Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:
Dozer · 25/04/2018 17:14

Thanks, and phew!

elastamum · 25/04/2018 17:31

They lost me when she left the house in those heels. No one in their right mind walks to work like that. All a bit clichéd

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 17:32

I never wear heels and work at home so that was lost on me!

Cagliostro · 25/04/2018 17:33

I’m excited to see this as the cast looks fab. Bit nervous now seeing the thread but will watch on catch up

lazymum99 · 25/04/2018 17:36

Was it the comedian who Hannah's sister was kissing at the end. Isnt she representing him. Not very ethical!
Anthony Head was interviewed recently and said he was 67 and would be playing a 70 year old.
If none of them have seen their father for 30 years then the youngest 2 are 37 and 32. NW must be early 40s. Which makes father daughter fine.
I saw Steven Mangan on stage at one of the small theatres at the National and he was really good. Bit boring in this.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 17:54

I wish heels to the bottom of the ocean. A man must have invented them.
I cannot wear and I wished I could

grinandtonics · 25/04/2018 18:44

I loved it but I also spent the whole episode thanking my lucky stars not to live there , work there or have to mix with those awful people!

Loved Hannah though!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/04/2018 18:47

What are the chances there'll be no winner in the outcome of the Stephen Tompkinson/Meerya Syal divorce

The lawyers always win!

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 18:48

They were all horrible. Pretty much like real life!

CountFosco · 25/04/2018 19:04

I quite liked it. Not as much as The Hour though. Or The Good Wife / The Good Fight (which I watched immediately after). Not showing the expected class yet.

I got annoyed about her not yet happening affair though, why would a woman who has a husband who does his share of childcare (he did the school run in the morning) and has a good career and loves her look elsewhere? Makes no sense to me.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/04/2018 19:16

Wanted to like it, found it a bit hard work....got quite distracted by sister lawyer's fab hoop and pointy arrow earrings. Anybody know where these came from?! Nils van Hottenbutt Grin @BreakfastAtSquiffanys.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 19:20

Her love interest was nice though. You can tell she’s tempted. In real life it would be the office creep hanging around and she would not be looking twice. but that wouldn’t make a drama of course. Maybe she will turn him down? Do the right thing?

CaptainCardamom · 25/04/2018 19:28

I think the idea is that NW is encouraging Hottenbutt to pursue her sister as a way of helping herself to resist him.

Mangan hubby was seen being flirty with her sister and others and she was rolling her eyes. I also noticed the bit where she said she'd agreed to use his surname because he'd "worn her down". I got the impression she's kind of fed up with him in various ways though also still loves him.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/04/2018 19:38

NW is definitely watching her husband and sister Nina.
Getting Nina and Hottenbutt (thank you, my work here is done) together would remove him from tempting Hannah and remove Sister from tempting Stephen Mangan (can't recall character name)

Dozer · 25/04/2018 19:39

Hottenbutt was the one to ask for the sister’s number, presumably partly to make spookslady jealous.

Her H was indeed doing childcare, AND dealing with his tricky in laws, all while having good hair, but loses points for flirting with his SIL.

TonTonMacoute · 25/04/2018 20:20

Did anybody else gasp when she circled the cost of the boob job on the bank statement

Yes, us! Watched with DS (19), and he audibly gasped!

I quite enjoyed it, but it is sheer fluff so far. Agree with PPs about the heels. Why on earth do women wear them Shock? Mind you, I live in Cornwall, so you wouldn’t get further than 50m without sinking into the mud.

FawnDrench · 25/04/2018 20:28

I think something happened between NW and Hotty on the night before her wedding - she shut him up quickly when he mentioned that occasion and then looked sort of wistfully embarrassed.

Why was the long-absent father walking in that Square? Is he a lawyer too?

southeastdweller · 25/04/2018 20:35

Anthony Head is 64, not 67, and is so well-preserved that he could pass for mid 50's. It's just shit casting.

Hopefully there'll be a twist about his characters backstory. Even something not that exciting like the wife found out he's gay or bi would be better than the boring reason of her kicking him out because he couldn't cope with being a father.

Nellyphants · 25/04/2018 20:44

Did anybody think the working day as protrayed was unrealistic? Lots of coffee, chatting & fancy lunch?

bophopandstop · 25/04/2018 20:49

I liked it! Cheesy but good. I thought you could feel the chemistry between her and the danish guy which was nice.

Dozer · 25/04/2018 20:53

Yeah, they don’t seem to do much work for the fat cat salaries ans fancy long lunches!

Anthony Head may be too young to play the dad, but far, far more women actors are cast in roles too old for them than men, eg keely hawes in the durrells, jennifer lawrence in joy. It’s typical in hollywood and on tv, and sexist. So is a change for it to be a man!

Jux · 25/04/2018 22:07

I worked for a barrister in central London for a while. His work day could be like that, sometimes. Mostly he just worked though, sometimes in Court, sometimes as a Judge, sometimes he arbitrated. Most of the time he spent in the office, reading lots of documents, occasionally writing up a Judgement.

So I was OK believing their day was like that, and assumed most of their days were just humdrum.

MissEliza · 25/04/2018 22:08

I'm no divorce lawyer but I couldn't quite understand why the wife of the comedian was using access to the son as leverage in the bargaining. It's not up to the mother to 'grant' it. (Certainly not when any of my friends got divorced anyway)

YippeeTipTap · 25/04/2018 22:57

I wondered what ‘helpful’ advice Mumsnet would have offered to the wife of the comedian had she posted on AIBU.

MissEliza · 25/04/2018 23:50

What do you mean Yippee?
