shoes - and more seriousness - longer scenes. Less of the middle of the road tension and lumbering obviousness.

Peachyking000 · 29/04/2018 11:05

I liked it, but I think it’ll take a couple of episodes to get into it. I found it hard to warm to Nicola Walker’s character

GnotherGnu · 30/04/2018 22:42

I didn't have a problem sorting out which character was which, and I like seeing Nicola Walker in a part that is a bit different from her usual slightly downtrodden messy type. The mother reminds me horribly of a woman boss I once had who used to terrorise everyone - she's still working at well past 70 and the other partners are dying to find a way to persuade her to retire.

I do hope, however, that it isn't going to go down the Judge John Deed path where the two firms are constantly turning up on opposite sides in the same case, as if there are no other specialist family lawyers in the whole of London.

GnotherGnu · 01/05/2018 08:07

Does anyone know what was going on with Hannah's skirt and why Stephen Tompkinson offered to pay the dry cleaning bill? I even reran iPlayer thinking I'd missed her spilling something or something being thrown at her, but I couldn't see anything.

Dulra · 01/05/2018 08:19

GnotherGnu In the Board room scene when he revealed to his wife he was seeking a divorce he jumped up at one stage and his coffee spilt across the table towards NW I assume some must have spilt off the table on to her skirt

GnotherGnu · 01/05/2018 14:25

Thanks, Dulra, I knew someone here would know the answer! When I was looking through the replay I concentrated on Hannah's mug, which stayed upright.

The80sweregreat · 01/05/2018 17:13

NW always plays oddball hard to like characters - she was the same in Spooks apparently ( i didnt watch it, but others said she was good) and the same in Last Tango in Halifax where she had murdered her husband ( off screen, years ago and had several men chasing after her as well!) shes very good i think.

The coffee went a bit on her skirt but not much. if it was me i would have a coffee stain on there all day and in my hair ( probably)

LARLARLAND · 01/05/2018 21:14

Couldn't read any of those phone messages.

This tv show is so disappointing. I don't understand why you would entertain your dad wandering back into your life after running off with the nanny 30 years ago.

Too many wtfs to mention. Angry

Clawdy · 01/05/2018 22:14

It's beginning to remind me of one of Joanna Trollope's later novels. But it's more confusing.....Confused

FawnDrench · 01/05/2018 22:29

Does that Christie chap EVER take off his bloody suit fgs?
As if you'd "swing round" to Nina's at late o clock still in your work clobber.

(See how I got in the Switch special lingo there...)

Dozer · 01/05/2018 22:29

I enjoyed it again.

And excellent workwear!

Dozer · 01/05/2018 22:30

Hannah was very arrogant and presumptuous towards Hottenbutt.

CountFosco · 01/05/2018 22:37

I liked this episode more than the first one. Her kitchen/dining room/sitting room does not make sense to me though, they appear to live in a big house so why do we only see them in the single living space and their bedroom? Surely they'd have a couple of sitting rooms or something? Then the 16 year old wouldn't have to entertain her boyfriend in her attic room (currently rethinking my plan to let DD1 have the au pair's room when we no longer need an au pair!). Or am I just being northern?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 02/05/2018 00:01

I will continue to watch it for the property porn alone! There is a lot of love on here for Nicola Walker and I really thought she was good in unforgotten but I have to agree with Bluesky upthread that she does have a very stylised delivery in everything she is in, when she talks it’s as if she can’t get the words out, you know she is going to say something but the words don’t leave her mouth when you expect them to, it’s hard to explain but once you notice it you can’t un-notice it!

Slartybartfast · 02/05/2018 05:40

I thought her delivery was an affect, or maybe she can't help it, but yes she always seems to do it. does anyone else talk like this?
its a bit of a flop, compared to Unforgotten, and her mother is annoying.
