Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 11:18

Its her hair thats different. i last saw her in ' last Tango in halifax ' and her hair was brown/ mousey colour. She has the biggest eyes l've ever seen.

AllTheFancyThings · 25/04/2018 11:18

Very silly, clunky storyline and ridiculous dialogue. But I will watch again, as I like some of the actors and its nice to have a female-oriented drama on TV.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 11:19

The mum reminded me a bit of the main woman in ' the devil wears prada' - very scary.

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 11:20

Not a fan of Nicola Walker - she always plays herself

I don't think she's playing the same person here as she did in Spooks. Totally different character, body language, and looked about 15 years older! She's maybe an acquired taste though.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 11:20

Not all women are like this though - i obviously move in very boring circles! lol.

MissEliza · 25/04/2018 12:02

Nicola Walker always plays herself? Didn't she play a bit of a psycho in Scott and Bailey? I'm sure that was her. I was scared of her!

Jayne35 · 25/04/2018 13:04

It was ok but I agree that Anthony Head looks too young to be Nicola Walkers father (and actually their real ages agree as the age gap is only 15 years).

I will watch the next one - I don't like to give up on things until I have given them a proper chance.

louise5754 · 25/04/2018 13:40

I was just going to start a thread on this but thought I'd check if there was one already.

I don't like the Mum or sister as yet. I have a younger sister but I'd hate to have once like her.
She seems very flirty and immature.

I too thought her dad was an ex partner. How would they recognise each other after 30 years? They weren't exactly stood close by facing eachother.

I'm disappointed that something did/is/will go on between her and the blonde (is it her boss?) I wish we could watch a programme where colleagues don't get involved romantically. It's so cliche. Then the sister kissed the comedian? I think anyway I'm sure it was him?

I'll give it another go.

mirage937 · 25/04/2018 14:05

I think Nicola Walker plays complex characters well especially in Scott and Bailey and LTIH but not too sure about this.
Im not sure on ages but there must be a big age gap between the sisters, the youngest looked more like the same age as NW dd. I wasn't really following at the end which lawyer is representing Stephen Tompkinson and what does is wife want NW to do ? Hopefully it gets better as it goes along not like the Kay Mellor recent dramas i had high hopes about but just got worse and more bizarre

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 14:07

Its a bit like a cross between Dynasty and an upmarket Kay Mellor drama! I did zone out at the end so i missed the sister with the comedian. The lady with Stephen Tompkinson needs some MN advice.
would have been nice to have been set somewhere else rather than london as well.

ValleyClouds · 25/04/2018 14:09

I too had problems reading the texts

Why did Inevitable Workplace Affair want her sisters number?

Like others the really good bit was the Syal/Tompkinson split and I took to Nicola Walkers character for her reaction to him. Her mother wants the name clients, but she wants the right clients. Likewise her mum probably took the comedian as high profile who cares about his poor wife hey? (Shades of Manford split I thought)

Was worried it would be another Dr Foster which I found very overhyped, but I'll definitely be sticking with.

Stephen Mangan though! Glad it's only a small part here as yet. Dire in everything I've seen him in

Didn't complete the first episode of Episodes and gave him a second chance with Bliss. Nope. Lasted about 20 mins of that too. Cannot act to save himself, even expositionary lines or something as simple as "Hello Darling" sounds unnatural and cringe what's that all about? How does he get booked?

Good job I didn't know he was in it or I mightn't have started watching.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 14:16

The BBC are trying to out do Netflix with these dramas i think -

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 14:50

OK first Stephen Tompkinson came to NW's new firm to spring his divorce plans on Meera and use them as his lawyers.

NW felt for his wife so found her in the toilets and told her to get herself a shit hot, caring female lawyer.

Then Tompkinson changed his mind about using NW's firm (perhaps as she'd looked at him in such horror) and went to NW's old firm, her mum's hi-profile family law business.

Meera Syal came back and asked NW to be her shit hot caring female lawyer. So now it's swapped around and NW will represent the wronged wife, and her mum/sister's firm will represent wealthy cheating bastard. Scene set for high stakes court drama.

Dutch bloke isn't her boss, black bloke with the metrosexual suits is her boss.

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 14:51

(I think!)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/04/2018 15:12

"Christie Carmichael" isn't a very Dutch name.
He should be Nils van Hottenbutt

eloisesparkle · 25/04/2018 15:16

My theory re having Anthony Head in the series is that he is good looking ( and a good actor) and will appeal very much to some of the demographic---- watching.
To hell with the fact that he is only 15 years older in real life than his daughter in the series.
Just suspend your disbelief. Smile
It's so far much better than the Kay Mellor Girlfriends that I started to watch last week.

Clawdy · 25/04/2018 15:16

Hannah's dad : "You look just like your mother!" Er, no, there is no resemblance whatsoever.

LARLARLAND · 25/04/2018 15:17

What are the chances there'll be no winner in the outcome of the Stephen Tompkinson/Meerya Syal divorce?

OP posts:
eddiemairswife · 25/04/2018 15:25

I quite enjoyed it, but will re-watch before next week, to get everything a bit clearer.
I'm not keen on Kay Mellor. Her daughter used to be cast in her dramas at one time.
Her daughter was Judy, married to Gary in Corrie. She collapsed while hanging out the washing. Don't know what happened after, but Gary turned up as a policeman in some other drama.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 15:32

I think that Meerya character will win a lot more now she has Hannah on board. it will be revenge on her own dad for walking out on them.
then she will discover it was her mum that wasn;'t playing fair and denied access/ blamed him etc etc. Ponders her role as ' hot shot lawyer with a heart of gold really' and go off with hot bloke and ditch stephen mangan, because i think you would be tempted in real life.

she looks nothing like her scary mum at all, but its the sort of thing people say.

ValleyClouds · 25/04/2018 15:32

Yes Eddie!

That used to majorly piss me off also Gaynor Faye, bloody crap, and there she is again, oooo who wrote this? What a coincidence! Hmm

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 15:35

Nepotism is everywhere - our place has it going on - my old job in the 80s and 90s was rife, my dh's place of work has it happening all the time. its okay if your face fits and you know the right people in life.

showbiz is the same, look hard enough and you'll see the ' connections'! lol.

Dozer · 25/04/2018 16:15

Oh bloody hell it’s not a kay mellor is it? That doesn’t bode well.

Dozer · 25/04/2018 16:17

I do see women in heels like that in central London, most days. I don’t know many who would have their own office with space to store going out clothes! Am obviously in the wrong occupation!

ValleyClouds · 25/04/2018 16:24

No Dozer it's Abi Morgan who has solid credentials

The new Kay Mellor is on ITV
