I’ve just heard that this will start in the US at the end of this month but Channel 4 haven’t said when they’ll start showing it yet.

again pp mentioned the lack of men in this and it's women being mean to women, the men in it are are portrayed as good eggs

Yes I thought that too. It happens in lots of shows and it's as if women are the evil instigators rather than the structures existing to serve men.

theredjellybean · 27/05/2018 22:26

Not just enraged by the hoover advert but the activia advert onky showed female abdomen, and the oak land ad showed to male sales men and all bar one of the people seen using the furniture, putting away clothes etc were women
I have never noticed before

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2018 22:29

CruCru I think most of the leaders in Gilead live in New England, so I imagine the colonies would be either in the Midwest or in the South.

Crinkle77 · 27/05/2018 22:30

Emily actually did the wife a favour by actually allowing her to die quickly instead of a slow agonising death from radiation poisoning.

boatyardblues · 27/05/2018 22:31

The guy who dropped her off said the building was disused even before the war. The first steps in authoritarian regime - demonise the press.

Sound familiar?

Not keen on the sex scene either but dies that mean Nick will be found out because of the bite mark on his neck?

I thought that - hard to explain.

kalapattar · 27/05/2018 22:32

I have never noticed before

Once you notice, it's hard to unnotice.

theredjellybean · 27/05/2018 22:35

Kalapatter... Absolutely, my dp also commented on activia ad, saying 'don't men get gut issues'... As a doctor I don't actually agree with the peddling of stuff like activia, our guts work fine without this kinda of thing but yes it is mainly women I see in clinic who buy into this marketing.

theredjellybean · 27/05/2018 22:36

So I can see why advertising is aimed at the demographic that buy it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 22:36

They looked like tar sands I think, so Utah?

CruCru · 27/05/2018 22:39

Much as I like the Handmaid’s Tale, I hope this series is the last one. It would be a shame if it becomes a never ending show and gets annoying as a result.

Two things struck me this week - the wife being banished shows that even though the women are the ones enacting violence they're not the ones in power. The other was the border. The realism of that was just so much.

I was confused though because I'm sure Emily said in series 1 her wife was killed?

CurbsideProphet · 27/05/2018 22:43

I agree Cru I need a conclusion, not series after series taking us away from the original premise.

kalapattar · 27/05/2018 22:43

I'm wondering how you sell advertising during the Handmaid's Tale?

The audience is pretty obvious - but the series and its themes are going to massively impact the messages that the adverts are trying to give. A bit of a contrast.

boatyardblues · 27/05/2018 22:45

I’m disappointed they had June turn to God. Very disappointed.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2018 22:49

I think it's unlikely that June would start praying in that way after the damage that has been done to her and those she loves in God's name.

Having the memorial and lighting the candles would have been just as effective without bringing religion into it.

Aridane · 27/05/2018 22:50

cru - I think a series 3 is intended

Moonkissedlegs · 27/05/2018 22:52

It's really bugging me what the actress playing Emily's wife has been in before?!

Flaskfan · 27/05/2018 22:55

As an aside, I think women buy into the gut issues because of our hormonal bloating. Dh never, ever bloats. I do. Judging by the cycle it follows, I'm guessing hormones and weirdly, it's better now I'm off the pill: 5 days instead of 2 weeks.

Namechanger2015 · 27/05/2018 22:56

Me too! I am thinking perhaps a teenage series at some point? She looks SO familiar.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2018 22:56

She played Rory in Gilmore Girls

Moonkissedlegs · 27/05/2018 22:57

I googled it and she was in a few 90s things and the film Argo. But I think the film I actually know her from is.... The faculty!

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2018 22:57

Sorry, I thought you meant the actress playing Emily. Not sure about her wife.

IndominusRex · 27/05/2018 23:00

She's in veep if you watch that

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/05/2018 23:07

She's Clea Duvall, Robert Duvalls daughter and is in loads of things.

I keep thinking that if you work at the Boston Globe how much that episode would shit you up.

Haudyerwheesht · 27/05/2018 23:07

Emily’s wife
